President George W Bush backs Israeli plan for strike on Iran

Despite the opposition of his own generals and widespread scepticism that America is ready to risk the military, political and economic consequences of an airborne strike on Iran, the president has given an “amber light” to an Israeli plan to attack Iran’s main nuclear sites with long-range bombing sorties, the official told The Sunday Times.
“Amber means get on with your preparations, stand by for immediate attack and tell us when you’re ready,” the official said. But the Israelis have also been told that they can expect no help from American forces and will not be able to use US military bases in Iraq for logistical support.
Nor is it certain that Bush’s amber light would ever turn to green without irrefutable evidence of lethal Iranian hostility. Tehran’s test launches of medium-range ballistic missiles last week were seen in Washington as provocative and poorly judged, but both the Pentagon and the CIA concluded that they did not represent an immediate threat of attack against Israeli or US targets.

Why do many of our leaders have dual citizenship with Israel?
Why is Israel the only country americans ARE ALLOWED to have dual citizenship with?
How is their dual citizenship even legal or tolerated by the rest of us?
If you work in the highest positions in our country's government, you should be a citizen of the U.S. and the U.S. only.
This is why.

Let's get all the countries that have nuclear weapons and pit them against each other so that each side has an equal array of warheads. Then, when everyone is screaming so loudly at each other that no one can hear anything, we'll push that infamous red button and laugh as the whole world goes up in a fiery ball of radiant flames. Then Keith Richards, McCain, and the cockroaches can have the run of the place. Fucking politics...

They say history repeats itself and what we are going to witness is the fall of the "great" U.S. of A. Like the romans , egyptians, greeks and so forth every empire halts at an end of greed, corruption and over empowerment. In the history of nuclear weapons the US has been the only Country to use the technology for war. Not only was the use of the two nuclear bombs illegal by all standards but it was targeted at the wrong targets. To implement peace and democracy to the world one (and by one i mean the US) has to be the role model in very positive angle. To look back at history and point out its achievements through diplomacy and not war. America was built on great ideals but brought together by force and corruption.
An attack on Iran would be the start of WWIII. I personally wouldn't want this to happen because it would mean that North Korea would have the right to back Iran and we all know that they very capable of launching nuclear bombs towards any US city. But they would not target just any city but would target cities like Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Chicago and major metropilitan cities where millions of people live. We will have to wait any see and pray that such action does not take place. - 3 years ago

If Iran is not a threat to Israel, they sure as hell aren't a treat to us... if their missiles can't reach us maybe we should just, I don't know... get the hell out of their country? Funny that they aren't a threat, but they have a boatload of oil.... and we have a boatload of guns and no oil (well there's that offshore stuff, but China will empty that out for us soon)..... I wonder why we're ready to attack at a moment's notice... we're just protection our poor, defenseless allies right?
Oh and P.S., we don't need a draft, obviously. We're damn good at brainwashing young (and old) American men and women.

Be afraid-be very afraid. Our madmen & woman leadership has led us down the warpath for far too long. War begets war & peace begets peace. The sooner we pick up the trail to Peace, the sooner the world & especially our country, can breathe a sigh of relief & get on with the long overdue business or gluing the infrastructure of our country back together & taking care of Americans-especially the overlooked & disenfranchised ones suffering from natural & manmade disasters. The last 8 years of complete insanity has gone on for far too long & needs to be stopped ASAP. Let the other countries take care of themselves-Americans have suffered for far too long now. Perhaps if liberals/ progressives would put as much effort into getting the iranian people to understand that their chest thumping chimp of a leader is going to get them ALL killed b/c of his suicidal tendencies the middle east would be a better place. It's tough to fight the enemy abroad when the enemy at home is their biggest cheerleader/ enabler.
Mandatory military service WOULD do the US a world of good.

When will the world stand up and make a fuss about the fact that the Bush administration has never needed a justification for war. Even Barack Obama is against Iran having nukes and has said publicly that we should never allow Iran to have nukes. Israel attacked Iraq when they were developing nukes and I am sure Israel will attack Iran for the exact same reason. I think that Senator McCain said it best, "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran.". I would like to know if it is worth it to Iran to develop its nuclear weapon program If the regime in Iran wants a fight, they sure are on the right path to getting one. I wonder if regime change will happen in 2008 or 2009?

Let me start off by stating I LOVE the United States of America. The people in power are ruthless devils in disguise. Long story short America is embarassing itself by socuming to anything Israel puts in their ears. As a nation we must say enough is enough, if Israel wants to attack Iran then go right ahead and start another bloody war. The problem is when these bloks ask for help from their bully on the pay roll [United States].
Leave our country alone you maggots. Israel only wishes to expand their agenda, as Americans we must realize this and deny them our help. They [Israel] continues to use American troops to do their dirty work. Piss off and leave this beautiful country alone. God bless America

Damn the nationalistic stereotyping and indoctrination all to hell. The tragic part is all sides are wrong in one another's eyes just because they've been taught/told different things depending on where they happened to be born or "educated".
What a bunch of crap.
At least in America we have freedom from religion if not freedom to disagree with those calling the shots. The American government reminds me a lot of the company I work for in that there are probably much better ways to go about things, but they just don't happen because of the chain of command.
Be lucky you happen to be born into the country with the biggest stick. I bet if more people actually stopped for a second to put themselves in the other person's shoes, the world would be a much better place.
I guess it comes down to where the truth lies. Since you can't even get a clear answer from one friggin news channel to the next, that makes it very difficult to whole heartedly believe anything you hear either way these days.
Since moving to LA from Texas where I grew up, I've had several friends from all over the world, including Israel, Lebanon, and Iran. It completely sucks because the people I know are all good people who have all been considerably affected by the nonsense in the Middle East in extremely negative ways despite having absolutely NOTHING to do with it.
Ironically, they do all seem to say the majority of the people in the Middle East are never going to stop fighting though because they've been so indoctrinated by religion etc. and then galvanized by traumatic experiences on both sides.
Eh, go figure.
But while we're speaking of supporting bombing of other countries...
My question is: Why do things half assed?
If their government is truly a "threat" or a problem and is much weaker than us, just take the damn thing over and start teaching the younger generations a new perspective on life. So you destroy their nuclear facilities, then what? Gee, I wonder if that will just cause more problems on an international scale.
The Israel vs. Iran thing does seem like nothing more than a token excuse to start WW3, and frankly I'm already pissed off my future is going to have to endure the upcoming hardships of the economy etc. without another friggin (proxy) war thrown in the mix.
Our society reports war right next to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton...it really makes you wonder doesn't it?
I digress.

For the last week I have watched the 'talking heads' speak of Iran with casual acknowledgement of pending 'war with Iran'! I watched Chris Matthews interviewing Tom Delay. Tom Delay spoke of War with Iran and stated we should have already bombed them? Chris Matthews had no follow up? He just let him make the statements and did no follow up. SAD! SAD! SAD!
The same 'talking heads' that let them spin us into 'War with Iraq', are doing it again. They are misleading America, by not countering talking points which lead people to believe war with Iran is unavoidable. Chris Matthews should be ashamed!
Where are our members of Congress? Why are they not stopping this maddness? Who is going to ride in and stop the maddness? Are there no American Hero's left?

'Hope' in America is constantly 'kicked down the road' to the next election. Tomorrow! It's never 'tomorrow', it's always 'today'. They won't do anyting today, which they can put off till tomorrow. No one wants to take responsibility. SAD! SAD! SAD!

I'm not real convinced that Obama (or McCain) wouldn't back an Israeli strike on Iran either. Sure, he's promoting more diplomacy with the Iranians (which is definitely a good thing.) But, even if Israel launches missiles against Iran, Obama is still going to go ahead with the $30 billion in aid that he's promised Israel. And then there is that speech he gave at the AIPAC meeting.

Personal attacks would be taking a personal experience or a personality trait not substantiated by fact and injecting it into a conversation for the sake of belittling someone or distracting from the point being made by throwing in opinions not supported by facts.

Clay, I agree that citizens should be required to serve two years of civil service, military would be an option. IMO this would have prevented widespread ignorance after 2001 and the subsequent Iraq war. Military spending would be much lower (less war = less spending) because we wouldn't be buying mercenaries (volunteer army) who will kill/do anything to get a pat on the head. Essentially it would lower the "pussyfication" through service and lower the absurdity of executive action through necessary activism. Possibly yielding more money to educating future generations, so that we won't repeat the b.s. of post-nam apathy.

There's no reason to work so hard to make your country better when you have no say in what happens to it or even yourself on a day to day basis. We need to get together and fix this country.... and stop destroying ourselves and others.

I've just seen from experience that Germans and Swedish who are encouraged or required to do civil service are more aware of their country and it's policies because this time forms bonds. I feel as though I began college as a child and was pressured to "go for that fat paycheck". Civil Service would have given me more money for education and a stronger connection with my country and community.

Easy to hide behind a sheild of anonymity, tell us all about your military history. Tell us how you suffered in middle class suburbia. Tell us how you work hard behind a desk while the real men work out actually ON the rig. You are the very same person not willing to sacrifice a moment of your time, or energy to help anyone but yourself. You are a disgrace to democracy. Your "we can't change" defeatist attitude is now an overwhelmingly unsupported cause. Sit back ,shut up, and let the real Americans lead this nation. When you go to the polls in November make sure to look up the definition of Fascism so you don't get confused about what you really stand for. Your brand of hate and fear gives very telling insight into your personality. Do not respond to me , you obviously support treason and to me you are the enemy. Signed Robert Holley USMC 1985-1989

People being killed all over the world because of his policies, banks failig, people loosing homes by the millions, the dollar 1 cent from it lowest value in history the country in worse shape than in the depression the world hating us and all the boob in the Black House can think about is making war with Iran so hime and the Jews can get thier oil. I wonder what it feels like to be this much of a dumbass. This war mongering greedy killer belongs in prison and this congress does not even have the guts to throw him there probably because half of them belong there with him. What a statement for what used to be a peaceful prosperous country of hard working happy people. Just goes to show what one evil greedy killer can do in just 7 and 1/2 years. Ruin hundreds of years of progress in two stolen elections.

Right on Jubal, these people have not evolved enough to realize that killing and torturing are forms of undeveloped minds that use the theory if you can't understand or it does not look like you or act like you kill it. To bad evolution did not arrive to all people at the same time I just hope the unevolved will start to evolve more quickly so we can advance society before the ignorant stunt it more or kill it altogether.

You said it, my friend. That is the next step in evolution... realizing we don't have to kill and control each other. Unfortunately, our guns have gotten so big and numerous, and our system so big and corrupt it's hard to take that next step. The elite somehow manages to remain comprised of people who are a step behind. The masses continue to be content with being content and ignorant. Help me help them.

Bush doesn't want Israel to use American bases, because if Israel does attack Iran, he can weasel out of responsibility; at least in the MSM.
Sometimes I get the feeling that there are people on this thread that want to see WWIII or WWIV; endless war, and war and war and war.
Make love not war. Pacifism is Jesus's way.

With all due respect to Daniel Pearl. If I did what he did, I would expect to be killed too. Meeting up with terrorist that you meet online does not sound like a person who would like to live very much longer. Very irresponsible way for a husband to behave. The people who murdered him were bad and 100% wrong for doing so. If you look for trouble, Like Daniel Pearl did, you will find it.
