Is it or isn't it impeachment the judiciary committee hears arguments

Image
CaptSutter
A congressional committee has heard testimony about the case for impeachment of President Bush. VOA's Dan Robinson reports, while majority Democrats have ruled out formal impeachment efforts, they approved the public hearing to examine limitations on presidential powers and arguments about what constitute impeachable offenses.

Critics say President Bush and Vice President Cheney should be impeached because of a range of alleged legal and constitutional abuses.

The list includes administration justifications to Congress and Americans for the war in Iraq, authorization of secret electronic surveillance, approval of harsh interrogation techniques, and defiance of congressional subpoenas.

    • It's no wonder that Congress' ratings are at 9%. In the past 8 years the other side of the aisle (libs) have been more interested in "getting" Bush than doing their jobs. This is just retribution for Clinton.

Since Pelosi we have had record oil and gas prices, a housing meltdown, foreclosures and arguably a recession, investigations on steroids in baseball and threatening to nationalize or tax companies making 8.5% net income. This congress is a joke. What happened to Social Security reform (tried by Bush in his first term but torpedoed by lies) just to name one issue?

The Democrats would rather see this country in a depression or mass disaster if they can blame it on Republicans than to see a Bush, Republican or conservative prolicy succeed. Now we are looking at Comrade Obama as a good possibliity for the next four years. Disaster.

Impeach them all on the Hill. Impose term limits. Ron Paul for president.

The democrats helped pass FISA, do you think they'll be angry with Bush for violating the 4th amendment when they were just as quick to do the same?

      America is fucked.

    • I'm so sick of all this people saying it's too late to do this. Even if he gets impeached in december, it will still show the world that we think he was a terrible leader and that most of us weren't in board with his policies in the first place. A symbolic slap in the face at least.

    • Wow! Thanks Vierotchka, I am house-sitting, and was able to watch c-span yesterday [on tv]. Otherwise, at my own home I don't ever watch tv. However, with this recent up-surge of interesting (debates) in congress, I was thinking; maybe I should pull the tv back out, at my home, and dust off the cable box, so I could watch c-span. Now thanks to this, I don't have to do that! wonderful!

I can also review some the video. Great!

    • That's exactly the reason for these hearings is to provide solid facts and provable evidence of the crimes commited.

Not just partisan slander or the kind of bias that has run rampant in the last decades.

Remember that the hearing that led up to Nixon's resignation started off the same way.

It's not about any party, it's about restoring the system of checks and balances that has damaged the way the goverment was designed to function.

Any future administration should not be allowed to have the unchecked authority to ignore the laws and regulations with impunity.

You know that oil will not last forever right?

You should stop using the word "dummycrats"
It marginalizes any argument(if you want to call what you do arguing) you try to make.

I agree, your agruments are not substantial at all and your choice of wording makes you look like a 12 year old. Good for you though.

Oh, and Bush lifting the drilling ban has done absolutely nothing and will do nothing for at least ten years, and by the way, gas prices have risen how much since Bush came into office?

tory you dont know anything about oil. My entire family has been in the oil for 100 years. WE could have a rig up and almost to full capacity in about 3 1/2 years in the gulf. The dems made up that number so they wouldnt have to vote on it. There liars plain and simple.

      Hey BOOBOO,

Your intelligence regarding this issue is marginal as most conservatives are.

Any education past the high school level?

If so you might have learn about what financial doctrines are healthy for a democracy?

A strong democracy thrives with competition! Monopolies are a death sentence for a democracy!
Hence our current situation with the economy!
Monolpolies with energy and other industries are killing us!

What party has advocated sustainable energy and progressive science for years? To no avail because of the other party’s partisan politics with the energy culture.

What party advocates drilling for more oil, even though countless experts all agree we cant drill our way out of the current problem! Also what party advocates more centralized type of energies coal and nuclear? Energies that can and will be monopolized!

Ill give you a tip BOO BOO – the answer to the second question, its the party that has two oilmen in the Whitehouse that is tied to the oil industry.

And you know what, your one of their advocates that has no clue what so ever on how economics work.

BOOBOO please give me your attention,
you really think big oil wants to spend billions of dollars to drill and find more oil only to lower the price for people like us, your crazed!

BooBoo your name is perfect! I need say no more.

I would say that most conservatives have more education than you give credit for. Conservatives create huge companies that flourish liberals destroy things like the school system the welfare system etc. Im sure 90% of the people who run the fortune 500 companies are conservatives, and not some hackie sack hemp sandal wearing queers.

T.boone pickens, clayjj, and myself are the only ones that have a grasp on reality...the rest of you are pissing up a rope...All economist agree that the short term solution is to drill domestically...everything else is 10-20 years away. The price per barrel went down $12 since President Bush lifted the ban on drilling! And if nazi pelosi would let it come to a vote even the dummycrats will vote for it!now you know why they're called dummucrats!
Check out the show on TRU-Tv...called "Black Gold" on wed. nights at 8pm est. Its about 3 drilling riggs competeing for oil in 55 days...the winner gets the contract!
We need to do everything ...wind, solar, bio, nuclear and drill domestically...and we need it now nazi pelosi!
dummycrats have no solutions... only one awnser to every problem, MORE TAXES...So quit your whinning!

      McCain 08

riiiiight.... price of gas since the "dummycrats" took over... like the senate can change the price of something that the president has been profiting off of since before his first election? how about the increase since we had a "repooplican" president? whats it, $2.50 a gallon? not that its specifically his fault, but anyone can use statistics for their own personal good... why not complain about things like the minimum wage not rising for over six years of bush's presidency. oh, wait, would that require a few extra cents out of our paychecks to make the quality of life for a large part of our citizens just trying to persue their happiness by starting at the bottom? hmmm

I watched the hearing. There is compelling evidence (like the fact that EVERY DAY laws are being broken) that this "president" has committed treason. I guess they won't take on the two "elections" that he stole. There is solid evidence on many counts and they showed it in the hearing. It was clear that most Democrats feel that impeachment is called for. Now, Pelosi has held her House Democrats at bay to where it appears to be too late. She is as bad as Bush is (no....no...no, she is not as bad as Bush...she was either blackmailed by Rove, threatened...who knows) but, she was complicit and will go down in history as stopping the impeachment of a "president" (who knew NOTHING of government, law, or ethics) who did fantastic DAMAGE to this country and to the world. I am a Democrat and I find Nancy Pelosi guilty of stopping justice from reaching both president and vice-.

Why must conservatives always call names?
