Sy Hersh: Cheney, Neocons considered killing US troops as pretext for Iran war

In an exclusive Think Progress story, we learn the meeting took place in Cheney’s office and the subject on the table was “how to create a casus belli between Tehran and Washington,” part of an ongoing effort to provide an excuse to attack Iran. “There was a dozen ideas proffered about how to trigger a war,” Hersh explains. “The one that interested me the most was why don’t we build — we in our shipyard — build four or five boats that look like Iranian PT boats. Put Navy seals on them with a lot of arms. And next time one of our boats goes to the Straits of Hormuz, start a shoot-up.”
According to Hersh, this meeting occurred after the neocons failed miserably to stage a rehashed version of the Gulf of Tonkin incident in the Strait of Hormuz, mostly because it is no longer 1964 and such Big Lies — thanks to the internet and bloggers — are far more difficult to float.

Truthfully it doesn't,t really matter to me if this is story is conspiracy or not. I wouldn't put anything past Cheney, or this current administration. Valid points have been raised and confirm suspicions that many of us have, and we need the opportunity to explore that and bring about true change. 'Reality' is one person's perception of this life and it is clear that there are forces at work that want to manipulate, confuse and divide the people of this country. All they care about is their own personal wealth, to our detriment. Let's keep the pressure on these criminals to the point that they can get away this shit anymore.

It's time we get beyond the wickedness of staging conflict in order to create more conflict...This archaic method of non-diplomatic policy is so yesteryear. Let's get our wits about us and stand up for the kind of innovative policies that will render the lies and deception obsolete.
Keep in mind that bush/cheney didn't actually win in either 2000 or 2004. They usurped the title, in both cases, due to more insidious behavior, which makes their incongruous policies all the more difficult to swallow...so, when they employ their unscrupulous behavior, they really have done so believing that they are untouchable and that they have nothing to lose by gambling on the deception... All the more reason why they, the entire cabal, should be held accountable...

Why don't we hear about stories like this from our main stream media sources? The current administration has gotten away with actions that would of landed other world leaders in world court for war crimes and no one is talking about it. Am I the only American who is scared of the precedent that will be set if the Bush administration leaves office in a few months without being held accountable?

Yet again, another bogus story from New Yorker magazine writer Sy Hersh. I would love to meet these "anonymous sources" he basis his made up articles on. He should just classify himself as a fiction writer and admit his sources are just figments of his imagination. I find it pathetic how so many gullible people eat up his garbage.

You don't think for a moment that he would want to protect these sources and that's why he can't reveal them? It's totally possible.
Reuters and AP reporters use "anonymous sources" in practically 80% of the articles they write and most of those articles are fiction.

It's called a "false flag attack".

Sadly, you vote for the government that you deserve.
You vote for the lesser of two evils, you still get evil. If you continue to surrender to the dictates of Democrat and Republican Party bosses and you don't vote for the candidate that you believe reflects YOUR beliefs and what YOU hold dear, then you deserve the candidate that you compromised to.
Congress is in recess right now. They're at home, trying to generate campaign money for their re-elections. You know where they are! If you're truly pissed off at what has been going on in your name, then rally your forces and MARCH to their offices. This is your chance to let them know as a group how you feel. Take it!
And when election day comes and you decide to either stay at home or to hold your nose and compromise your beliefs and compromise the things you hold dear by voting for either a Democrat or Republican, then you DESERVE everything that happens afterwards!

Early in the "war" on Iraq, Valerie Plame's CIA operation caught a vehicle trying to smuggle WMDs into Iraq from Turkey. This action prevented the neocons from planting them in Iraq and put an end to their efforts of doing so - once caught just one time, such an action will not be repeated. I suspect that this is the real reason for the Bush administration's outing of Valerie Plame - vengeance for her having spoiled their plans.

For all the evil genius that everyone claims this group has, you would have thought that they would have found WMD in Iraq whether they were there or not. Even if they had to plant them. You give them to much credit for conspiracies.

Nothing Happened in the Tonkin Gulf. Johnson planned and faked it. Pearl Harbor was known by FDR and contigency planned for. They all plan for different ways to accomplish a goal.
What would life be like if people did not consider all possiblities to get their way. Oh, I suppose we would all be Democrats , consider nothing, and just do it unplanned and take no responsibility and blame others for your failures.

My friend, you appear to be thinking in the Machiavellian philosophy, namely, "the ends justify the means," but I propose a different philosophy: "The means justify the ends." For example, is it better to cheat and get an A on a test or to study very hard and get a B on a test? The first person is the more accomplished person, but the second is the better person.

This guy has no creditability whatsoever, he can’t even sit up straight, he looks like he’s been on an all night binge and everything he says is hearsay with no backing. Why are you guys so eager to believe anyone who says anything negative about the Government, why are you giving this guy any credibility at all, is it what you want to hear? Therefore it must be true. Quit being so gullible, seeing a plot around every corner, conspiracy in every move, the victims of our terrible Government. As long as you folks keep making celebrity’s of anyone who has a conspiracy to perpetuate or an insider story that will surely get them on the news they will keep popping up.

Tgarius,
It is you who is gullible. Our present government is not your friend nor mine. Open your eyes and look back on the past 8 years and tell me the good things that have happened. This government rules by the power of fear , terror and bullying. There once was a time in history when that might have been necessary , maybe when Gengas Khan and the mongols ruled 3/4 of the eastern world by decapitating their foes and placing the heads on a stake for all to see, terrorizing the ones left to succumb. Well my friend thankfully we do not live in those times but I assure you they are similar in manner, we get to keep our heads but our minds and our youths minds are being royally F@#$!@ through the media and far stretched truths about what is really going on. Dig a little deeper and the truth will shock, appall and overwhelm you. - 3 years ago

We don't have any army for another war. Thank God for that fact anyway. Between Iraq and Afghanastan there are not enough troops now. How can we attack Iran(I detest any war)? Bush and Co and the Jews(which own refineries)are just jacking up oil prices. Iran dosen't mind either since it has the second largest oil reserves so it serves everyones greed to threaten Iran. And Iran won't back down and I don't blame them. "Do as I say not as I do" isn't working and it won't work unless you you lead by example. Us and the Jews want to have nukes but nobody else can have them. It's not working out that way, Iran is not Syria or Lebanon or Iraq, Iran is much more organized and stronger armed with a large army as well. Attacking Iran would be devastating to the middle east and other parts of the world as well. If Bush and Co. can't rebuild after Katrina, can't win in Iraq can't win in Afghanastan how the F____ is it going to win in Iran?(LOL)

I've said this before, but i'll say it again: Our government - or, at least those people who run this show - never wanted to win. We've been at war since 1945. Now, no, not all of those wars fought during that time were INTENTIONAL exercises on futility, but that is what they turned out to be. Methinks that our current admnistration learned how to successfully create an exercise on futility in a war situation from all the previous ones and so did the same thing in Iraq.
Why would they want to prolong war? For one, they profit off of it personally. That's the biggest factor. The other - and really it's a part of the first one - is that nations are different in times of war, and they're different in a way that allows the people calling the shots to profit off of the nation personally.
So, in that context, going to an un-winnable war with Iran actually looks like a pretty good idea to this administration.
