Toby Keith: Obama acts white to win

"What does that even mean?" the audibly shocked Beck replied.
"Well, I don't know what that means," Keith drawled, "but I think that that's what they would say. Even though the black society would pull for him I still think that they think in the back of their mind that the only reason he is in [the general election] is because he talks, acts and carries himself as a Caucasian."

Here's a tip Toby Keith and anyone else...if you aren't Black, stop trying to get the inside track on the Black perspective. It only makes you sound prejudice.

Well i think your mistaken if you think that white people haven't set the standards. Race is a delicate issue, but if you can't speak about it bluntly and honestly then you miss important issues. White men run this world mostly, and its an unfortunate, but true fact.

Of course a public official, someone trying to be elected as president of our country, is going to be a well spoken, educated man.
I come from a large, loud italian family, and when speaking publicly, or when trying to gain the respect of my audience, i am not going to speak the way I would around the dinner table. The whole "acting white" thing kind of has something to it though. Culturally speaking, black culture and white culture are very different. A professor of mine in college told me once about a young elementary school teacher who was having difficulty with disciplining her black students. The teacher was white, and would approach the black students with a soft tone, asking them to sit down, or stop talking, or whatever. my professor (a strong, black, insanely intelligent woman from georgia) told the teacher to take a different tone with the child, something firmer, and to command the child, and not ask. That would probably be what the child was used to growing up in a black home. So there are differences in the way black and white people communicate themselves.
I'm trying to convey a pretty complicated idea as quickly as possible, so i'm sorry if i offend, that's clearly not my intention.
Education has just begun to really spread to the black community in america (within the last 40 years or so). A lot of people are equating education with the way one presents themselves, but education shouldn't mean you give up your roots. Just because someone is educated doesn't mean they should have to change the way they are.
White people have set the standards in the world, and other cultures must conform to make it professionally.
This is a much more complex concept that i'm trying to get across, but my brain is misfiring.

not to harp on it , but for peeps like Keith , O. is hard to make out - O. doesn't fit into the whole "i like black people but i hate nigs " mentality , so it's easier to just say O. doesn't represent the kind of "blacks" peeps like Keith are usually inclined to like ( the approval of which more or less implies that you aren't really a racist redneck - because you're willing to publicly say you like "black people " ) , O. is running for president , so Keith can't deny the fact that O. can't really be a "nig" - so Keith says O. isn't really "black" , nor is O. a "nig" - which really doesn't say much about Keith beyond him being a f--ng backwards ass idiot .

Toby Keith-
Pandering red-neck three minute hero that knows three chords on a guitar! Wears incredibly ugly hats that probably cant even saddle his own horse or string his own guitar! Sang some racist fascist song in 2004 "about sticking some boot up some middle-easterners ass!” Ran the ford truck company into the ground with tacky awful truck commercials featuring Keith the hick with his gross stomach hanging out from under his shirt!
Oh that guy again! He just pops up every few years to squander diversity, democracy etc. only to sing for the neo-cons, war, monopolies and incredibly stupid short sighted people!

"Now, Keith has trained his sights on Barack Obama, attacking him in racially tinged language that startled even the notoriously reactionary radio jock Glenn Beck. During Keith's appearance on the July 30 broadcast of Beck's show, he remarked, "I think the black people would say he [Obama] don't talk, act or carry himself as a black person." "
Oh, yeah! Pop cultural Amerika's two foremost authorities on cultural diversity and contemporary ethnicity in America, the klansman Toby Keith and the Lebensborn Hitler jungen Glenn Beck. I suppose they know better than anyone what 'acting white' is.

In related news Toby Keith has just been hired by the McCain campaign in order to "red-up" McCain in order to win more rural voters.
Apparently it's working.
McCain has been seen blowing his nose into his t-shirt, engaging in lengthy rants on the stump about how the "Jews control government" and, most recently, responded to a complex question regarding steel tarrifs by screaming "Fuck you, ya faggot!" and then chanting "USA! USA! USA!" for ten minutes straight.
Will acting "red" swing the election decidedly in McCain's favor? It just might. In polls taken immediately after McCain's "red" stunts his approval rating in 15 states has just shot up 73 percent.
Campaign experts believe that if McCain actually beats an Iraqi or a homosexual to death live on camera (while chanting "USA! USA!" of course) he'll achieve an insurmountable lead over Obama.
"I done do really like that McCain feller," one, uh, rural Republican voter said. "He's tough on national security. And he keeps dem queers in their place too."

I accuse Toby Keith of being a proper gentleman, but ACTING like a tough-talkin' truck driving shit kickin' cousin humpin' redneck in a cynical ploy to sell records to rural Southerners suffering from generations of inbreeding.
Mr. Keith knows he would never be accepted into "red" society if he were seen using a napkin, drinking a latte or whiping his ass with anything other than his fingers.
He's just acting red!
Oh sure, Toby ACTS like he is a mildly retarded racists who "done don't nothing bout no fancy things like dem thar iPods and such." -- but it's just an act.
There used to be a YouTube video floating around (apparently taken without Mr. Keith's knowledge) clearly showing him drinking herbal tea, wearing a necktie, and updating his financial information on his computer in Excel using (I shit you not) a complex pivot table....while listening to NPR!
The video was taken down after Mr. Keith's team of lawyers threatened to sue YouTube.
Toby Keith is a phony who is just acting "red" in order to sell records!
Come out of the closet Mr. Keith.

If he means that Obama carries himself with class, respect, and intelligence, I'll take that as a compliment.
Unfortunately FAR TOO MANY people do not embody these traits independent of race, so therefore behavior can't be considered a "black" or "white" thing without bringing completely flawed racist stereotypes into the equation.
There are "wiggers" like K-Fed that I'm sure Toby Keith doesn't think too highly of, and there are plenty of classy black men whose behavior embodies respect and kindness.
I simply think he was trying to say Obama carries himself with much more country-type and/or respectful values than, I don't know, Ludacris?
Still, it came across wrong. Obama is acting like an excellent role model period and his race shouldn't be brought into it.

I know exactly what he means and I'm sure most of you do as well, you don't hear Obama throwing slang around, he is very careful to not speak in any way other then mainstream, he dresses the role as well, this is also alienating him from many Blacks so much so that you have people like Jesse Jackson wanting to cut his balls off because he talks down to Black people "his words". The other side is he is half white something the Black community or the media really don't want to talk about, personally I find it offensive that he denigrates his white ancestry and plays up the Black. I find it dishonest to a degree but I understand it totally, he wants to be the first.

Tgarius:
I think this statement is a bit off. I think B.Ob has made an effort not to play up either side of his background. Our country is so color conscious, that all his statements are under a microscope in effort that he will 'slip' and reveal where is 'loyalty' lies, when, in fact, he is simply trying to do right by the everyday American as opposed to a sub group. The slang statement is irrelevant because we all use slang. Their is an unfair onus placed on Black Americans because because their particular vernacular is popular in mainstream culture, but it no different from the slang from various other social groups. The statement that he speaks 'mainstream' has no substance. How exactly does on speak 'mainstream'? B.Ob is an articulate and intelligent man, and a very polished orator. If these is seen as a negative, this is not his fault, but rather yet another symptom of the hypocrisy in the social interpretations that exists between methods of communication along color lines. Being a good speaker is neither speaking 'black' or 'white'. It's simply the application of a good education. To suggest that it is anything else is simply prejudiced conjecture.
