Bangladeshi Garment Girl

gilgamesh87
A look into the lives of two young, female garment workers in Bangladesh, a country where women were historically excluded from public life. The garment industry has been a mixed blessing for Bangladeshi women - while it has allowed them to finally assert themselves in Bangladeshi society, the conditions they work under in the factories are often oppressive.

    • As an Indian born and raised in America, I have always reminded my American friends that poverty in America is not like poverty in other countries like India....

these people live in an eternal slavery without a way out....and some how, there is a smile on their faces...did you see them....that's called Hope and the human Spirit...

    • I'd actually like to make a documentary about the relations between working conditions in industries like this in the developing world compared to slavery - in "My Cultural Divide" I make the connection and say something to the effect of "we didn't abolish slavery, we outsourced it."

    • Good job Faisal! Great research and presentation of a complex social issue. Very frustrating to see the efforts that are made to fulfill basic needs like eating and shelter.

    • it's like they are stuck and helpless; they go day to day just trying to eat! I am so frustrated with seeing these videos and seeing how many problems are going on all over jsut like this!

    • It may not be doing manual labor in the fields, but this lifestyle looks like the equivalent of modern-day slavery to me. I bet it's hard for people to conceive their high-end sheets bought in a department store began life in such a dirty factory.

    • Excellent work, Faisal.

And I recommend "My Cultural Divide" - it's well worth watching if this subject matter interests you.
