A US-based internet security consultant and part-time hacker calling himself "Stryde Hax" has trawled through the search results on Google, Google China and the Chinese search engine Baidu, unearthing numerous examples of cached official Excel spreadsheet showing He Kexin listed as being born on January 1, 1994.
Search engines work by trawling the web and indexing search results. They usually take a snapshot of their findings at the same time in a process known as caching. So while original web pages can expire or be removed, the cached snapshot of the page can usually still be recovered.
The 1.42-metre (4'8") tall gymnast was part of the women's gymnastic team which won gold and then took an individual gold medal in the uneven bars at the Beijing Olympics. If correct, that would make her 14 instead of 16 and under the competition rules, gymnasts must be aged 16 in the year an Olympics takes place in order to qualify to compete.
The rules were put into place to avoid exploiting younger gymnasts, who have more flexible bodies.

This should be resolved quickly and HONESTLY -- not for the USA or any other country, but for the sake of the athletes themselves. Then, if another competitor is found to have broken the rules, the placing should be revised. Give each athlete what he or she honestly earned.

The truth is China was being watched so closely from the beginning that people are bound to say something.
The fact that they (China) took so much heat in the west for something nearly every single PROFESSIONAL performer does live on North American television is a pretty sad commentary of what we view as important...( I'm talking about the lip syncing of course).
With regards to the cheating... not sure if there's any actual proof, however until someone actually produces the "smoking gun" we should all allow the girl to enjoy her victory... not like they're reading this... or even allowed to read this, but we look pretty petty, and there are more important things to talk about.
Moving on.

If a fourteen-year-old is trained properly, she or he can beat a older teen in gymastics because it is proven that a gymnast peaks around the pre-teen age. And anyway if America did the same thing you all would probably say something different.

It comes down to this. The planet is a "win or nothing" society. It's all for the million dollar endorsement deals. That's why there's cheating at all costs. It's all about the payoff. It's not about "it's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game" as it should be. It's "it's how you win, and how much you can set yourself for life." The work ethic is being chipped away bit by bit with this "win or nothing" credo.

Im just tired of everyone trying to find something wrong with China right now. Yes the country is not perfect, but then again no country is. In the Olympics Americans have cheated many times and often gotten away with it. It just seems like right now people are trying to find everything wrong with China that they can and honestly its getting a bit childish. I could care less about a terrific athlete being 2 years too young...if anything why arent people raising a stink over Cheng Fei's fall still receiving relatively good scores?

And true...the US has had it's allegations of doping, and they were appropriately punished. Re-read that. There medals were stripped and they were banned. And I'm sure in other countries, they were saying, "Good! Those filthy Americans got what they deserved". Now it's someone else's turn to get caught for cheating. And next summer Olympics, it will be someone else, and so on. A vicious cycle.

Also there is a loooooong list of American atheletes that have later be proven to have taken performance enhancing drugs before the Olympics and they were still allowed to keep their medals.

Get real on the finding fault with China. If they were doing nothing wrong, no one would be accusing them of anything.
If you were an athlete who were abiding by the rules and you lost to someone who was mis-representing themselves (albeit through their country) or doping you'd be mad as hell too.
Don't discount flaunting the rules which are in place to keep things on a level field. This is far more important than some here are making it out to be.
Try to walk in their shoes and then see if years of practice and sacrifice really don't matter when others are cheating.

Who said anything about being racist? Not I. I used a common term to refer to someone like myself. In no way was it demeaning or racist. It's called humor, you should try it. And please don't judge people, it's not nice. Unless I blatantly said something truly offensive to a culture, (i.e. n-word), lets keep the labels to ourselves.
But it was pretty blatant that the Chinese girl fell, yet she wins a medal. It's not racist, it's fact. I watched it. MILLIONS watched it. And I sternly believe that the judges were partial to anyone representing China and other asian countries, hence the scoring travesty. If you can't see that, then you must be blind. (You meaning in general, not you personally) And I believe the German/Russian should have got the gold, her routine was flawless! I watched it over and over, DVR allows me to do that.
Please name this long list of athletes that were allowed to keep their medals that were proven to be cheating. Don't worry...I'll wait.
And I'm hardly slandering anyone. Never once did I mention anything about how someone looks, performs, or judges their character. Before you start accusing someone of those things, please look in the mirror. Now who's doing the slandering?

I have no doubt in my mind that these girls are so unbelievably talented. That is not what is being disputed though, their age is. Rules are rules. It's not the fact that I don't believe they deserve their medals, its the fact that their ages were lied about and then were supposedly covered up. We might never know if thats the truth, but if it is, then I stand by the fact that they broke the rules and should suffer the consequences like everyone else who breaks Olympic rules. If they are, in fact, of legal age, then more power to them for winning gold.

Excuse me, but what difference would two years make on this little girl's ability? I doubt that she would lose any of her "youthful flexibility" by then.
Plus, she seems to have a heart of gold. Does anyone remember when He lifted her teammate up in the air after the her routine? I doubt that many other young olympians could be that genuinely excited over someone else's victory.

I agree that this girl is probably very sweet. Furthermore, it is not her fault that her country is cheating. One could argue though that she is brainwashed (at 14) into thinking that her age is no issue and not cheating because "bending" this rule is good for the Motherland.
I as other's here still contend it's cheating and I could do a check today and find out the exact true birth date of every U.S. athlete. How fair is it for China to "allegedly" document their age when you would have to be a fool to look this girl in the face and not know that she is younger than 16.
We could make excuses all day, they are cheating no different than doping.

I do realize these girls are humans (highly trained robotic from almost birth humans :).
Again, brainwashing is much easier at a younger age. The U.S. Marines like to get young men at 18 and no older for a reason. It is much easier to teach someone to take another life at 18 versus more experience that comes with age.
Point taken, thanks for the clarification.

I think that the reason this is creating so much controversy is because the girls are from the host country. It looks like China is trying to cover stuff up. It's not fair to the girls who wait and wait for years before they are able to turn 16 and compete in the Olympics. It doesn't matter how good the Chinese girls are, if they are competing under age, it's not fair to everyone else who waits. There is no reason to have rules in the Olympics if they aren't going to be abided by. It's a shame that the controversy over the age of the Chinese gymnasts has come to this, but they should have followed the rules in the first place.

what pathetic topic ! Any sports which decideing who win is based on the judge. It always can be argue whether hosting nation get advantage, therefore there is judge panel. However why American just can not accept the result, if IOC find her is underage, of course they will take action. However there are already so many disord news around this sites. These stories keep popping up stating that China is cheating but there is no actual real evidence yet - because if there was then they would be in trouble with the Olympic officials. I think the fact that they have probably trained and trained (and trained some more) since the day they won the games has made them win so many medals and really excel. It's only natural for the host country to be more successful than before - perfect conditions no need to acclimatise, home support - everything in their favour.
I think sour grapes are playing a part in these arguments! No-one is claiming that the UK is cheating and it is their most successful Games for something like 100 years.
I think if they are cheating then take the medals back but let us wait and see what the truth is!

Rules are posted. China broke them. Take the medals and let the kids disappear. What kind of country trains their athletes from like age 3 and still has to cheat. And yes the reason this girl was chosen was be cause she was so good meaning china intentionally fudged her age so she could compete. Cheating.
P.S. Olympic boxing sucks it.

Something is very odd about the Host Country Dominating. It looks very suspicious...if it were the USA as Host and we just Dominated other countries in the gold medal they would be having the same conversation, China would especially be up in arms. is it an amazing feat or is it the product of a country that takes kids (that they select at a very young age) away from their parents and basically tells them that their new life will consist of training for a sport at the expense of a normal life...these "athletes" are not asked if it is what they want they are told it is what they will do and then brainwashed into believing it is their duty to represent their country.

Yeah in most cases more experience and training helps, but as they commented on many times during the games, the Chinese recruit their gymnists really early some by age 3 so that is plenty of training, secondly being younger for most people means being smaller, thus giving you the ability to more eaisly rotate your body in the air because they don't have as much to rotate.
I do think that China has been amazing in these games and that people are most of the time just looking for anything to pick at them for, but in this case it is cheating. To me the idea that someone younger than 16 can handle all the pressure and stress of representing their country is crazy, think back to when you were 14, you had pressure from parents, school, and friends and that was a rough age, now think about having your entire country pressuring you to not only do something but to do it flawlessly better than anyone in the world! that would mess with anyone's head - 3 years ago

I think they are being called cheaters not because "we're not winning" but because they're cheating.

They've always been good at gymnastics...I remember watching Olympics when I was younger and they were always in it. But...they know there is fierce competition, especially from the US, so why not make sure that China sweeps the gold, and the US gets second place? Doesn't sound too far fetched coming from a communist country.

Why is this a big deal?
Because it is cheating and China has a history of this kind of behavior. That's why!
Every other country has a better system of birth records that can be verified than China. So, if evidence surfaces that they were mis-representing their athletes then the IOC needs to take them away. The IOC would strip them of the medals if they were doping. Tell me where the difference is regarding breaking the rules due to age?
There is no difference! Cheating is cheating!
End of story!!!!

Also, though the Chinese people are really cool, the Chinese government is a bunch of total dicks. So it's fun to find stuff out that makes them look bad.

I wish we could verify all of this information and present it to someone who could get something done about it. But who is going to accuse the host country, with information from ,"Stryde Hax?"
