Republican presumptive presidential nominee John McCain introduced first-term Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate here Friday at a raucous rally before thousands of his supporters.

Citing her "strong principles, fighting spirit and deep compassion,'" McCain said the 44-year-old Palin is "exactly who I need; she's exactly who this country needs to help me fight the same old Washington politics of me first and country second."

_______________________

A couple of questions: Where does Gov. Palin stand on allowing oil drilling in ANWR? What is her overall stance on environmental issues? What is the latest on the investigation into the firing of her ex-brother-in-law who was a state trooper in Alaska?

Palin, like about 60 percent of Alaska voters, favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Her environmental credentials are, at best, mixed. She favors what we in Alaska call "predator control," including, gif necessary, the hunting of wolves from the air. Just recently her Dept. of Fish and Game pulled some wolf cubs from their den and shot them as part of a program to improve moose survival.

She also opposes the listing of the polar bear as an endangered species.

_______________________

What are Governor Palin's three greatest strengths? What are her three greatest weaknesses?

She is smart, vivacious and energetic; she tends to oversimplify complex issues, has had difficulty delegating authority, and clearly has difficulty distinguishing the line between her public responsibilities and private wishes. She is under legislative investigation on this, the so-called "troopergate" issue, in which she is said to have used improper influence to try to get her sister's ex-husband fired from the state troopers.

So...the right wingers are the literate ones, huh? Are you including George Bush in the group? The leader of your party couldn't articulate a clear thought even if he tried. I personally have been embarrassed by his speeches since he took office. I cringe every time he gets close to a microphone. McCain's speeches have the same effect.

    • That being said, I think it's entirely fair to say that I think Palin is an absolutely terrible choice for VP, and frankly, a reckless one by McCain. I don't think the office of Vice President should be given to just anyone, despite their race, gender or individualism.

I agree with what you said in your video. This subject got messy very quickly. Hopefully readers will take it down a few notches.

On a bright note, Obama just gave the perfect reply when asked about Palin and her family.

    • "She also opposes the listing of the polar bear as an endangered species. "

You call that smart? Polar Bears are having to swim for their food and she opposes having them put on the endangered species list?

Mrs. Palin....your family needs you. So do the polar bears of which you care nothing for. I feel bad for your family. I have a disabled chiild, too. Trying to play sympathy card for having one isn't going to work for me. I wonder how her downs syndrome child would feel if he/she knew her mother ( or grandmother?) doesn't care about the Polar Bears plight!

McCain...you have already served your country...in Viet Nam and was captured and a POW...not gonna take that from you but it surely has affected your thinking. I think you made a good choice...heehee!

      OBAMA/BIDEN FOR THE CORRECT CHANGE:
McCAIN/PALIN FOR MORE OF THE SAME: WAR, JOBLESSNESS, TAX CUTS FOR CORPORATIONS, NO NATIONAL HEALTH CARE PLAN, NO FUNDS FOR EDUCATION, CRONNIE-ISM and MORE WAR IN IRAN?

McCain has voted 25 times against solar energy, wind energy and other sustainable AMERICAN MADE ENERGY!!!

      WAKE UP AMERICA!!! WAKE UP!!!

HAVN'T YOU HAD ENOUGH YET??? WAKE UP!!!

    • A mother's first responsibility is to her husband and children. She has made a very bad decision for her family that needs her. I can only imagine how demanding it would be to assist in running a country and raising five kids all at the same time! Oh John McCain, what were you thinking? I just want to say, thank you John, thank you once again for more than proving you aren't fit to run our nation. Now Obama is just steps away from becoming our new president! Thank God!

    • So this lady has an infant with downs syndrome and thinks that she will have time to perform her duties as vice president. That sounds like a bad mom to me. but I'm sure that she can hire someone to take care of the kid. Like all the other mothers with down children in america. that last line was Sarcasm

    • First thing, what happened to respect when it comes to others choices?

I ask this because there seems to be a Pavlovian response here to anything that is remotely conservative and guess what, there are a handful here who think middle of the road or to the right even. Yeah.. surprising I know.

      wow

You see this place is a liberal haven. Most everyone here is anti anything that doesn't give with Gore. Ok.
So what. It is hardly the representation of the nation.

Does anyone here think that slinging mud at either Senator or VP is going to change anyone's mind here? I would say that is HIGHLY DOUBTFUL.

And to address some here, yeah some women do have a value system that is fine with the VP's record on "femine" issues. We are not cookies, we are individuals. And yeah we all think and we are intelligent and we have opinions... yeah we women.. do.

Grow up. Quit putting everyone down.

If your Obama is the man you say he is.. then why in the hell are you guys feeling so threatened by the RNC?

Yeah, the writing about the VP, people are so afraid that it might steal Obama's thunder.

Respect each other, use your extra energy getting people to vote, and give them their own minds... Don't belittle them for one side or the other.

A very small percentage of America actually votes.

To me that is extremely pathetic. And that is the main issue.

What I disagree with are groups of people that are to "get out the vote" and then present a liberal or conservative message, without giving both equal weight. Give both or have neither.

Voting should be what is encouraged. Not what side. This is not a fight. People seem to think it is. (???) No wonder the country is all screwed up and our dollar is falling.

I think it's the mud slinging. If someone cannot win based on positive output, then we are doing something wrong.

So try something new in policitics.
Yes, it's something that the talking heads don't do, the newspapers and the websites don't always do it.

Try respecting others. Wow. New concept isn't it.

Maybe if we start here in this little community online, it might spred, as we talk to others respectully in our lives, if we demand positive and respectful handling of our entire election.

You do realize that WE the people determine how the adds are made. If we demand a stop to negative and derogatory adds, and mudslinging and have them focus on what each person has to offer... we could change our country.

So for those who what hope and change, start right there with you... here...
respect others. please, give it a try.
      Thanks.

Are you talking about Gore or Palin when you say 'the writing about the VP' and 'the VP's record on 'femine' issues.' Do you mean 'feminine?' If this is regarding Palin, she's is merely a candidate right now. I'm not trying to be critical, but you're posting was so confusing to me, I can't be clear other than I think you want us all to get along? But interestingly enough you are criticizing everyone on this site, Al Gore, and people who register voters? You ask to quit putting people down, but then go on to do just that.

    • Against gun control, for drilling in ANWR, against abortion, a 4 month old child with DS at home ? What the hell? What Hillary supporter is going to vote for this woman? She is everything Hillary is not. What is Mccain thinking?

    • This is a pick that is purely political not in the countries best interest. Religious right conservatives are giddy over this after McCain scared them with the idea of a VP who was Pro Choice. They were almost burning him in effigy.

Voting on one issue is moronic. Democracy and the nation deserves better than that.
