Bush quietly seeks to make war powers permanent, by declaring indefinite state of war

Buried in a recent proposal by the Administration is a sentence that has received scant attention -- and was buried itself in the very newspaper that exposed it Saturday. It is an affirmation that the United States remains at war with al Qaeda, the Taliban and "associated organizations."
Part of a proposal for Guantanamo Bay legal detainees, the provision before Congress seeks to “acknowledge again and explicitly that this nation remains engaged in an armed conflict with Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and associated organizations, who have already proclaimed themselves at war with us and who are dedicated to the slaughter of Americans.”
The New York Times page 8 placement of the article in its Saturday edition seems to downplay its importance. Such a re-affirmation of war carries broad legal implications that could imperil Americans' civil liberties and the rights of foreign nationals for decades to come.

Let's face it the whole PNAC thing was gross error. Israel is no friend of the USA, and the whole capitalist trip is going downhill with the wheels falling off as I type.
The facade built up by state, church and industry has some major holes in it.

Dear Evolve4602,
May I suggest that Bin Laden might be dead as the proverbial parrot for a while now ?
Which doesn't mean we don't need him anyway for the fear mongering campaign patrol though...

Investigation into Whether America is Still a Constitutional Government
http://constitutionally.blogspot.com/
TheTrojan horse of 'emergency'. It was the tactic of Lenin, Hitler, and Mussolini. In the collectivist sweep over a dozen minor countries of Europe, it was the cry of men striving to get on horseback.
And 'emergency' became the justification of the subsequent steps. This technique of creating emergency is the greatest achievement that demagoguery attains." - Herbert Hoover - (1874-1964), 31st US President - 3 years ago

As long as the GOP and cronies are in power we will always remain in a perpetual state of warfare and conflict. However, I do agree that we need to step up our efforts to once and for all kill Bin Laden and cripple the al Qaeda network. But this constant push for a police state and destruction of our civil liberties has got to stop.

Why haven't Senators Obama, Hillary Clinton, Biden and McCain and the rest of Congress stopped this?
I won't vote for anyone in the present Congress who doesn't impeach Bush, stop funding the war and immediately rescind the executive order giving the President unlimited powers to declare war and martial order.

To me this seems like a precursor to him gaining absolute power. There is an article of the Patriot Act that will allow him to suspend the elections in a state of emergency. Congress would not be allowed to review these actions for 6 months, possibly allowing him to effectively disband them before they can even dispute it.
I suggest any Conservative who decides what I say to be false to do some required reading of the Patriot Act. It's more than just warrantless wire-taps and monitoring your library activity.
Personally I'm going to do everything in my power to prevent that from happening.

War is never the answer.
Terrorism increases when governments use military force against populations.
But the multinational corporations controlling the governmenta don't want peace.
The sad truth is there are billions and trillions of dollars to be made on war. Most in Congress and U.S.Government profit directly from investments in weapons manufacturing and weapons trafficking worldwide.
Don't expect these "leaders" to stop war when there is so much profit to be made from the destruction and rebuilding war brings.
The People want PEACE NOW.
Work for Peace and as Ghandi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world."
Don't look for a "leader" to change the world for the better. Begin changing things yourself, every day, with the choices you make.

I think this is akin to the war on drugs. We just have to stay at war with terrorism. How about a war on poverty. It is a vehicle to allow spending at any time that something arises. I don't see it as a total suspension of habeus corpus. Unless you are one of those detained in Gitmo.

And the next AIPAC president will only continue it. People need to wake the hell up. Our government is only using 'Al Qaeda" (which is an offshoot from the Muharjadeen in Afghanistan in the eighties when these same conservatives thought Bin Laden was a "freedom fighter" for helping them fight the "commie" Russians) to perpetuate perpetual war to take away our civil liberties and use fear to do it.
I am not at war with ANYONE, and am greatly disappointed that 9.11 was not used as a vehicle to actually work for peace in this world instead of this BS "war on terror." I am not bringing up my child to hate Muslims, or to tell him we are at war with them and will not do so. On 9.11.2001 as we were told, a group of men mainly from Saudi Arabia BTW, the country Bush goes to to hold hands with their sheiks, boarded planes and proceeded to attack the World Trade Center and other venues hoping that it would make us hateful towards the world and bring us down to their level. That is how terrorism thrives... it seeks to make its victims hateful and heartless as the terrorists are, and in this case cause America to fall economically. That was the plan and it seems to be working beautifully, egged on by hateful Americans and Republican brownshirts who want nothing more than to use that day as a perpetual reminder of the hatred they too feel for those different from them.
Those who attacked us supposedly died that day, and in the last seven years we have murdered thousands of innocent civilians for an empty cause, thus proving those terrorists who hijacked those planes right. How anyone can sit here and call for more of this BS only shows how hateful their hearts really are. Well I'm not falling for it, and I will never condone having to live in a police state to assuage a group of hateful, greedy, deceiving politicians who want to subjugate my mind to their ideology. And those who say we should remain in a state of war, get your asses out to your local recruiting station now, because my child is not going to be one of the casualties of this deception for YOU.
And don't then wonder why America is hated in this world and will continue to be so even should the Messiah Obama be chosen by the elitists who are really running this country from behind the scenes. If he continues this doctrine, I will fight against him just as vigourously as I have against Bush. You can bank on that.

If there actually were any terrorists on those planes - there is no evidence that there were any, only what we were told. Even the FBI admits it has no evidence connecting any terrorist to those flights, and a good half-dozen or more of the alleged terrorists happen to be alive and well.

Truth is at times harsh. And that isn't the "Michael Moore" side, that is the AMERICAN side. You however, support murderers and liars who would subvert our constitution for their own selfish gain at the expense of innocent lives. How's that for some truth for you? And don't you worry, we can take care of ourselves. I doubt Al Qaeda is going to be around every corner as ignorant goosesteppers in this country want us all to believe in order to find us riveted with fear so as to take everything your illustrious leaders Bush and Cheney say as fact to keep us compliant to their will. Should a REAL CREDIBLE threat ever touch these shores, I will defend my country. I will not however, be subjected to FALSE and MISLEADING information leading us to a 'war' that has only brought us more misery just to assuage the greed of those perpetrating it. They and their cohorts have done nothing but lie, steal, cheat, and deceive the people of this country. And while I may not support either Obama or McCain, the one good thing I do have to look forward to is seeing them GONE from Washington DC.

Nice shady photo! What is this Scooby Doo?
Of course we remain at war with Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and "Associated Organizations."
"I had friends who died at ground zero, and war buddies who died fighting Al Qaeda."
And yes, it was Al Qaeda who hijacked our friends and family members and flew them into buildings. As much as you would actually like to say it was Bush who planned it, who by the way is imperfect and always making mistakes. But on 9/11 it was all Al Qaeda. Where our Government failed was to deal with Al Qaeda from 1991-2001.
We should remain in a state of war with these organizations.
