WE TOLD YOU SO

At both the DNC and RNC, anarchists showed themselves to have seized the initiative to determine the character of street demonstrations. The US anarchist movement has survived several years of repression and attempted co-optation, proving that the upsurge associated with the anti-globalization era was not a flash in the pan: if anything, we are stronger today than ten years ago.

    • I have a lot of mixed feelings about this.

I love to see a citizen hand out beat downs on cops but I also recognize the long term counter productive repercussions.

I guess I will support these revolutionaries as the establishment has left us with no other choice at this point in our American lives, but I must all remind protesters to be vigilant of cointelpro agents, and dude needs to get rid of those shoes 'cause the law has his ass in their cross-hairs now.

p.s. eye protection is a must from now on.

    • There were vandals they DID break windows on Police vehicles. Whether those were true "anarchists" or Republican/Rovian "plants", their penchant for violence should not be tolerated.

They were clearly there to provoke the situation and that is exactly what they intended to do in the first place.

This sort of action gives cannon fodder to the FAUX "News" Channel and to the Police. These people HURT the cause of non-violent protest as a means to evoke political and moral change and awareness.

It would have been so much more unforgivavble for Police to have attacked a non-violent gathering. Now, their over-reaction seems less egregious to others.

    • Just by showing up in riot gear-job security. Without provoking potentially tense situations to a level of anxiety that results in violence or property damage, they might have to resort to being mall cops. Busting the heads of unarmed marchers or protestors exercising their 1st Amendment rights is good Fox News fodder & justifies the existence of both cops & Fox. In fact, isn’t that one of their most popular shows?

Funny how people protesting their support for the war are patriotic while those protesting against the war are anarchists in need of a good beating, lockup, & charges that often result in a criminal record for trespassing or resisting arrest, which will haunt you later in life. People in power will do anything to stay there & create an atmosphere of anarchy around any group that doesn't support them. Fuckers.

    • I think you're a bunch of twerps that need a spanking and sent to bed without any dinner.

You all look like a bunch of juvenile delinquents that haven't a clue about politics.

Break some more windows. Yeah anarchy.

Probably because the French organize peacefully, they do not wear bandanas like Billy the Kidd, they do not break windows, they do not grab a shield and rush police lines. etc etc etc.

You tell me. What do you do differently from the French that is EFFECTIVE and doesn't THREATEN people.

The police in France aren't out there in riot gear most of the time, and protest has a long and strong history in the country. It is more accepted in France culturally because the people are quite politically aware, and protest is an aspect of politics.

Also when hundreds of thousands of people take to the streets, as in France there is really little the police can do due to the shear numbers on the streets, whereas at the conventions there are small groups of a few hundred people the police can easily subdue.

I think a last explanation, which is also culturally derived, is that the American culture is more masculine and aggressive in nature and the French one, which is more feminin in nature. Given this the propensity toward confrontation and extreme violence might be stronger in the United States.

I don't have statistics to back this up, but only personal experience and recollections of things read in the past.
