Palin slashed funding for supporting teen mothers in Alaska.

Earlier this year Palin used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.
Earlier today the Associated Press reported that McCain opposed funding to prevent teen pregnancies, a position that Palin also took as governor. "The explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support," she wrote in a 2006 questionnaire distributed among gubernatorial candidates.

    • This doesn't make a lick of sense. If you're pro-life, you need to at least put funding out there for teen mothers who have to live with the baby because not every parent is supportive. I've met people who forcibly kick out their kid if they ever turn up pregnant and cut all ties to them.

It's just like if you're pro-choice and you won't fund abortion clinics. If you're going to make a decision, at least support what's going to be a part of it.

    • I wonder if experiences like her teen daughter's pregnancy might force Palin and her colleagues to change their opinions on sex education and abstinence programmes? Surely Palin's own experience is telling her that teenagers *do* have sex and they *do* need to know about it.

I know that nominees' families should really be off-limits, but I do love that what's going on in Palin's family is absolute proof of the Republicans' wrongness on so many issues.

    • is it possible that she thinks all women's families will be as supportive to their pregnant daughters as she is with her daughter? talk about living in a dream world.

    • McCain wishes he had that body... instead of the lumpy thing that he has now. Palin seems more and more like a dumb bimbo the more I hear about her. I wish that baby well but I know that living in that household it'll probably be doomed from the start.

    • The inability of republicans to come to the aid of our own citizens amazes me, especially when they have a situation in their own home exactly like what they are ruling on. This is a great example that Palin can't see the forest for the tree's.

    • I really hope that good ol mac doesnt get elected. The last thing the women in this country need is another woman taking their rights away. We have all been teenagers, they just arent going to save themselves until marrige no matter what we do. The ones that do save themselves get married at 18........... so they can have sex. At least of we teach them about safe sex the likleyhood of them contracting a disease is much lower. Its really common sense. I amazed more people dont have it.

    • That pic is hil-ari-ous!

If what you preach doesn't even work for your own family, then perhaps somethings gotta give. Just because they're going to have a shot gun wedding to legitimate this child doesn't make it less hypocritical that she's all about abstinence only education. Give these kids condoms and stop telling women what to do with their bodies. Just as she had a right to choose what she wanted to do with her body, so should a rape victim, so should a woman not financially or mentally ready to take care of a life.

    • Not surprising. It's unfortunate that her daughter's pregnancy has been such a scandal, but maybe it will teach her (and the other conservatives that don't support sex-ed) an important lesson.
