Does Palin speak in tongues?

uroborus8
Her church believes you can speak in tongues. People are starting to ask if she does. What do you think of speaking in tongues?

    • Holy fire?? More like holy shit!! I was raised Christian and I had a similar experience at a youth conference that just absolutely turned me off on Evangelicals and the whole "church scene" altogether. I didn't see any of this bizarre epileptic behavior, but I saw people so worked up in the emotion of (what I believe to be) a completely manufactured moment meant to work people into a frenzy. The "tounges" only works to enhance this strange state of mind. This is ridiculous... God of the Bible and his son Jesus would be ashamed of this behavior (the epileptic shit I mean) IMO....

Drunk in the Spirit my ass! It's more like drunk on themselves....

    • I know people who speak in tongues so I dont really feel any way about it. As long as they dont sacrifice babies or something, then I'm ok.

    • White noise... I am always wondering if I have comments that have the quality to follow you on these boards. Great job as always.

I went to what was called a Freewill Baptist Church in my youth, It wasn't the no dancing stereotype you see in movies. To me it was so neat because our whole neighborhood went, so it was as much about community as anything.

We had a group of people showing up from time to time and after a few visits, they began to assert what direction the church should go in, and said, verbatim: "you have to speak in tongues to gain salvation".

Our pastor, a Crow Indian, asked them if they went from church to church to impose their theology, or have they been kicked out of other congregations for trying to decide the teachings of those churches.

Yes there is the Biblical passage about the Upper Room where the Disciples spoke in tongues, but I have no faith that speaking in tongues is the key to salvation. It is a fringe group like the snake handlers and the "Holy Rollers".

This is a good reason among many that Ms Palin needs to start answering questions and not repeating her thanks but no thanks to that bridge to nowhere mantra.

I respect your comments and clearly this is a lie that these people were trying to impose on your church. Its clearly unbiblical and no Pastor should even give it a second thought. My point though is that this does not relate to speaking in tongues and this church denomination (excuse my spelling). They do not believe that speaking in tongues as an outward sign of salvation. Though they likely believe its an outward sign of having been baptised by the Holy Spirit.

    • I don't know if she does. For some clarification on the speaking in tongues, read/study 1st Corinthians chapters 12 to 15; particulary, the 12th chapter.
Which bible... use a KJV, NIV, the Living Bible & compare what you read. They each say the same passage differently but still manage to keep it in the same context.

    • Iam not sure on Tongues. There is basis on it being both unknown heavenly language and foreign language. I once read stories of missionary's in the early 1900's that went out on the field and spoke lanuages they had no knowledge. Probably the most recent I have heard of is a Lady who spoke to Jews in Israel in Hebrew with no knowledge of the language.

    • The Pentecostals have been around for years. I wouldn't call them main stream. I'm sure you have heard of Holy Rollers? In the South some are still snake handlers. A couple of years ago a woman died from snake bite she got in church. I guess she didn't believe enough. Maybe they aren't a cult but pretty close.

      Snake handling
      From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Snake handling is a religious ritual in a small number of pentecostal churches in the U.S., usually characterized as rural and Holiness. Practitioners believe it dates to antiquity and quote the Book of Mark and the Book of Luke to support the practice

I still argue that this is not apart of Pentcostalism. They may believe in the gifts of the spirit or extravagant worship like Pentacostals but this is not accept doctrine in Pentacostal churches.

    • Of course it seems ridiculous to people who aren't of that particular faith, but those people are just as spiritual and legitimate as any other religion. those people WANT to be there and they like it. thats what religion is for.

    • "A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side" - Aristotle

» - Michel Onfray

The essence of Christianity is told us in the Garden of Eden history. The fruit that was forbidden was on the tree of knowledge. The subtext is; All the suffering you have is because you wanted to find out what was going on. You could be in the Garden of Eden if you had just keep your fucking mouth shut and hadn't asked any questions.

Tax the FUCK out of the churches ! - Frank Zappa

    • Speaking in tongues does exist; however, we are a free America and we have freedom of religion. She's a Christian, good for her. I don't believe that has anything to do with how she will help run this country, if elected.

how foolish, it her religion has ALREADY effected her politics in her own state, as vp why would she stop there? lady does not believe in a person's right to choose what she does with her body, and has used her power in abstinence-only teaching public school health programs. look how well that worked out for her family! great work!

tonguesss i could care less about, its the rest of her religion's baggage that i am unwilling to deal with.

    • I havn't decided what I think about tongues. I believe it happens, but my opinion is that this church does not have the right idea about tongues. I agree with JanaPokana, let's get an exorcist out there!

Is this guy a prophet? Did you notice how many times he flung out "God says..."? Those charasmatic types are something else.

That being said, Palin attending this kind of church does not effect the way she will handle a job as vice president.

And, likewise, the kind of religious beliefs held by Obama, whatever they may or may not be, should not effect the way he would handle a job as president.

    • Nice one uroborus8 use a video from a New Yorker that belongs to the most extreme part of the "Contemporary Prophetic Movement" and pass it out as a video related to Pentacostal Churches and Sarah Palin. uroborus8 if Christians make you sick I expect you to start uploaded videos of Rev Wright and posing questions related to Obama and Rev Wrights beliefs.

I don't believe in god and religion is responsible for more human death than anything. A president should not believe they can speak in tongues. Retired_Navy was using the bible like it is a legitimate source to prove people can indeed speak in tongues. This should not even be related to Obama and if you guys want a story about his church it will not be hard for you to contribute one.

That's a stupid point. Yes, they are not for me on the basis of their religious beliefs. Also not for me as neither support gay marriage. But ummmm there is some sort of separation of....what is it......church and state? Of which Obama supports and will uphold and Palin does not support and will not uphold.

    • I believe that there are things that can't be explained...yet. But fanatic religious people are not one of them. People who have highly advanced skills are usually spiritually advanced enough not to have to perform a stage show. Down with the circus!

And what do those people with "highly advanced skills" do exactly? Time travel maybe?

If you weren't so quick to judge, you would see that this man is making a whole lot of people happy and helping them fulfill their spirtual needs.

You dont have to agree, but saying "down with the circus" is extremely Nazi-esque
