Interestingly, this poll was held prior to the national conventions and the media frenzy surrounding Sarah Palin's placement on the Republican ticket. I wonder if the results would stay the same if the same poll was taken now?

This is an interesting illustration of just how out of sync U.S. voters are with the rest of the world. And it's sad, b/c I feel safe generalizing that non-U.S. folks are much better informed and more thoughtful when it comes to political issues. Finally, what's really sad and ironic is that the faction of U.S. people who will start foaming about 'what right do other countries have to weigh in about our government' are the same people who don't blink when the U.S. steps in unsolicited and often ham-fisted into the affairs of other countries. Sigh.

Obama is the man for the job! I'd love to have a vote, but alas as a British citizen its nothing to do with me.
But after George W Bush's dismal term in office I think it's unsurprising that the rest of the world is desperate for a change, and hopeful that the next President will be the dignified, intelligent, informed and democratic human being that the job deserves. We've had to watch helplessly as the American government (and the British, I admit) has wreaked havoc in the Middle East, and lied about its motivations. I think it makes a lot of sense that many thousands of people want to move on from, and remedy, that shameful situation.

The same foolish people who voted for Bush are whining at this time just as foolish people who vote for McCain will whine too. McCain and Palin scare me to death, if they get voted into office, the poor and middle class people may as well pack it up and call it a day because McCain doesn't care a hoot for this group of folks and Palin is just being used to get votes of the white women who wanted Hillary nominated, however, this was their excuse because they will these same whining white women will never vote for a minority anyway. Come on people, can't you see what is going on! McCain is the devil in disguise and Ms. Palin is being used by him. Wake up America and see evil vs good

Its got nothing to do with a path to citizenship. As a matter of fact I'm all for a "path" to citizenship as part of a compromise to securing the US - Mexico border.
Let’s face it... realistically speaking you cant just deport 20 million + illegals. So as a compromise... secure the border, stop the influx of new illegal immigrants, deport illegal aliens with a criminal record, and implement a workable plan to assimilate the current illegal population. Anyone not willing to assimilate can get a free bus ride to the border.
And if you did your research instead of soaking in the liberal propaganda you would know that the dems have been pushing hard for illegal immigrant voting rights. While yes Bush has pushed for immigration reform it was just a weak attempt to fix a broken system. Lets face it which side stand to benefit more by giving illegals voting rights? I can tell you this much> Its not the Republicans.

Really. In fact. If they are smarter than us and you continue to live here with us, doesn't that make you one of us who are less smart than those really smart people that live in Europe? Los Angeles County has greater Economic Productivity than France. Yep - we must be pretty dumb. I have read that our scientists are not as smart. I have read that we are war mongers. It's just sad that Americans live in such a bubble of this patriotic conservative crap. Not to bash on people who don't live in coastal states, but we're the people who kind of have a grasp of what's going on in the world. Open your eyes people, rouse up from your zombie state of brainwashing by the Republican party. There is a world, with people as rich in culture and as equally important, some of who just want to get along. But nooo...half of America still wants to support the Maverick. Liberals approve of good relations with foreign leaders while those same relations make conservatives bristle with hyperpatriotism and wrap themselves even more tightly in American flags pinned up with American flag pins. Hey folks. I know I could be completely wrong here, but the impression I get from the 'Middle Americans' telling non-US folks to STFU is something like this:
"We do not care if our voting actions have cost trillions of $, hundreds of thousands of lives, a major crash of the US and world economy and some of the most horrific abuses of executive power in our history, WE STILL PWN YOUR ASS and will do whatever the hell we feel like. Go fuck yourselves."
There is a delicious irony in having an excessively interventionalist Administration yet insisting that other Nations directly affected BY that Administration should shut up and keep taking it.
Newsflash, kids: the rest of the globe is not your toiletbowl.

Middle America couldn't care less about the world, or the rest of the country because they have a, 'what will the government do for me mentality'.
This won't work for too long. If Americans think that we can stay on top by staying in this box mentality, we're screwed whether or not Obama or McCain is elected. Times are changing, and so should we. Believe me, the Zhou Dynasty of old thought they'd be the superpowers forever. - 3 years ago

And of course they see us as the superpower. Bullies have that same mentality. But times are changing. Smart people can see that, and want to adapt to stay on top. Obama said it himself ... we have to be more "Neighborly" ... only he doesnt mean be nice to your neighbors he means let the government have more of your money so that they can hand it out to their Socialist programs.
In plain terms hes saying that we are not smart enough to help our "neighbors" so the government will take our money and do it for us.
BTW... I live in Mid-America and I would prefer if the government would stay out of my life and let me live it myself. If I dont want to help that old homeless begger down the street... thats my business, Not the governments job to take my money and do it for me..

OK, for the Obama supporters, I said this once, I'll say it again. The American people don't care what the rest of the world is thinking, for the most part, especially in middle America. Americans are very patriotic and they take it as an offense that another country would assume to tell them what to do. Remember "freedom fries"? Stop putting out stories about what the world thinks, because they don't vote, and it turns off the American people who do vote. It is a bad campaign strategy.

Be reasonable.
That is not the only time the 'world' complains. America has butted in on other people's elections or who is in office and what happens?
"Shut up and mind your own business."
The world should take that advice.

Its still completely different. When we want someone to run another country, we put them there by force. The world has every right to say what they want, no one said they should vote.
What you have also forgotten is that if we elect another neocon he wont leave the world alone.

Like a person who runs on "change" and changes his stance every week.....The only thing that remains the same is change....(that wasn't to you J_Jammer).

Which is OK in places like Darfur, but not anywhere else. So unless the world approves, we're wrong.

This is type of hyperbole serves no one. There is a distinct difference between expressing one's opinion in a poll, and interfering in a country's national policies. This type of opinion seems to be based more on xenophobia then actual common sense.

What's wrong with voicing opinion? Who we elect as president can have a major effect on the rest of the world, and they should have an opinion about it.

He makes outlandish statements, gets argued down until he realizes he's got no logical argument and then vanishes. Then he re-appears on another story with something equally silly to say and repeats the whole thing.
He's very hard to communicate with. I'm not sure if he's here for sport or if he just doesn't think some things through.

Thank God the rest of the world isn't voting in this election. We here in the States are nationalist, not one-world order socialist. The rest of the world can keep on wishing for Obama and think what they want to think about us, but you still depend on us.
Why are there toes sticking out of your mouth? TAKE THAT FOOT OUT!!!
