Folllowing American Airlines introduction of wi-fi access on some of their domestic flights, some flight attendants want to see filters put in place to stop people looking at porn.

With people sat so close together they say it is almost impossible for people to not take a glance at a screen right next to them. A union representative told Bloomberg News that attendants and passengers have raised "a lot of complaints" over the issue.

So, do they filter the porn out, or slap the wrists of anyone caught watching it?

    • Just because you *can* do something doesn't entitle you to do it.

You are't allowed to have sex in your seat, you aren't allowed to masturbate in your seat, the plane doesn't offer adult movies, and they don't offer porn magazines. Just because they allow access to the internet doesn't mean you get to abuse it any way you want.

You pay to be a passenger in their private space; just like a good house guest, you shouldn't be plopping yourself down to watch porn at a friend's living room computer just because you can. I for one don't want to see you have sex, and I don't want to see you thinking about sex. I paid for my seat, too, and I guarantee that the majority of paying passengers would be happy to vote you off the plane. What you do in the privacy of your own home on your own dime is your business, and more power to you; I'll protect your God-given right to watch strangers copulating while sitting around in your bathrobe with my dying breath. In the meantime, don't do it somewhere I have to watch.

    • It would appear that Qantas share the concerns as they have also decided to shelve plans to offer internet access. The swines!

    • Certain things should be private. What if there are kids around you. Comments will be made and word travels so if you don't think a person behind your seat not going to watch than you are out of touch. Treat it like smoking. need to wait till you are off the plane.

    • Odds are, if your looking at porn at 38,000 ft then you an adult. Capable of making rational descisions, and justifying them.

Sick of this censorship and nanny culture crap. If i want to see people fucking while in a hollow tube travelling at 400 mph, then i bloody will.

Let me enjoy myself while scared shitless at the possiblity of engine failure..... hehe

    • I think they should just use the all-call system from the flight deck. "We'd like to remind the passenger in seat 33E that American Airlines has a strict policy against watching porn while in flight. Please switch it off immediately."

    • Just like back in the 70's and early 80's for smoking. You'll will be asked porn section or non-porn section. Now we'll know it's gotten bad when we see people masturbating on the plain -"lil johnny dont look at that man!!(as she's frantically ringing for the flight attendant) And then not to mention the clean ups on the seat and aisles lol lol lol maybe the airlines should offer more full "service" options huh?!

    • Wow, it looks like a flight to Thailand could end up being even *more* gross, if that's possible. I'm all for (some kinds of) porn, but I don't want to watch/hear/smell someone getting it on with themselves in the seat next to me. And last time I went to Thailand the plane was full of single 40-something men discussing which little girls they'd paid for sex last time, and which they were looking forward to seeing again. Unbelieveable.

    • Yeah, I wouldn't want to be stuck on a flight for hours next to somebody watching porn. Censor away! Or at least give them more private seating.

    • Other passengers looking at porn may be a deterrent to their business and keeping customers. As a business, they can change their "product" to restrict access all they want; so I don't see any reason why they couldn't do so.

    • If they put Computer and Internet Usage Rules on the airline ticket (which is a contract) and they enforce it by kicking passengers off the plane and refusing to sell them tickets ever again the problem is solved without censoring.

Airline-based Internet access are not "public" so the airlines can do anything they want.

    • As long as they use headphones and keep everything inside thier trousers, what's the problem?

Besides, how many people would look at porn on a plane anyway?

It's just an excuse to censor the internet. (I'll bet competing airline websites are 'censored' too, for one.)

    • If you're going to allow internet access, you can't really decide to filter some content, as long as it's legal; people just need to be more discrete.

Of course you can't filter out anything and everything, but there are programs that filter out most porn sites. Airlines will use those programs if they get enough complaints.
