While we're at it why don't we just blame the Russians for the American Civil War and the death of Jesus...

Well a lot of the beef people had with Communist Russia was the atheist aspect so that's close to #2.

Well, Im not sure whether the fact that Communism extols the virtues of atheism was a contributing factor in the death of Jesus. Unless he a had an extremely low level of self-esteem.... Cos I know how upset Id be if a political ideal that would form 1800 years after my birth didn't believe in me.

This is unfortunate news, hopefully Yulia Tymoshenko wins the new elections that will result from this collapse. She is arguably the best looking Prime Minister in the world. In a more serious note, this should be an eastern European matter. It's up to the people of the Ukraine to decide if they want more Russian or Western European influence. Neither is bad, but I could argue a pro-Russian government would be better off for world stability. Stop listening to the NEO-CONS, the Russians aren't as EVIL as the say they are.

Then why is this unfortunate news? Yushenko has made it his #1 mission to aggravate Russia since day one of his tenure, even calling Timoshenko a traitor just because she didn't want to follow this course. Yushenko's father was a real traitor, a POW that became a Nazi collaborator and his government has rehabilitated many Ukranian Nazi collaborators and Holocaust participants as "heroes", Stepan Bandera for example. This has caused a strain in Ukranian/Israeli relations but not lessened Ukraine as an "ally" with the neocons.
So this is GOOD news. Zombie-face is gonna be out.

People of Russia want the country to rise again to "the great power that they used to be" and so.. quietly.. they might be doing that. Which can be scary for some people.

Russia wants the Ukraine back under its wing, it won't happen. Remember the Orange reveloution. The present leader is Pro West but his vice Tymoshenko leans towards Moscow. She wants to be president. The Ukraine people will revolt if Russia tries to take the Ukraine back. They threw out the last president back by Moscow. That is what the Orange reveloution accompolished. Ukrainians will march on the White house and hold it accountable, a lesson many Americans could learn something from.

This week Ukraine, next week, Canada? Ukrainian territory is a vital region for transporting the lifeblood of Europe, I hope some provincial government is decided upon and enacted soon before any further negligible actions are taken... I am not sure to what extent civic services will be effected, but if this 'shift' in government is not a smooth one there could be serious ramifications worldwide as external powers seize the opportunity to capitalize on these changes.
I don't think Russia is anything to worry about in this situation - they are one of the most stable countries and have been for decades, do not fear them - they will likely make sense of the situation if they step in. Although, I would personally not like to see a country as large as the Ukraine adopt a form of rule that would interfere with the socio-political unrest in the entire region as it may send us catapulting towards doom! ...Then again, maybe that is what they will want......

so the soviet union is a nuclear power but its provinces are always in revolt or on the verge of collapse. good thing all of our attention and troops are in iraq? when the fit hits the shan the only nation that could help stop world war three (us) will be too busy playing in the desert with angry muslims. way to look into the foreseeable future and plan accordingly mr bush.

The sooner the EU is self sufficient for its energy requirements, the better. The earlier attempts to bring the soviets in from the cold, could backfire on western europe badly. This latest political situation in the Ukraine is playing right into the hands of power mad
leaders in Russia. Collectivly, the EU as a matter of urgency, should redesign its energy manufacturing capabilities. Let the eastern block have its oil and gas.
As an after thought, it wouldn`t supprise me if the situation wasn`t started by Russia. Can the Ukrainians see the wood for the trees? - 3 years ago

Practically 80% of Natural Gas delivered to the EU goes through pipelines which cross the Ukraine. Last year Russia shut down the Pipelines in a dispute over payments by Ukraine, leaving Europe hanging for about a week. Winter is coming and it could get cold here.

They did not "collapse" basically they want a new Government. Ukranians are so afraid of Russians that they rather lose their Political position than their Life. This has been the "way" all over in Europe as they are just afraid with Russia.
The world needs to put an End to Russia.
