Army recruit found hanged at camp

An Army recruit has died after being found hanging at a barracks, police have confirmed.

The 29-year-old man, who has not been named, died despite attempts by paramedics to resuscitate him just before 0800 BST on Sunday.

It happened at the Alexander Barracks at Pirbright Army camp, Surrey.

Surrey Police have launched an investigation and a post-mortem examination will take place later. Next of kin have been informed.

    • This is very upsetting. I have no idea what goes on in these training camps, but it must be horrific and I have no idea why no one bothers to change this ...

    • There is something seriously wrong with the system for these things to still be happening, no amount of "reviews" and "we are looking into this" will solve the problem.

      The MoD need to step up to the plate and sort this out, by changing the culture in which our soldiers are trained, and that starts from the top down.
