Big ups to Shepard. Was super excited to see him get involved in the campaign so early. I've been a fan of his for some time. Wicked WICKED bright guy; studied at Brown U., was doing a Masters I think before he started getting into sociology and affects of images/media on people. I like his FIXIE too! Thing's sick

“To see it in there, just ripped off, knowing that somebody just made a bunch of money selling the t-shirts to Urban Outfitters, and here I am, just barely being able to pay my rent was definitely upsetting to me,”

Shepard Fairey Threatens To Sue Artist for OBEY Giant Parody
"Self-professed 'Propaganda Re-Engineer' Baxter Orr is an Austin-based, 26-year-old freelance designer who has a penchant for making limited edition prints and parodying some of Shepard Fairey's most iconic images from the Andre the Giant face to the pop artist's most recent mainstream coup d'art: campaign posters for Obama. However, the artist that's made quite a fortune by aggressively plagiarizing copying the works of others, is not so happy with the idea of Andre breathing through a SARS mask, and sent the young illustrator a cease & desist demanding he remove the "Protect Yourself" prints from his website, claiming it's a clear copyright violation."

“He extracts resources largely from political struggles of Third World and working class people, and then simultaneously sells a slightly processed version of the resources to both wealthy elites in the North, but also cheaper mass-commodity versions to the very same people he is stealing from!”

I think it's great to see Fairey get involved. His work has always paid homage to the roots of street art, which is actually in fact political propaganda!

I love his work but I wish people would stop thinking that Obama is going to come in and change everything in one fell swoop. It's important to remember it's not about one man, it's about the movement.

I'm a huge fan of his designs. Great combo of intriguing visual elements and stinging political satire.

I am so excited that the show has opened here in SF - I really really wanted to go see it when we were in Denver, but our schedule was not very forgiving and I never had the chance. But now I do!! :)

Its just another form of propaganda art. repackaged for the masses. Its similar to the Nazi artwork of WWII.
Just an easy way to move the weak minded.

So true, man. Though i would say the severity of the situation does not quite match that of Germany in WW2, this is still the same shameless tactic that politicians use to bolster faith in a candidate by playing to the eyes and not the mind.
"oooooh pretty! i'll trust him to be the commander in chief of one of the most powerful countries on earth. seems qualified to me!"

Read about Shepard Fairey, his mission is propaganda, cult phenomenons. He wanted to use his art to support another cult phenom named 'Obama'. This man won the democratic ticket because of the grassroots and underground work by artists like Shepard.

Shepard Fairey is from Charleston, SC. ( How many of you Obey fans knew that one?) Go homeboy, go!
Not all of us are racist homophobes, believe it or not. I think this election is going to be a shock to the system of the good ole' boy network. South Carolina may be more purple than you think.
