Massachusetts Question 2 induces Reefer Madness Hysteria

On the ballot this November in Massachusetts, voters will have the opportunity to become the 13th state to decriminalize personal possession of marijuana. The initiative, known as Question 2, would make possession of an ounce or less of marijuana a civil fine of $100, and those under 18 have to complete a drug education program and community service, or else the fine goes as high as $1,000.

Most of all, the offense would not be listed in the Criminal Record Information System (CORI) database. Drug warriors like to say “nobody goes to prison for marijuana“, but the harm from a criminal arrest is bad enough. Once you’re in this CORI database, it’s a red flag that hurts you in getting jobs, housing, loans, security clearances, and more. Plus there is the time and money - about $30 million a year - that Massachusetts wastes busting people for small amounts of pot.

Since the measure is enjoying huge support in the polls, the drug warriors have banded together to mount a media offensive. And by “offensive”, I mean the offensively repugnant stench of reefer madness…[more]

    • Hats off to MA !!

It seems like sanity is breaking out in more places than I knew about.

Do you realize where we are friends? MA will be the 13th state? I had no idea we were THIS FAR into the battle. That's absolutely terrific!!! 13 is half of 26. 26 would mean that half the states have taken action on their own in spite of the fed saying this is a no no.

If half the people in the country want to see this happen, then that's a position from which you can force politial action. The representatives would risk political suicide not to go along with the wishes of the majority in their state.

It appears, more & more, that this battle is winable. No guarantees, of course; but I feel like we're 1/2 way home. As these 13 demonstrate, the states WILL change to accommodate the will of the citizens; especially considering the lack of a good reason not to. unreal...

My feeling is, now that we're half way home; it's time to organize the big push. One after another 13 states have legislated decriminaled pot laws. Let's call it 1/4 of the states in the country. We need 13 more states to follow suit and then we'll be where we want to be. "Where we want to be" being defined as in a position to do something about it.

Where stands your state? Others have gotten the ball rolling for us. The time has come for us to pitch in and put this thing in gear. NORML has been fighting as the representatives of our cause. They need support and can furnish organization.

Maybe I'll live to see this yet.

    • ABSOLUTELY!! DECRIMINALIZE IT!!

Do you have any idea the amount of income and jobs that could be created if not only the medicinal/recreational values of cannabis were realized but that of hemp!!

Hemp is an amazingly eco-friendly material! For some reason hemp was outlawed along with cannabis sativa even though the hemp plant contains only trace amounts of psychoactive ingredients. IN FACT Popular Mechanics back in the early 30's did a big article about hemp calling it the "number one cash crop".

So why not legalize it?? What a better time than now to help give our economy a much needed boost! And think of how happy all the farmers would be!

      HEMP FOR VICTORY!!!

    • 38 states will prosecute you for 'partaking'?! Hanibas SEEMS WAY BETTER than cigaretts or alcohol! They should let the people VOTE between the three... Which would you prefer? Nicotine, Liquor, or Marijuana?

Marijuana should be legal b/c the hemp plant has dozens of optimal uses...& it is the easiest to maintain & reproduce.

THIS PLANT COULD HELP SAVE THE WORLD
