Placing money for retirement and college in the stock market is no different than playing it in casinos.

Wow you really don't understand other peoples finances do you? My mother had a retirement annuity that was left to her when my father died(if you pull the money out before you retire the IRS taxes the crap out of you), the same happened for my college funds, they were considered very safe(at the time in the 90's when my father set it up).
