Perhaps the reason Sarah was winking, is she was saying that their run for office is on the blink

Some people might call memorizing talking points and ignoring the questions, "KICKING ASS!" But actually she failed the more important task of not directly contradicting John McCain... Again.

If you call making your own answers to questions provided kicking ass, then yes, she did. Otherwise, yet again Palin used her expertise in issuing non-sequitur rote responses to avoid answering questions she is genuinely inexperienced to respond to.

The American people wern't interested in seeing her kick Joe's ass. They wanted to see if she was qualified to run the U.S and in that area she prooved to be full of hot air and John McCain rhetoric.

Governor Palin is the only individual among the 3 that has any executive experience dealing with budgets, legislature, and responsibility for a state of people. The Senators are a committee that only have 1 vote and no executive decision experience with budgets or personal responsibility.

She left Wasilla with a huge debt for such a small town (over $20 million) due to her mismanagement. Lord knows what mess she has created in Alaska which is yet to be discovered. She is driven by lust for power and money. That's not the kind of crooked person you need at the helm of your sinking country.

Palin was reading from a teleprompter. Her answers were being typed by stoogies from the GOP. She looked more like a newscaster that tells you about death and destruction with a gleam in her eye.
She is so patriotic it makes me gag. Patriotism like hers is a blind faith that leads to suffering and misery for many millions of people all over the world.

There are no teleprompters at the debate. On the other hand, she did a lot of reading from her prompt cards, which were on her lectern, whenever she was unsure of what to say, which happened quite a lot.

Look, I knew she'd do well to the "Joe Six-pack and Hockey mom" crowd that she clearly panders to. Where Biden excelled is not giving her the time of day and attacking McCain. She is not running for president and the Democratic strategy was to minimize her and focus on McCain's shortfalls.
It's about all they could do without Biden being accused of beating up on her.
It worked well enough. She's a parrot and nothing more. Just because she can wink at the camera and be the MILF that every mid-aged guy wants doesn't make her more credible.

Oh and Obama is experienced? What an idiotic statement. And as for Obama and "change" why did he choose a VP with over 30 years experience? Hmmm no change there. You really should raise your hand and request permission to speak.

She's the Mayor/Governor of Alaska. A state that is even connected to the rest of United States. I'm not picking sides. I'm for neither candidates. Shows what you know. Just because I commented on Palin doesn't mean I'm for Obama...

man they got CALLED OUT on not answering the questions the very first question.
and then they dodged every other friggin question.
personally, i don't like liars. or people who ignore big elephants in rooms. being genuine is very important in a leader for me..
therefore, i think they both failed miserably because they couldn't answer simple questions and read me a script.
tina fey can read a script too. and she's funny.
why do you think our interest isn't really in politics? - 3 years ago

I agree that Palin was playing up her "folksiness" and "likeability", and it was sickening. Why? Because that's BUSH. Folksy and likeable and dumb and dangerous.
And in terms of presence and delivery, Biden was strong, genuine, and behaved. His choke moment particularly gave him a new depth for me.

If it was another Miss Igloo Whale Princess of Wassilla pagent, she would have won handily. She definately succeded in stroking her own simple ego. Biden answered the questions.
Why did she even ask him if she could call him "Joe". She never used it. I'm puzzled.

well it was a clever thing to say.....and she did totally blow it by not capitalizing on it..........i am sure that it was something that the bush/mccain staff set up for her to say to try to level the playing field up front..........but then when she is thinking on her own.....whoops!!!!

I thought I heard her use it one time when she cut Biden off and said "Say it ain't so, Joe!" or something to that effect. But I agree, as soon as she said it, I felt ill in my stomach... it told me that all she was going to do was be hillbilly and down homey for the next 90 minutes... she did not dissapoint.

The Wasilla hillbilly spent almost the entire time in self aggrandizement and bragging about herself. At least we were spared the bridge lie.
Doesn't it bother good honest Republicans that both MyCane and the windup toy can do little else but waste our time with disingenuous falsehoods? It is such a discounting of the American people's intelligence.
How many times do they have to be caught lying to the American people before we are all turned off by the two of them?

Did ANYONE expect anything different from her? The entire country went into the debates feeling that if she did not have a complete meltdown, she would have done good!
Such lowered expectations in a time of national, international, economic and social crisis is a very sad reflection upon our culture.
This was a clear case of "Political Idol"... she was chosen to be cute and folksy, but if that bibmo winks at me one more time, I am going to slap the "I look smart, don't I?" glasses off her head...

oh i know!! i mean what does it say about our republican party when they say she "held her own"??????
that worries me that the dummying down of our culture (ie reality shows, tabloid crap) may actually have more of a hook into our culture than i thought!!!
i really thought that sooner or later the "glamour" would wear off this gal......but how do some of these supposed serious politians gratify her and still sleep at night...............have they not considered that she may be the one with the hand on the button someday??!!
would anyone really want her to be the one to make a decision like that????? - 3 years ago

People you are missing the point she was very attractive winking and smiling like that!! The pitch of her voice drives me crazy though (not in a good way). being an independent and having some conservative views I have to say.. Biden had more concrete examples and facts, yes he didn't address everything but at least when the topic was taxes he didn't talk about health care or energy. And no one can respond to me saying I'm wrong because I'm sexy!! (wink wink)

I think Michael Tomasky might even give her too much credit here. Personally, as a woman, Im offended by her continually acting cute to get away with not giving answers. You know who I was impressed with, Joe Biden. Because he gave answers and expanded on them with relevant information. It's not unattractive to be smart. As far as I'm concerned she plays into and promotes a negative image of women.

Palin is a windup toy that you can record and playback...but underneath I see her as wolverine chewing through her plywood cage. Russia suffered the German "Catherine the Great" and we have one coming down the pike. She is one scary lady.

Actually, Catherine the Great was and remains much loved and admired by the Russian people. She was a highly progressive monarch, did a lot to modernise Russia (following in Peter the Great's footsteps), and was the first world leader to abolish the death penalty. Empress Elisabeth made an excellent choice for Russia when she chose Catherine to marry her mentally retarded nephew so as to become the next ruler of Russia.
If you have to make any comparisons between Palin and Catherine the Great, Palin is a village idiot and Catherine the Great is a genius.

i am so glad some people are noticing that this was supposed to be about important questions and important answers!!!!
....even republicans admit that palin isn't prepared to co-anchor the country ………but they still they say they are impressed by her “folksiness and likeability” ???
holy cow!! are you kidding???
if anyone gives palin credit for a successful debate they are cheering her on for the wrong reasons!
this was a vice presidential debate not american idol!!!

Palin's reliance on the grand rhetorical gestures about energy, being at "the heart of america", and being a true patriot are becoming less and less effective, even to folks on the right. By not actually answering the questions last, Palin showed just how far your "morals" can get you in politics. Rather, she is not moral in any true sense of the word, but similar to the way we might say Gorge W. is moral. She believes in women's rights, but not their right to choose. It is justified though because it is what God would want her to do. BY allowing some misguided ideologies to overdetermine the way one leads, there is no room for change. Only more conservative stuborness, which Palin exemplified last night.

She said at the beginning that she was not going to answer the questions the way the moderator or Biden "wanted"...she repeated certain catch phrases, winked and smiled into the camera, and had her little "shout out" to the 3rd grade class in Alaska. She was trying to be cute and as a woman myself, it sickened me. She never answered a question directly and Biden did, period.

This is what annoyed me, Palin obviously was completely scripted and responded by hearing key words that made her give a little speech. But didn't we all know she would do that? Didn't the Obama camp know? Why did Biden let her do it her way without check? Was he so reined in that he was effectively made impotent? It was hard to watch...

She's a mediocre actress with exceptional memorization skills, period. She believes that she will preside OVER the Senate and House. I'm sure that every Speaker of the House, past and present, was shocked to learn that Mrs. Palin was rewriting the Constitution(with a little help from Dick Cheney). Biden out-classed her in every exchange.
