Albinos in Burundi flee killings

Four albinos were moved to a provincial centre on Thursday in Ruyigi, Burundi, where police were protecting them, the BBC's Prime Ndikumagenge reports.
Authorities have arrested six people in connection with the murder of an albino teenage girl in August.
The attacks follow the killing of 26 Tanzanian albinos in less than a year.
A BBC correspondent's investigation there revealed that witchdoctors were behind the killings.
They sought albino body parts for potions that they claimed could make people rich.
Two of the albinos killed in Burundi - a man and a teenage girl - were reportedly found dead with their legs and arms missing.
Police said the tip of the girl's tongue was also removed.
Neighbours of another teenage albino girl killed in Ruyigi in August chased away her attackers, six of whom were later apprehended as they came to retrieve her body parts.
They are said to have told police that they were planning to sell the body parts in Tanzania.
Our correspondent says that albinos in Burundi - estimated to number around 200 - are now living in fear for their lives.

i heard that Africa is still living in the past in some parts they slaughter twins saying that twins are evil and are cursed but i dont know how twins are treated in these parts but Africa should educate its pepole more and wake up to the fact that albinos are just normal pepole their the same as us or me and have no magic powers their just odenry pepole that have no pigment in their bodies due to a fauly gene and they should be left alone

Disgusting. The human mind truly IS a terrible thing to waste. Third world bullshit at the cost of yet more innocent lives.

Put Micheal Jackson in there as a rich and powerfull albino who has come from America put the curse of Hell on the witch doctors. Then stand back and watch the fireworks. Actually, it would never happen. In the real world, the African states, have, for long enough, wanted self rule without interference from the outside. Just look at the mess. At this rate, they will always be in the dark ages.

The cycle continues...the oppressed become oppressors there, the murdered now hold murderous stares, the pious damn the humble, unaware that in time we all take a tumble towards worldwide genocide, no place or palace with which to hide.
All in the name of prosperity.

Well, when we're a third-world country in a few years, I wonder if American Albinos should heading for tanning salons? We're circling the drain as a nation and as a human race.

so i found out that Tanzania and Burundi are at least top ten on some lists of third world countries.
Education is what i forgot to mention before as a problem because these witch doctors are killing on what i believe to be superstitious beliefs, not on actual scientific research. Not that it would still make it right if it could be proven, especially if it is to make people rich! - 3 years ago

I don't know much about tanzania or other african countries but i could take a risk and say its a third world country. These people don't live in the 21st century and that is why we still hear such crazy stories happening in this world. I'll look into the countries' standings and if i'm wrong I'll get back to you.

This is crazy! My best friend is albino and I wouldn't know what to do if something like this happened to her over non sense. Every witch doctor would meet their maker for real! Now how you like them apples.

The destiny of Albinos is the same in the whole Africa. Not only in Burundi. Salif Keita, a famous songwriter from Mali, talked about albino sad condition 20 years ago. The situation has not changed.

I just saw a block of films at the Great Lakes Film Independent Festival from the Burundi Film Center. They were all brilliant. These movies were no-budget gems. Burundi has a soul, I am sure that the people of this country will rise to the occasion and stop this madness.

This is absolutely terrible. The mere fact that this is still going on today, on the planet horrifies me. I cannot find a word to accurately describe the sorrow and pain I feel for people who are victums some of the atrocities that are taken place at this very moment.

Someone needs to take the witch doctors' arms and legs and see how they like it. Before the next idiot goes out and kills another human being, you'd think he'd do the research to find out if this stupidity actually works. I can almost guarantee it doesn't.

Neghie:
No neghie,,, he will not research it. Just as the tiger is supposed to pass his magic along to whoever uses his body parts or the rhino with his "horn", the albino human being must have a very powerful magic to be born without pigmentation. This is superstition not to be confused with alternative healing. I will guarantee that using albino people's body parts will by no means work.

kneecap,
That is a great observation, that I had not even thought about. That is what I call onpoint thinking. I guess it is double-trouble at the very least for albinos.
Good looking out dude. Keep it up.

This is sick!
It cost them more than an arm and leg to make someone else rich. Sounds like Wall Street to me. - 3 years ago

This reminds me of the Edinburgh body snatchers in the 18th century! It is horrifying! I cannot believe something like this is actually still happening!
