By any normal standard, including the ones applied to male presidential candidates of either party, she did not. Early on, she made the astonishing announcement that she had no intentions of actually answering the queries put to her. "I may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear, but I'm going to talk straight to the American people and let them know my track record also," she said.
And so she preceded, with an almost surreal disregard for the subjects she was supposed to be discussing, to unleash fusillades of scripted attack lines, platitudes, lies, gibberish and grating references to her own pseudo-folksy authenticity.
It was an appalling display. The only reason it was not widely described as such is that too many American pundits don't even try to judge the truth, wisdom or reasonableness of the political rhetoric they are paid to pronounce upon. Instead, they imagine themselves as interpreters of a mythical mass of "average Americans" who they both venerate and despise.

well, thank you for pushing us all back a few decades!! She's just paving the way for Bristol to run in a few years....
I do love the british take on all of this. Her qualifications and attitude would have her laughed out of any meeting with government officials or MP's on the other side of the pond. And misquoting Margaret Thatcher? priceless.

This bothered me mainly in the sense that she almost had to use her beauty to stimulate those watching her......going into her again, being a woman.
And the fact that she was robotic in the debate enhanced that stereotypical view of the female gender....a week prior she couldn't give you a name of a political magazine that she had read.
Another reason hilary never had a fighting chance....brains, NO brawn.
This is why I hate Sarah Palin, a rehearsed robotic bimbo.......that winks.

Palin had learned the few McCain campaign lines and her few stupid comments, and deliver them well, Why not she did study Journalism. The presentation and communication is part of it and that is all she knows. Why America talking and analyzing her is above Me., May be just for entertainment value. Do you understand why we are laughing stock in the world? We are electing calculated, money hungry and arrogant government, who try to imposed our culture on the world go to free (attract) some nation only if we see $ benefits, or if we know we will win.
How about electing government who diplomatic, smart, and humble and lead by example? We vote firstly for person who is cuter, better liar or use more scare tactics,
Who can BS more, has military experience, appropriate religion and can threaten the world more.
Not on intellectual capacity and diplomatic capability.
How about look some one with class, intellect, good temperament and with new policy ideas. - 3 years ago

The US has been on a downward track of dumbing itself to death. Good looks and personal charm have overtaken the criteria of well educated, informed and articulate for our national leaders. Imagine Sarah Palin writing and delivering the Gettysburg address. Our founding fathers and Lincoln must be turning summersalts in their graves right now. While we are having the most tragic self-imposed national financial failure, we have a national political party offering us Sarah Palin to be VP, next in line to be president. JohnA writes some more!
"I don't know everything that happens in other countries or why and I would never presume to tell them what is best for them. It is too much to ask that the people in my country be extended the same courtesy?"
You wouldn't be talking about Iraq, would you? Afghanistan perhaps? Pakistan by any chance? And how bout "bombombombing Iran"? You disagree with that, right?
You know, all those places where we're killing all those anarmed people because they aren't doing what we tell them to do. The countries McCain says - "You never tell them you're going to attack!"
You just do it.
No siree JohnA!
McCain or Palin would never dream of telling them what to do, or what God had to say about the righteousness of killing them, right?
But wait, you said up front that you totally disagree with anyone telling other countries "what is best for them."
That puts you in fundamental opposition to both Palin and McCain.

"When the moderater has a vested financial interest in the other candidate winning, it's probably wise to not adhere too closely to her line of questioning."
When the critic of the moderator realizes his winky candidate is losing the race due to lack of brain power and absence of credibility it's probably wise to not consider him inclined to be objective about the moderator.
I think the polls underscore the facts...

Yes, it was offensive. It has nothing at all to do with personality or charisma, neither of which she has. This chic is a fucking disgrace to all women, she is a mockery. This idiot has allowed herself to be used as the the instrument of her own misogynous induced demise.

Of course, winking excessively isn't going to make or break a candidate. But how seriously can we take her when she behaves like a cute little housewife stereotype? And for that matter, how seriously will foreign heads of state take her? She would absolutely not be respected as the President or Vice-President of our nation. Her behavior is screaming to us that she is better suited to host Tupperware parties or sell Avon door-to-door, than she is to be a politician on a national and international stage.

This is only interesting due to the fact that anyone takes this woman seriously! She is not what she seems and if she is then God help America and the rest of the world if McCain passes away!
She is another Bush-stupid, but street smarts and unwilling to listen and she wants to impose her religious viewpoints on the rest of us.
I resent it and the fact that McCain (who I used to respect) choose her-he had plenty of QUALIFIED and EXPERIENCED women to chose from.
Sorry after 8 years of the Bush/Cheney brigade if this woman is my Vp I will move away for though my heart will break, I can no longer say this is my country as well.

Funny you should ask -
Among the newest PR messages -
- never act defensively
- never worry too much about making precise statements
- never worry if the other side can discredit your statements,
- because media pitches are not the same as intellectual debate.
- because what is desired is that you look like something - not act like it.You win by being there, by looking good, by evading what you don't want to answer, by appearing positive and on-message, and by casting the other person as just too damned intelligent for just plain folks. Because nobody likes a smart ass. And that's the first thing to remind them by being cute..
"Kin I call ya, Joe, Joe?"
Will it work for the McCain campaign?
We'll see, won't we? The polling is still heading down on the McCain side.

I think it maybe an old beauty queen tactic offered up to the judges to get them to vote for her.
as in, hey judge, vote for me and you just might get lucky. Oh by the way, I think your kind of cute,
or at least I want you to think, I think your cute, so you will vote for me.after winning she knows the judge will be out of the picture. just something a beauty queen learns to do to get what she wants, my guess.
Maybe they think Joe Six Pack enjoys his potential V.P.'s to do a little flirting every 20 minutes or so, as a way to keep him interested in whatever she is saying.
Maybe her way to pull more of the male white VOTE to good old John. Keep in mind she hunts and can fish, so she is right up their alley. John knows what these old boys want. Plus he can sell them some more of his Wife's beer.
What a total bunch of PR suck ups to the Power Elite.
I am guessing John has learned to do it well, keeping his WIFE happy. Allowing him to be the dictator in his mind he always wished to be.
SAD DAY in America. And to think the Sheeple buy into this CRAP...

I have no doubt she is a big hit up in Alaska with that tactic, but hey they may go awhile up in the cold waiting to see any woman flirting with them, so what do you expect. my guess is she ran it by a few of her coaches and that ATE IT UP.

Hmmm...here's what the top internet search shows me for what Al Gore said:
The Bailout / Sellout Scheme
Posted September 23rd, 2008 by BLACK CELL
in* Democrat
* Social IssuesBail the home owners out, not the wall street execs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S27yitK32dsTHEY ALMOST PULLED A FAST ONE!! :-)
The bailout will force the feds to raise taxes, regardless of who becomes the next president.
The bailout will make Dems look as if they are full of $%@# when they say they represent the middle class.
The bailout will turn all your campaign promises into lies, because they won't have the money for the programs they promise.
The bailout will assure cuts in your favorite social programs.
The bailout will make Democrats look just as dumb just as they looked when they voted to invade Iraq.
You don't want to go through what Hillary went through when she didn't want to admit she was wrong for supporting the Iraq resolution.
If elected Democrat bailing out the wall street execs & sellout the home owners; you will earn the right to be in the minority.
The bailout will make sure a large number of Dems lose in Nov.
Let The Bush Crime Family have their dog & pony show for the wall street while you bail out the struggling home owners.
They are doing what Ronald Regan did when they ran up the deficit.
Thank God that the only bail out the Repubs are going to get is out of power in Nov.

I've dated too many beautiful women that are drunk on their own power too.
It does not make the foundation for would be back-up leader of the free world easily.
Do you think they want you or is it just subconscious lust?
Alright, I've found the solution.
For once it looks like Rosie O'Donnel? can do something to save the country.
Everyone imagine Sarah Palin looked like Rosie O'Donnel and then judge her behavior.
Ew...WTF right?
Do you really want "Caribou Barbie" on deck to run the country behind your granddad the war hero whose mindset might not be completely in the 21st century just yet?
When are we going to get some positive 21st century government?
Not even 2 years into the 21st century and 9/11 ruined the parade for everyone. From there it's just like being handed shit hand over first verbally as the picture of the future gets darker and darker to those that are forced to exist in it. Historically that has very clear limits right?
Freedom?
Freedom to believe your government isn't shady?
I don't like being forced to be labeled by the actions of people I don't agree with.
Hey, it's a free country, get used to it. Or, if you think it's in danger of not being free, then take action.
So far the whole "prison planet" theory hasn't proved more true than the Bible has it?
What do you mean? God asked me to ask that.
Hey, McCain, will you sell me some Oceanfront property in Arizona like Obama said he would?
If the people and system responsible for the failed policies are the same ones that designed and ran the flawed one into the ground with all the obviously not healthy perspective of the facts, then do you really think they are the ones you should send you friends to to fix it?
Do you want your friends to hate you?
There shouldn't be this much pressure on politicians in a non-broken system correct?
I'm just saying.
Then again, you must realize this venue was started by Al Gore, a relative hero politician.
Why haven't we heard from him on the bailout?
So there's a line there somewhere right?

well, Biden did say he wanted equal rights for all... he was adament about wanting the same rights married couples enjoy for gay couples and life partners. However you are right he said he was not for gay marriage which totally shocked me. Whether this was a ploy to try and retain some of the religious vote or what, I am not sure... but I was disappointed in that statement. I feel as though he could have been a lot more tactful regarding the subject. I was disapointed.

Standing ovation for the beautifully written article. What I don't understand is......why none of the talking head on CNN, Fox, etc. have expressed these same thoughts in a manner that really gets down to the bottom line about Palen's 'performance' last night. She does not represent the family at the dinner table, rather, she cheapens and undermines the needs of the family at the dinner table by using them in her 'performance'. And how do I know this? Her 'performance' was so bad, how could anyone NOT know this. She walked on stage and asked Biden in an intentionally loud voice if she could call him Joe. This was a set up for her later use of a cutesy rebuke. Her performance was so transparent, badly delivered and not believable!!!!! How could anyone give her credit for other than winkin' and noddin'.

Yeah--and she never once called him Joe through out the debate--yet another political ploy-just like McCain picking her for the VP spot in the first place.
I can hear it now--'Ya know-Clinton had all that womeny support--lets pick Palin an really throw them Dems off their game----what? She has no experience and no brain-aww well--just makes a clean slate to work with' - 3 years ago

I'm sorry...Keith Olberman just read the guy from the National Review's "soft porn" analysis of Sarah Palin's performance during the debate.
First sign the end it near---the sheep are willing to elect tits and ass to run the country.
Celebrity has destroyed our society to the very core of one moment from the bully pulpit. I mean, I know Ronald Reagan was an actor, but why are they starting to quote him?
Hey, he's warning us about Socialism like it's Communism or something. Oh, the scary terrorists and failing economy, well, didn't you see the pie in the face fight on TV?
I want a refund.
Has it always been this way?
Can I call you Joe?
Joe, don't you feel like you're arguing one of your daughter's overachieving cheerleader friends?
But, repeat after me, n u c u l u r, weapons
Please tell me someone else with a lot more brains is really the nonsense behind the scenes like Santa Claus high on his own power.
We see a lot of those on TV these days don't we?
All it takes is a politically motivated God complex and boom you're on the sir like it's actually true causing a weird psychosis. I'm pissed off. I want to file a class action lawsuit against the government for emotional distress. They are ruining my one and only known shot at life with all their negative policy making and it is getting really old.
I had a funny analogy last night...
Anyone wanna hear it?

Oh Sarah, who do you know to get to the point you're at?
Typical Corporate bullshit. You are not qualified to be VP of the US and thank goodness the public sees it.
You have cost your candidate the Presidential election.
Thank goodness again. Republicans do not care about middle america and it is their greed that has put this country into the position it is in today.
Go back to Alaska soon! You are insulting to women who have strived for so many years to get to the where they are.

You should worry about racism in your own country, Vierotchka. I read where the skinheads are out of control in Russia.

JohnA, you don't even know what is my country. In my country, there are very few skinheads, and they are so insignificant that we hardly ever see them or hear of them - they are as far from being in control as can be.

I know what country you favor in every single post. It's not that hard to figure out Vierotchka. Anyone that tries to argue that Putin is not running Russia because he is no longer President is obviously biased. Everyone with half a brain knows Putin still holds the reins of power in Russia.
