Palin says Obama 'palling around' with terrorists

Palin's reference was to Bill Ayers, one of the founders of the group the Weather Underground. Its members took credit for bombings, including nonfatal explosions at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol, during the Vietnam War era.
While Obama and Ayers live in the same Chicago neighborhood, served on two boards and had at least one political connection, it is a stretch of any reading of the public record to say the pair ever palled around. And it's simply wrong to suggest that they were associated while Ayers was committing terrorist acts.
The Republican campaign, falling behind Obama in polls, plans to make attacks on Obama's character a centerpiece of candidate John McCain's message in the final weeks of the presidential race. Coming late in the campaign, Palin's remark could be particularly incendiary, however, and could knock Obama off his focus on the troubled economy."

The Republicans are the ones who are being terror-mongers. They justify taking away rights based on this scare tactic. Shame on Palin for stepping in line to try and scare the American people. Most Americans are fed up with boogie-man politics! I don't think it works anymore...esp. considering the source.

The only "hate fest" that seems to be going on, is the one the Republicans are currently trying initiate. They are indeed, still utilizing the "Rove method" of character bashing, insinuation, and down-right lies, in a pathetic attempt to do something, ANYTHING, to get back on track in the polls. The fact that they're trailing almost everywhere must be making them crazy, and just watch - as they continue to sink farther and farther in public opinion, the nastier and more desperate they will become. They still just don't get it - we are done with them -over, kaput, no more! The American people have had enough, and I for one, cannot wait for these mean-spirited, smirking, condescending, arrogant bullies to go away!

Okay I'm surprised the news media even revealed all this was a lie this morning (like we couldn't already tell. )It is almost embarassing that she could get us all worked up with her comments but, I think our fear (after the example of the last 8 yrs.) is that people will believe anything out of the mouth of a serpent during election periods ! Yes, Oprah is pretty awesome with her Eckhart Tolle isn't she (why isn't she Obama's running mate ? lol) Get real , this election isn't about Black man , White woman or Oprah it is about looking at your family and deciding if your tired of arrogance as an example of a leadership role is what we want our children to grow up learning ! Can't you see that it matters that there are single mothers out there staying up day and night in fear of not being able to support their children or elderly men and women doing without their basic needs , choosing between medicine and dinner ! It is really sad this is happening while the republicans are gut punching Obama (who is true to compassion weather muslim ,black, jew, or anything else ) I don't think Oprah brainwashing is at question it is the cold heartedness of the republican brainwashing that is hurting us ! I am a white woman who thinks alot of people who have mistreated a black person or hispanic person or anyone else is voting in this election , why else would you be cold hearted enough to buy into the fear of terrorism the republican campaign is dishing out ? A guilty dog barks !

It's about time someone started telling the truth about Comrade Obama.
The Democrats have been running against Bush in this elections and counting on real and imagined association between McCain and Bush to further the chances of Obama. Obama has associations with terrorists in his recent background and in the formation of his political life. These friendships with people who wish to destroy this country should be brought to light and talked about especially concerning someone running for the office of the presidency.
This is just one more reason that Obama is dangerous to America and the Constitution. We don't need someone like Obama in the White House. - 3 years ago

Even if McCain is not exactly like Bush, one thing that can't be denied is that after Bush's henchmen in 2000 tore apart McCain in the primaries with their dirty tricks and falsehoods he came back to support Bush.
It's insane, McCain has no self respect. Carl Rove as it seems no one recalls, circulated rumors that McCain had a illegitimate child with a black women.

"American exceptionalism (cf. "exceptionalism") refers to the belief that the United States differs qualitatively from other developed nations, because of its national credo, historical evolution, or distinctive political and religious institutions.
Certain persons view American exceptionalism as a product of veiled nationalistic chauvinism. The term can also be used in a negative sense by critics of American policies to refer to a willful nationalistic ignorance of faults committed by the American government."

The Republicans seem to be taking the Rovian tactic of appealing to a person via character and insinuation rather than using facts to point out faults. It worked amazingly well with the Bush campaigns, where they put a lie out there, and regardless of whether or not it was proven false, it was cemented in the psyche of the average American, coloring their vote. Americans always, in the end, vote their gut. Sometimes their gut is shaped by facts and logic, sometimes its only peppered with the realities of Washington and more of it relies on what they believe is good moral fiber, character, and who they "like", which most of the time hasn't got a damn thing to do with the issues facing the country. Republicans are counting on a relatively high proportion of American's gut instinct being moulded by their first reaction to the candidates, and pushing a few lies to solidify a bad image, no matter how false, has never been above them. I'd expect no less from Ms Palin, for that is the position she's been put into and seems to be relishing the role. I'm just so sick of her shrill, condescending voice that I'd happily throttle her with my bare hands if put in a room alone with her for five minutes...

If she just wants to stir shit, why not talk about her last baby born after the oldest daughter missed five months of school for mono, out of town at her Aunts house. Then how she gave birth without ever appearing pregnant. I' ve seen a Sarah pregnant picture with her stomach needing clearance lights.
Lets talk about her extra marital affair. Let' s talk about her kids running amok and using all kinds of drugs. Lets talk about her abuse of power investigation. Let' s talk about her big savings account and half a million dollar house when they make piss poor wages. Where did that come from? What about her church and the preacher that caused a woman he identified as a witch to be stoned. She has opened herself up to lots of questions. It' s going to take more than a few winks to shut that stuff up.

Ok based on your logic..
Osama Bin Laden 20 years from now is running a foundation or teaching in a mosque and you decide to affiliate yourself with him since he seems like nice community organizer who has not killed anyone lately,,,, but you then you decide to run for public office and say well i was only 8 when Osama bin Laden did those things,,,,he is just a guy in my neighborhood that i started my political carreer with at his house.... so what i was on his foundation board and became the head of that foundation my political opponents should not bring this up...it is not fair...You're a joke

I think it is rediculous how the republican party is running their campaign . Republicans are so transparent in their tactics against Obama ( they obviously feel beneath or less than Obama because, if they didn't they wouldn't be casting such low blows .) Only someone with an ego equal to McCain would buy what his party is selling about Obama . The republican party in this election have become so generic and it is obvious . Come on just the idea of McCain choosing a woman as a running mate is so silly ! At least Obama didn't choose a woman to make history , he chose the best man for the job wich is very commendable , especially in this election in wich it seems some Americans seem to be voting for what the superficial surface shows than the real issues of people starving and young people dying in a war in wich we really don't understand what they are fighting for ! You do not see Obama acting out in rage or overly defensive of his status as a Christian wich shows he isn't a liar ! Liars flip out when exposed ! Now the republican party on the other hand, are going to any length to tear Obama apart (I think anyone who can read someone's actions will know the truth .)

Yeah, and apparently it's going to be getting worse.
An Obama spokesperson responded to Palin's comments by saying:
"Governor Palin’s comments, while offensive, are not surprising, given the McCain campaign’s statement this morning that they would be launching Swiftboat-like attacks in hopes of deflecting attention from the nation’s economic ills. In fact, the very newspaper story Governor Palin cited in hurling her shameless attack made clear that Senator Obama is not close to Bill Ayers, much less ‘pals,’ and that he has strongly condemned the despicable acts Ayers committed 40 years ago, when Obama was eight."So, that might be McCain's plan from here on out. It could make the debates a little more interesting if McCain gets called on it.

Here's the context of her statement, from the NYTimes:
“There is a lot of interest, I guess, in what I read and what I’ve read lately. Well, I was reading my copy of today’s New York Times and I was interested to read about Barack’s friends from Chicago.
“I get to bring this up not to pick a fight, but it was there in the New York Times, so we are gonna talk about it. Turns out one of Barack’s earliest supporters is a man who, according to the New York Times, and they are hardly ever wrong, was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that quote launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and US Capitol. Wow. These are the same guys who think patriotism is paying higher taxes.
“This is not a man who sees America as you see it and how I see America. We see America as the greatest force for good in this world. If we can be that beacon of light and hope for others who seek freedom and democracy and can live in a country that would allow intolerance in the equal rights that again our military men and women fight for and die for for all of us. Our opponent though, is someone who sees America it seems as being so imperfect that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country?”
