CBS News has learned that two donors to the Obama campaign that gave a total of $7,722 appear to have made their contributions under fake names that look like they were written by a mouse running across a keyboard: Dahsudhu Hdusahfd of Df, Hawaii with the following employer CZXVC/ZXVZXV and Uadhshgu Hduadh listed as living in Dhff, Florida listed their employer as DASADA/SAFASF.

CBS News did not find any records of these last names, towns or employers anywhere else. Newsweek reported two questionable Obama donors over the weekend named “Doodad Pro” and “Good Will”.

Contributions from the two donors Hdusahfd and Hduadh were made on the same day starting on July 16, 2008. Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show the campaign began refunding the donations as early as August 6, 2008.

Despite numerous refunds from the Obama campaign, Hdusahfd still has a record of giving a total of $7500 to Obama which is well over the legal limit for the primary and general election of $4600. Hduadh gave $14,200 but the Obama campaign returned all but $222.00.

The Obama campaign says “out of an abundance of caution” all of these donations are in the process of being returned.

Obama spokesperson Bill Burton sent CBS News the following email statement, “We constantly review our donors for any issues and while no organization is completely protected from internet fraud, we will continue to review our fundraising procedures to ensure that we are taking every available step to root-out improper contributions.” Burton pointed to Harry Sargeant, one of McCain’s donors who is now the subject of a Congressional investigation. McCain returned $50,000 to Sargeant in early August.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has asked the FEC to look into foreign donations to the Obama campaign. The FEC told CBS News they would not comment on the RNC’s complaint.

Other donors who gave over the legal limit to the Obama campaign contacted by CBS News said their money was refunded promptly by the campaign. Of those who spoke to CBS News, it seems their only mistake was that of enthusiasm.

Felicity Nitz, 60, of Brooklyn says she kept on clicking on Obama’s online fundraising appeals, “I just kept punching it when I got the emails,” she said, “I’m an insane supporter.”

Christian Skeem from Chicago says he got a letter back from the campaign with a check, “I couldn’t give them more than the limit because they kept sending it back, it wasn’t like they weren’t on the ball.” The reason he gave so much? “Cause I’m a fan,” he said.

    • I think it's funny that people are blaming Obama for this. Anyone, literally ANYONE, can go to Obama's website, and attempt to give an online donation. And part of what you have to fill in is your name, where you're from, who you work for, etc., so they can make sure that these donations are legal.

All you anti-Obama people, you can do that right now. Anyone can do it. Obama has no say in how people fill out the forms on his website.

THe only thing HE has a say in, is whether or not to ACCEPT a donation that seems sketchy, and as the Obama camp clearly illustrates, now that the issue has made it off the computer, and into the hands of a human being who can address the problem, they are REFUNDING ALL of these donations, not accepting them.

So, what did Obama do wrong here? Set up a website that allows donations? Anyone can do the same thing on McCain's website, and then you would all have to be up in arms about the fact that someone filled out a McCain donation form fraudulently.

It's amazing how people try and draw attention away from the candidates and their values, and try and do this guilt-by-association thing. If that were valid, the entire American public would be guilty for not impeaching Bush when he lied to us about Iraq.

    • What I like is the fact that ACORN is now being investigated for voter fraud in 10 states. Wasnt one of the candidates actually an instructor for Acorn?

    • So Americans are bleeding and so broke they can't make the mortgage payment but they find almost a BILLION $s to donate to Obama's campaign. Seems odd to me. I think that the Primary should cap at no more than $15 million and the General election should be capped at $25 million. If a person can't win on those budgets; how will they ever balance the Nation's?

    • Obama hired Los Angeles Based Co. Donor Services Group who has a call center in Philiipines to raise his funds for him. HE IS OUTSOURCING HIS FUNDRAISING! And no one seems to care!

i received a car magnet from obama, after donating to his campaign, and it was marked clearly 'Made in the USA.'

    • I'm lost - Obama has refused DNC money, but McCain has gleefully accepted RNC funding. Obama is still limited to a ceiling of funding capability, where McCain is essentially dipping from two pots? Maybe I'm wrong here, but doesn't that mean that the Republican candidate has a distinct advantage here? Or are they calling that a 'handicap'?

I'm not an expert on campaign funding... but if there is a limit on how much a candidate can bring in, and Obama refused DNC money, A logical conclusion would be that Obama had private funding galore. And would have to return money given to him? So he would rather the money go to other demo's also running for offices?

If the same rule applies, there is a maximum amount that a candidate is aloud to acquire during an election, this means that McCain did not solicit as many wealthy donors as Obama did. So to meet the "amount" he needs both kinds of money.

    • Just because someone has the name Hussein does not make them a terrorist no more that a person with the Jones or Smith are hiding their real id. THose two guys may of made a donation not because they like Obama but they are afraid that McSame if elected will bomb their country. It was McSame weeks ago who said on TV that there will be more wars and that he warned mothers their sons will have to go fight. He even mentioned returning the draft. If I lived in the Middle East I be concerned to about his winning.

If you don't realize it "McSame" is insulting.
Besides don't you stop name calling when you are like 8? or if you are a boy, maybe 10?

McCain's views are pretty different from President Bush's. Take the time and check it out before jumping on the band wagon... unless you are a lemming.

ignoring countries that are pissed at us for the last 8 years will not solve anything. mccain's plan is to 'bomb iran' and stay in iraq for 100+ years. at least obama is willing to try to do something to save the US's reputation in the world.

mccain's plan doesn't sound like foreign relations at all. more like foreign retaliation.

None of that is in McCain's plan. If you think it is, then you are brainwashed and I feel sorry for you.

And to a dictator of a little impudent country that wants to be a world superpower, yeah they want Obama in office so they can make him his personal Bitch, and thus become greater. (sorry, but think about it.) They danced in the streets when Clinton was president too.

    • how bizarre. Sounds like they weren't really even trying to sound believable. Though I'd laugh if a real poor Mr Hdusahfd and Hduadh turned up..

I bet this is just gonna make more xenophobic Republicans accuse Obama of being allied with foreigners...
