McCain's poll standing has gone down with the stock market

JoanWalsh
At the same time, the moral standing of his campaign is headed in the same direction.

    • When McCain uses incindiary tatics through innuendo and inference against his opponent,
then, McCain, himself is engaging in a form of terrorism.
When McCain/Palin politics of fear has members
of a rally shouting threats against their opponent
and they do or say nothing, then in my mind,
McCain becomes complicit in his inaction.

And as far as Palin, goes....well, she herself
said she represents Joe six-pack and the NRA.
If those are her constituents, and with her rhetoric
of hate and fear....is she stupid, niave, or what?

I mean, it sounds to me like McCain and
Palin are spreading terror. When they speak
of terrorism, they need look no further than
      themselves.

    • Need help, please clear this simple idem up! Sarah Palin often answers critics of recent Republican policy for looking back. Their you go looking back we want to look forward. So the riddle is why is the McCain Palin team looking way back to the 1960's, back to a time when Barack was just a boy

hmm.. not much of a riddle..

I don't understand why the Obama camp has made this a talking point. Republicans are NOT looking back to a time when Obama was a boy. (arrgghh) They are talking about when Obama was in charge of a 50 million dollar trust which was supposed to deal with Education in illinois. He worked WITH Ayers on that and distributed money to small groups of "community organizers" .. I am not sure if any actually go into the schools.
They are also curious about other associations with Ayers such as events at this home for Obama.

By their logic the fact that someone was only 8 when Jeffery Dawmer ate up his buddies would make it perfectly ok to run a butcher shop with him today.

I think these are relevant questions because , just as Obama did with Wright, he is conveniently playing dumb on this one too..

He says he though Ayers had been rehabilitated.
He claimed he had no knowledge of the divisive , racist views of his so called pastor.

This is no different than any campaign. It's all fair game when real people are involved. Ayers is a real person.. a tragic, negative result if the 60's. His trial ended on a technicality and now he's teaching at an American university. I find it appalling actually. But that's fair and I can't do anything about it. I can however, question the judgment of a candidate who is involved with a character like that.

    • The "slash and Burn, Buy and Lie our way to victory" tactics so effectively employed by
political strategist Rove in the two Bush power grabs is now so obviously present in the "bottom feeder"
character of McCain's desperate endgame as employed by Rove's junior wanna-be, STEVE SCHMIDT.
Schmidt,.. eagle scout, high school- football -New Jerseyboy found his career and political home with
      Rove and the Bush administration.
Smell something familiar in the air? That would be
Eau de Rove as worn by Steve Schmidt.
A serious pollutant in any sphere. Effective? Yes.
Toxic? Yes. Let's call the brand what it is.
      Steve Schmidt. (Rhymes with.............?)

    • The anger you speak of.. largely another media fabrication. However the REASON McCain supporters are pissed is because of the MSM carrying Obama's water and being completely in the tank for him
. The MSM has abandoned any idea of fairness and is blatantly trying to get Obama elected. You can't do that without making a lot of people angry as hell.

You know.. I hear AD NAUSEUM how the media scolded itself for following Bush into war without ever asking questions..

They are doing the same thing with Obama and AMERICA should be angry as hell about it.

And now.. after creating this frustration in the first place the media is trying to build it up into a problem which McCain has caused. They are trying to paint him as a white Farrakhan but they are the ones behind this, including Current, and you should all be a LOT more skeptical about it.

If there is anger to the extent the media would have you believe, which I think is a bit puffed up BY the media, it is because these people feel that the bias in the media is drowning out their voices and not reflecting how people actually feel. Tilted polls, biased networks like NBC, and uneven coverage of the good AND the bad in each party drives the anger. I am sure that if things were a bit more fair Obama would probably have more people on his side actually.. It's an odd thing to watch.

Interesting that you would pick NBC as the network exhibiting bias. At least they have Joe Scarborough, Mica Brzezinski, Pat Buchanan, and other conservative commentators. They are open to and courteous with guests of all points of view. Can you name even one token liberal on Fox? Have you ever seen anyone angrier or fanning the flames more than Bill O'Reilly, e.g. his interview of Barney Frank? Have you ever seen anyone so devoid of the need to factually support his assertions than Sean Hannity? That network is out of control.

      >>Interesting that you would pick NBC as the network exhibiting bias.

Excessive, Extreme BIAS. From Olbermann to Maddow3.. from ERR Amerika of all places.. And Chris Mathews? With the feeling in is thinghs from Obama? Come on.. ?

      >> At least they have Joe Scarborough, Mica Brzezinski, Pat Buchanan,

      >>Mika? Are you serious? I am laughing here..
Can you name even one token liberal on Fox?

Ahh another person who never watches fox.. let's see

      Bob Beckel DEM Strategist
      Juan Williams (NPR)
      Allen Colmes (IDIOT)
      Susan Estridge (IDIOT.. Regular commentator)
      Lanny Davis..
      Mara Liasson (NPR)

These are regulars and there are many more//

There are FAR more liberal voices on Fox than actual conservative voices on MSNBC. But MSNBC is prone to lie and lie and lie..

As for OReilly's interview of that complete idiot Barney Frank.. I don't think he was harsh enough on that asshole. He is a deranged fool and shouold be thrown out.

At the moment FOX is the ONLY group reporting on the charges against ACORN in what.. 12 states?

Why is that? I watched a HEARING on ACORN this morning in Ohio.. no other network covered it.,,,
IT IS GOING ON NOW AS I TYPE THIS.. WE WON'T SEE IT ON CURRENT EITHER.

You have to watch Fox to be able to make comments on it., FOX hasn't had to RETRACT its anchors from anything because of BIAS and infighting as MSNBC had to do with Mathews and Olbermann,

It is clear that liberals feel free to bash fox without knowing anything about it. I w2atch it ALL .. including Current.. which at the moment reminds me of Nickelodeon.

    • Rally to Riot
This is the perfect storm in America… economic crises, home foreclosures, 9/11. A perfect time for Americans to coalesce rather than a perfect time to attack each other. If one watches the McCain/Palin rallies, it is the perfect time to attack others. Attack whom?... Obama… terrorist, traitor, kill him, off with his head, Arab, Muslin, un-American! The genie is out of the bottle McCain and Palin and nothing you can do will put it back in. This is the America of promise not purge. American ideals are the gifts to the world, but now who will listen? The world sees us as fear mongering, hateful mobs going to political rallies with venom as we saw prior to WWII. We must never forget the past journey of our world. Your vitriol spills over into all groups of ethnic origin, “the different ones”. I once respected John McCain and now I feel both he and Palin should be brought up on charges of incitement to riot. We must call them to task for this despicable behavior. It is not the Democrat nor Republican thing to do; it is the American thing to do. If one person is injured with this populist rage, I put it at your feet, McCain and Palin. At a time when the world is looking to America, here is our pitiful example of democracy in action. Winning at all cost is not putting country first. I am saddened! I want my America back, the America that I grew to love as a youth. The America my father fought for in WWII. The one that makes us all stand proudly together and say, “My country tis of thee, sweet land of liberty.”

    • Regarding the AMEX ad.. it is pretty poor form but the content of this video FAR exceeds any implied bias in that ad. This woman has let her anger affect her personality. She looks angry and ugly.

    • I just had to make a comment on the technical quality of the video -- that background music *has* to go. It's waaaay too loud and the electronic drum beats and other effects just sound like crackling static. You shouldn't even need a sound engineer to realize and prevent that from happening.

    • I am appalled that a channel that prides itself on free information is allowing someone like this woman from Salon to propagandize on this blog and on TV. Who is she? Is she like.. the evil mother figure? This woman is so biased , she so unprofessional that it hurts to watch her. I may vote for Obama but NOT because of tramps like this. Excuse me but I am responding in kind to the trash she offers. It is discouraging to say the least. When people look at what the information stream is here at current they are apt to ignore it because of this kind of poor form.

    • McCain and Palin succeeded in scaring me alright; I'm scared to death if McCain wins. I've been beyond horrified to see the depths they've gone to for lack of an option. I don't consider that an option. It always frightens and amazes me when such ignorance as was exposed when audience members yell out stupid, stupid lines such as 'He's an Arab!' What?? McCain is done in my estimation for all intents and purposes and needs to retire to the old folks home now and Palin needs to return to Alaska and face the music of the concert she's created for herself with her lies and
bad deeds and overeaching. I'm sure Alaskans can find a more suitable Governor.

    • Well, here are the facts that don't fit in a sound bite: Barack Obama met William Ayers at a luncheon meeting on school reform. Barack Obama was invited to participate on the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge -- a project funded by the conservative Annenberg Foundation to reform public education. and in that capacity he met William Ayers, a Distinguished Professor of Education at the University of Illinois who, with two others, wrote the grant proposal. He later served on another board with Ayers on the board of the Woods Fund, an anti-poverty group in Chicago. In 1995, Ayers hosted "a coffee" for "Mr. Obama's first run for office.

This is what Sarah Palin calls "palling around with a terrorist." She claims that his statement that, when he found out about Ayers' past, he assumed he was rehabilitated, is a lie.

If you met someone in the context described, wouldn't you immediately assume it was a pretty good person? Wouldn't you be surprised that he was a radical in the 60's?

What is Sarah Palin's proof that Obama lied about this?

"from what I have researched, he is a man that we wouldn't want our president buddying up with. Obama is clearly not being truthful about his ties to Aires."

It sounds as though your "research" consists of listening to Sarah Palin. If you had actually read anything about him, you might have learned to spell his name. What is it, exactly, that you think he's lying about, and what evidence can you back it up with?

    • Why the free ride from the media?

Joan, it is a sad day when media doesn't do it's job of fact finding but instead accuses the side it doesn't agree on is simply slinging mud. There might be some truth to this but what about finding out about the truth about what McCain is saying. Bill Ayres is before my time but from what I have researched, he is a man that we wouldn't want our president buddying up with. Obama is clearly not being truthful about his ties to Ayres.

McCain should not be the one pointing this out. The media should have researched this before the McCain campaign brought it to our attention. But Obama as usually is simply getting a free ride by the media.

I love the interview of CNN with Hugh Hewitt. Ending the interview not answering Hugh's simple question.

McCain is not a favorite choice of mine. He is a typical politician. We need a true leader right now in these difficult times but comparing him to Obama, I would have to go with McCain. Obama scares me to death. His Marxist views on redistributing the wealth and socialist views thinking that the government is the solution to all problems should scare everyone away from Obama. However he tells every group just what they want to hear, and as lemmings we the people simply follow.

It is a sad day indeed.

      Sir,
what do you know about Marxism ? Mr.Obama isn't a Marxist. You have more minimum wages in the US than we do here. As for redistributing wealth, by the looks of things your greedy Bankers and Mortgage Lenders have made a good job of making sure there isn't much wealth left to redistribute. I agree a little about the media giving Obama a good time, but its not just the US Media, look at the english and foreign language newspapers. Mr. McCain and his running mate aren't make much of an impression on our media either.

    • Even as John McCain urges his minions to be fearful of Obama, his tactics and his supporters' reactions make me fearful of what our country is becoming.

I remember being hopeful, when John McCain got the nomination, that we had a chance of this being a civil campaign. However, in the McCain vocabulary, "insight" has been cheaply bartered for "incite." What is the fate of a society that loses civility?

The McCain camp is dangerous, not only because of its meandering, self-contradicting certitudes, but even more for its complete willingness to bend or wholly invent truth as an expedient to victory.
