106-year-old voter chooses Obama

Sister Cecilia Gaudette, who last voted for President Eisenhower in 1952, has registered to vote and says she will vote for Democrat Barack Obama.
Although hard of hearing, she keeps herself informed by reading newspapers and watching TV at the convent.
"I'm encouraged by Senator Obama," she says.
"I've never met him, but he seems to be a good man with a good private life. That's the first thing. Then he must be able to govern," she adds.
Sitting in her modest office in the convent where she has lived for the past 50 years, the diminutive nun appears uninterested in the row inside the American Catholic church over Senator Obama's support for pro-choice policies on abortion.
Asked about her hopes for the US under an Obama presidency, she says: "Peace abroad. I don't worry about the Iraq war because I can't do anything about it. Lord knows how it will end."
"It is very complicated," she said. "Those Eastern people are not like we are."
But despite taking part in the 4 November election, Sister Cecilia does not intend to return to the US.
"I have no plans for the future. I am too old to go back to the US. Life has changed too much."
But she still watches "very important events" on TV. The election comes under this category.

don't buy the T shirt, one guy already because he had on one. find others ways to support. Consider a neighborhood rally, help people who do not have transportation and may need a ride to the polls on that day or during early voting. Just form groups and go door to door asking if they need assistance or a ride to the poll.
I am still worried about that soccerchick, who still thinks that slavery is active in this country. Will someone please tell her old abe freed us some years ago, and boss, it was hard on us and it still is
Perhaps she is right maybe where she is from.
We as a people are still enslaved by many things and if mccon and plain get in there they start it all over again. You the other, that one, why not just come one out and say BOY.
now let's change the subject and talk about another joke called FEMA.

Even a 106 year old Nun can make a wrong decision. It isnt the years that make one intelligent, it is what one does and learns in those 106 years. As a Nun living in a convent she is not living under the same roof as we and exposed to that which we are.

All those retired folks in Florida http://republicans-exposed.blogspot.com/2008/10/mccain-palin-double-talk-express... that can seem to make up their minds should take a cue from this Sister. If you are looking for experience, then you can't get more experience than being on this planet for 106-years.
Congratulations, Sister enjoy the remainder of your "borrowed days" - hope God will give me a few just like he gave you.

To say that McCain doesn't transcend voter stereotypes is ignorance by choice. Just because something isn't being reported doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Every candidate will always transcend voter stereotypes. Here are a few examples.

If most people would be like her then we would not have such contempt of an opposite political party. We would just all vote for the best person for the job.

This is one voter; this shows nothing about the diverse groups of people voting for Obama because this is just one person.
And for those of you saying wisdom comes with age and that her voice should be more valued than others because of her age should consider who her age group is voting for. And maybe that means McCain should take the office because of his infinite wisdom at 72 years of age.

It is "ONE person." But it is alll the different "one persons" that Obama has attracted that makes it interesting. I havent heard about McCain attracting a bunch of different "one persons." In fact, Ive heard more about him and Palin alienating them.
Its just interesting that so different people find commonalities in Obama. The question is, why is that so? And If its evident in McCain too, why isn't that being reported?

Again this is one voter; there is no doubt McCain would be able to attract at least one person from each voter group.

I did sort of say it didnt exist with McCain. That is my bad. But I also said its interesting that it isnt being reported. I don't see articles about McCain transcending stuff on Current. I see articles about him and Palin alienating people. Maybe that speaks volumes of Current more than it does anything else.
Youre right. Every candidate will always transcend. I didn't effectively communicate my point. My point wasnt that McCain isnt doing the same thing. Current is overwhelmingly liberal...which I is why more people here would care more about Obamas attraction to the masses than McCains. It is one person.

It's true, not ALL Christians are for McCain. It really says something that someone who's been around for so long is making a decision like this! And I agree wholeheartedly with jessdean, wisdom DOES indeed come with age.

Good values to judge your candidate by ... good man, good private life, ability to govern. What are the values with which you compare your candidate to? Obama is the one to govern and lead us into tomorrow. McCain lives in yesterday lost and confused about tomorrow unable to accept it has been under his governing and leadership (26 yrs worth) we are where we are today. So each of us must do our part and vote.

Hmm...I was commenting on the fact that this woman is seeing past the color of Obama's skin and allowing what he stands for to influence her vote. I'd assume it would be difficult for someone who has grown up in an era of black oppression to overcome stereotypical thinking.
