7-election

Image
Tori
Seven-Eleven is again conducting polls to see who the next president of the United States will be, allowing customers to "vote" for the candidate of their choosing via their selection of coffee cup.

The results page shows some unlikely results (for example, Texas is blue for Obama right now), but the page brags that it predicted the last two elections accurately - they had George Bush trumping Al Gore by 1% and John Kerry by 2%, which was just about right...

Not a big drip coffee fan, but I'm feeling like I want to get out there and buy some coffee to show my support!

    • Would you have to get one of each to be politically correct? (laughs and smiles)
That's alot of stuff to drink. Hey but you do what you have to do, right?

They should have a program for buying discount politically-charged water. For the people that can't afford or hate coffee.

Just bring in your last 3 years of income tax records, and if your income is under 15k per year, you should be set, right? Too rich for food stamps, too poor for coffee.

    • Well, I don't drink much coffee so this doesn't really appeal to me. Also, I can't imagine it being very accurate for many reasons stated here.

P.S.- The write-in cup is a good idea.

    • Ugh. Third-party people can be quiet.
The fact of the matter is: you're wasting your vote. The chance of an Independent party winning so low that it's ridiculous. Instead of wasting your vote on someone that has such a small chance of winning, you can put it towards one of the two that honestly have a fighting chance that match your vote the best, and do your political ideas some good.

If people hadn't given 20% of votes to Nadar in 2004 and went with Gore who had similar beliefs, then we wouldn't have the fucker in office we have now.

      Anyway, about this...

Let's pray to God they're right again!

The problem with 3rd party voters is not that they have a small chance of winning. The problem is they do not have the exposure to bring in more voters, and that is a direct causality of bi-partisan politics.

There are 6 parties in the American electoral system, but people are only given two choices between Republicans and Democrats. Perhaps if people did more research on third parties and were not afraid of "wasting a vote" then third parties would have a viable chance at becoming competitors in the electoral races.

This is a problem because the American people should not be forced into voting one way or another. Two choices is not much of a choice at all, but six choices guarantees the rotation of power between multiple parties and therefore decreases the chance of corruption. Two parties can just rotate the power amongst themselves and eventually collaberate together for corruption. Americans deserve more choices than "vote A or B".

At the heart of the matter, people will vote for whichever candidate they want for president and that is their right as Americans.

    • You can only vote once. You can buy coffee way more than once. I see some flaws in it. Only time will tell if their predictions are correct.

    • How about a write in cup? What if you are freethinker who doesn't intend to vote for either of them? This is only a way for 7-11 to make a profit off of coffee which by the way harms the environment. How much water does 7-11 waste making it all? Amazing what people think is important. If this had been about real issues it would have fallen into the abyss by now.

I'm a freethinker who is excited about voting for Obama. I don't think we should generalize people just because YOU don't like the candidates. I like how in your comment you think you know what "freethinkers" should think and what issues they should talk about. Thats not very free is it? Thats just the same old, lock step, far left rhetoric that tries to make people feel stupid because they don't agree with you.

    • With all the economic scandal going on, I wouldn't be surprised if people used their votes against the bailout in the form of not voting for the mainstream Red or Blue options.

I don't normally buy coffee from 7-11, but if they added a cup for "other" I would out of principle alone.

    • I find the percentages interesting.

Ohio(!) has the biggest Obama spread but all of them are at least 60/40. In the 3 McCain states, he leads by 2 or 3 percent.

    • Where's the cups for Nader and McKinney!

This isn't just a two party system... give all parties equal time and promotion or don't give it to anyone.

Can't have Nader and McKinney on a 7eleven cup.......it's not Fair Trade, Union coffee poured into environmentally friendly American made cups. They would be hypocrites if they allowed that. Maybe a cup for Bob Barr though.

    • Eh, won't make me go to 7eleven for a coffee but if it gets people to think about getting to the polls more power to them. Nothing will ever beat all of the 7elevens that converted into Kwik-E-Marts though. That was just brilliant.

      Already afraid. Of the masks.

      BTW...
Last year that holiday was really close to a blood moon, and there was some seriously freaky energy about. Starting about 3 days before. I didn't notice the blood moon, until I went outside for some fresh air on the 28th. Then the world made sense. I think I lived in a pagan hot spot.

    • ahh. Who buys Coffee at a 7-11!? If so, your taste has some issues. This "test" might only adress those who are more likely to go into a 7-11, therefore, that have a Car and then that have a lousy like on Coffee. I see McCain winning there.

Why not starbucks? I bet Obama would win there 80/20

That's because the people who go to Starbucks are young hipster morons who don't have one original thought beyond deciding which side of their hair they should stick up that day.

    • This is so great! Are you kidding me? It's not dumb at all! It's really clever. You can express who you'll vote for by drinking a cup of coffee! Yeah 7-11, this is a much better idea than online polls. Plus, you get a souvenir cup. =)

    • We don't have 7-11s in Houston.

When the fourth largest city isn't giving an opinion...tisk tisk.

I'm sure there are some here somewhere...but I've never seen one in a long while.

If I were to go to one I'd go one day and get red then go the next day and get blue...just because I collect stuff like that.

Anyways this is a clever and interesting way of going about it.

Dallas isn't liked here, so WE DON'T CARE...ha..ha.

We use to have them, just like we use to have a lot of K-Marts and Targets...now just a handful of Targets are left.

Houston is brutal with business...and kind...it all depends.

    • I'm in Chicago and I saw these last night. Scooped a bunch of them (mostly because I'm a college student and barely have anything to my name, much less dinnerware). There were only Obama ones though, even in the 'McCain' cup column. Part of me hopes it's just the store employees assuming Obama would be more popular in his hometown rather than that's all that was left after everyone took McCain/Independent ones...

    • I've been buying my coffee there for the last couple of months, and lately I've had my little blue cup floating in a sea of red every morning at the bus stop. I get some stares and some nasty comments I'm sure, but my iPod screens it all from me...
