Electronic Arts Director of Coroporate Communications told GigaOM, "I can confirm that the Obama campaign has paid for in-game advertising in Burnout," while also noting that they accept ads from "credible political candidates" and that such ads do not reflect the opinion of EA or its employees. As recently as yesterday, Obama is still citing video games in stump speech about underachieving kids.

This is a great idea. It just shows how willing Obama is to reaching to every American, in any way possible. Kudos to the Obama campaign!

It truly is great that video games are being accepted as another entertainment medium equal to film and music, as a lot of people believe VG to be only for kids, but I do agree with a lot of the comments here. A LOT of gamers, especially on the 360, are idiots.

In 2012, look for a candidate to be one of the characters. Perhaps Palin in a hunting game?

I totally like the idea of thinking outside the box - it's exactly where we need to go.
Congrats to Obama / Biden and his campaign staff for this. This is not more of the same ol' sh#t!

Obama really knows how to immerse himself into the youth vote. The more places you see his face, whether in the real or virtual world, the more likely you are to be motivated to vote and feel more comfortable with him.

I love all the Obama haters on this thread bashing this move. They are all just jealous that McCain's camp didn't think of this. I mean, McCain did invent the Blackberry, so I'm surprised he didn't come up with this idea as well...lol.
And this buy wasn't just for the 360 community. It will be widely reported (like it was here) to all of us who don't play online games, and it will make Obama look current, relevant and at the leading edge or things. Which he is. Face it haters...this is brilliant.

If you've played Call of Duty 4 recently, you probably noticed an increase in OBama clans with BAMA or OBMA as clan tags next to their gamertags.

I've only gotten the McCain supporters. One guy I played COD4 with had "OBAMAisaCOMY" as a gamertag. I promptly informed him he spelled "Commie" incorrectly.

its good to see we are finally taking videogames as a serious medium. if people are willing to put advertising dollars into a game, they must respect its audience as a major segment of society. the 18 to 32 vote will most likely decide this election.

A lot of my games, especially the sports ones have in-game ads. Even this baseball games from 2 years ago that I popped in recently, the ad system in and around the stadiums still work and feature ads from today! Just a few weeks ago I saw an ad for the debate on the fence in left field!

Obama deserves a sticker for thinking outside the box. Major kudos to him.
People shouldn't bash him for being creative and trying to reach out to a new fan base. After all, what is one of the most popular pastimes amongst the fan base that Obama is not only targetting, but that actually have the ability to vote?

Burnout players are probably not the voting bloc he should be reaching out to, they'll probably vote against him just to spite him.
Shit, I can scarcely think of any online games that have an intellectually acceptable userbase.
Especially not on the 360, jesus. Someone will probably scream the n-word over and over again in their mics as soon as they see the ad.

You occasionally get some decent people in online games, not typically though and the average drops way down for a 360 game.

As a 360 player (moving to PC gaming soon) I'd have to agree with Saladin. Everyone I meet on xbox live is a subhuman moron. I'm not going to try to be nice or politically correct about it, Xbox live is predominantly inhabited by 12-year olds and mouth-breathing frat boys. Screw 'em, I'm going bac to where nerds like me belong.. computers!

Yeah, Saladin has a point. I play online and at least once a night hear someone blurt out the N-word... And often times it's not even directed at me. It isn't a majority, but it is a lot. Those morons wouldn't vote for Obama if he offered them a cash incentive.
