I am sick of "Muslim" and "Arab" being used as a smear in this campaign. No, Obama isn't Muslim. He is, quite obviously (for the 100th time) Christian. But, perhaps we should all ask ourselves a question. Let's say that a presidential candidate was, in fact, a Muslim. Can someone tell me why that would be a bad thing? Would that disqualify him or her from running for President? Obama's Christian, but does it really matter what he is? If you think being Muslim disqualifies you from running for high office, then let's be very clear about what that means. It means you are a bigot, a racist, and anti-American. Period. After Obama wins, Democrats should be at the forefront of making this case, and being very clear about where we stand as liberals on this question of Muslim-baiting.

Ahhh...hindsight, if only that came before we opened our mouths.
Why is it that anything and practically everything someone says, gets sliced and diced until the words that were spoken are no longer even considered? - 3 years ago

Well, he at least didn't acknowledge that he was an Arab. If you saw it, he shook his head and took the mic from her like he was thinking, "what a stupid woman," but he ruined it by saying that he's a family man. He should have said, "He's half white and half black and is from Hawaii". I think it was a misstep, he didn't think it through and I betcha he kicked himself in the ass for it, but nothing to condemn him over.

It seemed like that Crazy Cat Lady is confused about what "Arab" means. And McPain didn't help her. She doesn't seem to know that Arab is just a term for where you're from.
American Xenophobia is a disgusting part of our self-righteous prejudice. And I wonder if McCain feels any regret/remorse/disgrace for having the racist & prejudice vote behind him.And,... if that lady looked THAT crazy from behind,... you know she's gotta be Insane in the McCain.

if you are calling me crazy cat I know the difference between Arab, Persian, etc and Islam. And the only advice I would ever take from Palin would be how to cook a mooseburger if I ever decided to eat one.

It is sad that Obama had to be defended from "being an arab." It is a glimpse into the worst parts of ethnocentricity. We are not the pinnacle of civilization.

McCain's camp and the Republican party in general have fanned the fires of fear and hate in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks. This is a disturbing tactic in a nation of immigrants. I don't agree with any religious zealot, Christian, Jew or Muslim. - 3 years ago

I grew up in the Cold War era. Was told the Russians were monsters wanting to destroy our very fiber of life. Not to be trusted, more like aliens than people. So in 1978 I went to Russia and guess what the people were just like Americans, trying to survive a daily life, went to their jobs, raised their kids, sang, dance and were friendly. And, not one of them tried to burn me at a stake. Now the government and idiots lost when the Cold War ended found a new group for us to hate. I did not buy it then and I will not buy it now. Nor will I let anyone tell me horrible things about millions of people who happen to be the same race as a few nuts. Should all Americans be judged on the actions of Timothy McVie or George W. Bush. Both are responsible for the murder of thousands of people for their own personal goal? My father once told me start judging people because of their race and they will start judging you.

McShame and Lipstick are actively egging on Bigots, Hate Mongers, and Fear Mongers. When they are called on it McShame makes a point of reprimanding an errant supporter for the camera. Then He can say, "See, I told you we don't tolerate this kind of behavior." McShame and Lipstick's candidacy is a sham and a fraud.

I think that woman who said she was 'scared of Obama because he's an Arab,' has been receiving threats and won't leave her house now.
But, really she's probably just making that all up in her head as well.

D, it boggles the mind! I still hold out hope, however. Perhaps there are more of "us" than "them"!

Isn't this just the most outrageous thing!!! He's not an EHRAB, he's a good Krischan just like you and me!! And we don't have to worry about the good krischans -- except the ones named John. Check out this from http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-cesca/the-republican-war-agains_b_134927.html:
"Odd that we haven't heard from any of these wise men about all of the serial killers, maniacs and assassins who have been named "John," as in "John McCain." For the record, there's John Wilkes Booth, John Hinckley Jr., John Schrank (attempted to kill McCain's hero Teddy Roosevelt), John Wayne Gacy, Paul John Knowles, John Allen Muhammad (DC Sniper terrorist), John Edward Robinson (the Cyber Sex Killer), Gerard John Schaefer (killed 34 women and girls in Florida), John Gotti, John Dillinger and John George Haigh (the UK's 'Acid Bath Murderer')." - 3 years ago

Yes, we have become even more xenophobic (if that is EVEN possible), now that we have a non-lily-white, biracial , exposed to the real world candidate, for President of the United States of America! What are we so afraid of? This irrational fear of anything not "American" (which would be a fear of anything over 232 years old), oops bible, oops, Christianity), has got to be called out for what it is - bigotry and sloth! We are so complacent and so arrogant as a whole, that we have lost our focus and our humanity! Shameful!!

The elderly gentleman thought he was correcting a wrong. People of that generation equate being Arabic with anyone from the middle east. An example of the brilliant judgement in dealing with foreign policy matters we should expect should Gramps be elected.
