Nay, make that a tsunami of hostility. An avalanche of venom. A cataclysm of ... well, you get the idea. People are mad. Good riddance, they say, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Let us proceed, gingerly.
I am not a passive bystander to these events. Buckley is a friend, as are other members of his family, especially Uncle Reid, with whom I have worked for several years. National Review is home to many friends, and its online editor, Kathryn Jean Lopez, kindly subscribes to my column. Like Buckley, I have enjoyed a decent fragging for suggesting that Sarah Palin excuse herself from the Republican ticket.
What gives here?

As much as I'd like to see the demise of the far and radical right, they are and always will be a part of America. The principles of profit over people built this country and those who have profited have roots that cannot be severed.

The GOP is self-destructing...
I'm hoping that the republican party dissolves into the mass of corruption that it is, gaining no more support in future elections than the Natural Law party does now.

this is so refreshing to find some clarity on a group of people that generally have supporters that have become progressively ignorant

As always a great post Pericles!
At this time like no other the cards should be real easy to read.
The entire article lays it out so well--the far right-the well
fed right seem to be eating their young and be it arrogance or pride they seem to not even notice.I have been told recently by some good young church going christian friends who are still undecided voters that they hate the constant pressure they receive from their fellow church members.
They are all registered republicans and consider themselves to be conservatives--yet they have been told a few times that they were betraying their country to question the choice of McCain for president. - 3 years ago

It looks like Buckley did what his gut told him to do instead of supporting things false or insincere.
These days, it takes great courage to let common sense be a guiding force. - 3 years ago

I forever liked WFB. He always seemed to nail it, no matter what the subject. I may not have agreed with him, but I did like his frank way of putting forth his opinion.
It would seem his son has inherited that same independent spirit.
Good for him, standing up for what he thinks is right. - 3 years ago

It would appear that C. Buckley has told the so-called conservative movement 'Good riddance ...so long and don't let the door hit you'!
'Conservative economics' have brought us THREE ruinous Presidencies ---Reagan, Bush Sr. Bush Jr! Reagan doubled the federal bureaucracy, tripled the national debt and presided over a two year long depression ---the worst since Hoover's great depression. Under Reagan ONLY the upper quintile benefited following his tax cut for the increasingly tiny elite of robber barons and stock maniuplators. The middle class began to fall off the ladder. Now --as a result of R. Reagan's incompetent economic policies --the rich have CONTINUED to enrich themselves, often at the public trough. Last time I checked, some ONE PERCENT of the nation owns more than the remaining 90 percent. The trend --which began with Reagan and abated briefly under Clinton --resumed with a vengence under Bush Jr and will continue to impoverish Americans by the millions until the nation --at last --collapses. No economy is productive which benefits ONLY one percent or less of the entire population. .
Reagan blew what may prove to have been the last chance for a world peace when Mikhail Gorbachev put TOTAL NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT on the table at Rekjavik, Reagan blinked, bowing no doubt to the 'wishes' of his NEOCON handlers.
In the meantime, Reagan made terrorism worse. According to FBI stats compiled and published by Brookings, terrorist attacks against US interests were THREE TIMES more numerous under Reagan as under Bill Clinton. Verifiable stats.
It was also under Reagan than Bush Sr was implicated in a child prostitution and pornography ring that was being operated right out of the White House. The Washington Times broke the story which was quickly 'hushed up'. One of those involved in that scandal was Jeff Gannon ---Bush Jr's gay boy toy who, for a short while, impersonated a reporter during Bush Jr's first term.
Bush Sr is famous for the Savings and Loan Scandal and for his idiot son's involvement in the BCCI scandal. The real terrorists and those who finance them were exposed:. It was the partnership of the Bush crime family and Bin Mafouz who funneled millions (if not billions) to Bin Laden and other terrorists throughout the middle east by way of the Saudi Royal family. The Saudi Royals --you may recall --were given a quick get away by Bush Jr within hours of 911.
I would hope that the nation has had enough of 'conservative' BS --especially nauseous since 1980. Conservative economics and politics have very nearly brought the nation ot utter ruin and disaster.
I voted GOP once ...a long time ago....I and will FOREVER regret it.
