High school student in Kentucky faces felony charges for writing a zombie story

"William Poole, an 18-year-old Kentucky high-school student wrote a story about a high-school over-ran by a plague of zombies. Not exactly the most original scenario, but just the sort of thing for a young writer to cut his teeth on. Unfortunately the kid's grandparents found the manuscript and assumed the very worst. The high-schooler was arrested on Tuesday morning and is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center. The local police seem to be treating this work of fiction as if it were some kind of terrorist threat."

    • "what ever happened to the first amendment? "

George W. Bush and his GOP reign of terror happened to the First Amendment!

When I was in high school, I not only wrote Zombie and Twilight Zone-type stories but political thrillers. One of them was a cautionary tale that dealt with a right wing coup d'etat in which a people's republic was replaced by a right wing dictatorship. No one threatened me with detention ---but I never dreamed my story would come true as, in fact, it did in the United States with Bush v Gore.

This nation had best make a one hundred and eighty degree turn ---or wind up on the ash heap. Even Rome, even the Third Reich fell. The US is heading for a big crash.

    • i wonder if his grandparents intended on their grandson being arrested, and since it's an old story it'd be interesting to see how his case turned out.

    • If the "Feds" had supressed evidence that zombies pose a terrorist threat to our national security and this kid unearthed the truth by disguising it as fiction...well then, he must pay!

    • America has officially become the worst place in the world.

Opposing this type of draconian behavior is what once defined you as the land of the free.

Your country is a failure on every level.

      For shame.

You are exactly right on! There is no more "great experiment." The experiment has been shut down.

    • Every police force should have a "Hipster Affairs" division that would review such things before making fools of themselves. Everyone is nervous these days, which is understandable, but for crying out loud!

    • Go! Clark County! Which will officially be known as a town run by dumb Zombie Police Officers (i think we can include the grandparents too) feeding on innocent human beings for their intellectual superiority.

    • The theory of zero tolerance is ruining peoples lives, this is crazy. If this truly was "just a story" the kid wrote I hope his parents sue the pants off the PD and in the process tell the grand parents they are idiots. Not having seen all the evidence I tend to give the kid the benefit of the doubt.

    • It seems as if the zombies ate the brain of the detective investigating this case. Next plot twist, zombie detectives invade high school and arrest student.
