Kucinich calls for probe of bonuses for Wall Street aid recipients

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) has called for a probe into $70 billion worth of pay deals planned for employees of failed banking firms receiving government aid.

Kucinich said Sunday that he was directing his staff to immediately probe Wall Street firms that have received any portion of the $700 billion bailout plan recently passed by Congress, in response to a recent report by The Guardian outlining the firms' dramatic drops in revenue, but not in executive compensation.

That Friday report showed that over $70 billion was to be allocated towards pay deals, including discretionary bonuses, at firms such as Goldman Sachs and Citigroup.

"When Congress placed restrictions on excessive executive pay, it had no intention of permitting business as usual with respect to bonus structures," Kucinich said. "It would add insult to injury to ask taxpayers not only to bailout a firm, but to pay for bonuses as well. The Guardian's report necessitates an immediate inquiry."

    • Hopefully people will remember Kucinich doing this when he runs for president again. He could totally transform this country- and we need it.

    • Kucinich is not part of the alleged two party system. Maybe Obama for eight years to soften the landing to the progressive side then Kucinich to the future of the states for and by the people.

    • We all knew that the bailout was not for the people of the U.S. it was yo allow the treasury to be riped off by the bankers and wall street cronies of GWB and RBC. They saw that the probability of the repubican party retaining power is slipping away, so they came up with a plan to concentrate more for the wealthiest of our society to maintain thier lifestyles. We the people should be outraged by this but as I have been hearing recently the morals of our nation have to be supported and that can't happen under godless democrats. If you beleive this malarcy I have an island to sell. It will be fully formed in five hundred years or so.

    • Kucinich is the man. I've always liked him. He doesn't mince words. I'd love to see him as president but I'm afraid he may be too progressive for the conservatives. I actually met and shook hands with him once while I was waiting to get in to a movie at the Bagdad Theater. In 2004 he was walking down Hawthorne in SE Portland, OR greeting people.

    • I wish he and Ron Paul had each won there parties nominations. Beyond that I wouldn't have cared. I'd already have known that the country was in good hands no matter which way it went. I'm not that confident today.
