Keating law firm donates $50,000 to McCain campaign

Those voting for the first time this year may not have even been alive during the Keating Five scandal, the political corruption case that threatened to end John McCain's political career back in 1989. Much to the chagrin of those Democrats gesticulating wildly at the very silent elephant in the room, the Obama campaign has largely refrained from touching upon the issue, perhaps preferring to leave past associations well alone, for understandable reasons.

But sometimes history throws little reminders into our present path, and this is one of those times. Campaign finance records have revealed that the law firm founded by Charles Keating - before he went to jail for fraud, racketeering, and conspiracy for his activities as chairman of Lincoln Savings and Loans - has made donations totalling over $50,000 to McCain's campaign.

    • "People bringing up Ayers... would you have thought him a terrorist if you weren't introduced to him in that way?"

Great point Sonic... this is especially true since Ayers didn't kill anyone. BTW the term terrorist.. just wondering when did the US start applying the term to Americans? I am thinking Timothy McViegh but who knows might go all the way back to MLK...

Terrorism is not the same as violent protest, if you ask me. Attempting to attack our government buildings for the purpose of derailing an unpopular, anti-American agenda (The Vietnam War) is a bit different than attempting to disrupt our economy and way of life, and strike fear into the hearts of all of us (terrorism's general objectives.)

Remember, the British called the Boston Tea Party an act of terrorism, but America remembers it as patriotic protest.

"Terrorism" is just a political buzz word that basically is an indisputable free pass at gaining the support of the sheeple.

    • What if Ayers did donate to Obama? What is he going to get in return? McCain lobbied to stop the investigation into Keatings bank for two years. Making it possible for him to steal many millions more. Is this what McCain gets in return?

Obama was 8 when those acts were done. He met him after he was good and done with the violence he perpetrated to show his distaste in what was going on. Because violence dictates right, as we all know.

He was magically reformed and his comments about how he should have done worse were widely ignored and then he met Obama.

Speculation suggest his living room was when Obama decided to run for President.

But who knows....Obama rather talk about change than clear up any misunderstandings such as this.

Ayers protested violently against a corrupt regime that was attempting to overthrow a democratically elected leader.

Keating stole billions from the public.

One seems intrinsically American and one does not.

Label them whatever you want it doesn't change who they are and what they really did.

    • Another brilliant decision by the people that brought us the financial meltdown. Who is running running McCain's campaign, tweedle-dum and tweedle-dummer? This is outrageous

    • I think John McCain mispronounced Joe the Plumbers last name during the debate on purpose. I think if he would have said it properly, many people may have put 2 and 2 together and equated him with Charles Keatings Son-in-Law. They have the same last name.

I wouldnt put it past the McCain campaign to plant him with a question, make sure it received coverage, so John McCain could use him during the debate. The question he asked Barack Obama, looked staged when you watch him ask it. Hes planning on buying a business and making $250,000.00 per year?

Charles Keating may have given John McCain more than money? He may have given him a "plant", Joe the Plumber? It seems far too convenient.

    • And all that speculation about where Obama's money is coming from. Come on Johnny...you can do better than this...like going out and robbing a bank.

small little donations from who? Obama won't say. Why not? If it's from individuals then where's the problem....

oooh there is problem if it's from the same company or big person several different times to make it appear to be individual donations.

There is mess in this and it's shared at both ends.

However in the Keating 5 McCain wasn't nearly as dirty as people continue to claim.
