Sarah Palin's state newspaper - Anchorage Daily News - endorses Barack Obama

Image

Citing Obama's thoughtful analysis, wise counsel and cool, steady hand, the Anchorage Daily News, Sarah Palin's state newspaper, has endorsed Barack Obama for president.

The endorsement also notes that, despite Palin's formidable gifts, "few who have worked closely with the governor would argue she is truly ready to assume command of the most important, powerful nation on earth."

    • Even Obama was able to get the Chicago Tribune who had never endorsed a democrat in their over 100 year history to endorse him. They took awhile, but none the less last week they endorsed Barack Obama and gave a similar reason. I guess the Anchorage News only endorsed him because he is black? LOL. They used that on Colin Powell's endorsement, but what about alll these other prominent non black endorsements? Why are they endorsing Obama? Colin Powell uses the same logic these other endorsers use.

    • Theyre going to be so excited when we send her back to Alaska. I'm sure they've missed her while she graced the rest of the country with her campaigning presence.

    • A lovely reply I received after my post: "Could you please be just a little more hyperbolic and unstable please? Some people here might get the idea that you are pro-Obama."

My PUBLIC reply to that is simple: for a unbiased view at voting records go to:

      http://www.votesmart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=9490

and read Obama's voting record for yourself and McCains for that matter.

Also enlighten yourself and go to: www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?pageId=78931
or just go to worldnetdaily.com and look up some of these things that are out there that many don't want you to know about. Unstable - me? That's exactly what many said before 911 - I don't live paranoid or in fear, I live in the truth. I strive to seek out ALL information BEFORE I blindly vote for someone and it would appear people would like to read ONLY what they want to, see only what they want to, hear only what they want to, and that my friend is why we are in the shape we are in today. How about we all get our head out of the sand and quit voting these people into office in the first place. Since the Carter administration we've been reaping the not so great rewards of their policies and we just keep hoping for someone new to come along and fix it. Obama isn't the guy - sorry to tell you. I refuse to ignore his ties to terrorists and religious affiliations. I also got a reply about the 13th amendment .....hello? Should I start stomping my feet about my ancestors who were Sioux Indians and how I've been repressed because of what they went through many generations ago? I'd rather listen to Bill Cosby's advice on that one and quit looking for excuses and get on with life, do what I can to be a better person, educate myself and others, etc. If we keep looking for excuses or handouts we're never going to get out of this spin that we are currently in. Again - wake up America.

    • Why would a news paper state who they're supporting in the election, did they take an office vote? People want the news with objection not their subjective views.

I think you missed the last argument over newspaper endorsements specifically the many endorsements Obama received. Newpapers ALWAYS endorse candidates.

    • LozRiva:

The level of ignorance in LozRiva's comment is amazing. Even in non-election years, every issue of most major newspapers includes something called an opinion page, with editorials (written, as the name suggests, by the paper's editors) and "op-ed" essays written by guest authors with views opposite those on the editorial page -- a fine tradition giving readers different perspectives on the issues of the day. Newspaper endorsements of political candidates date back at least to the founding era of this country.

Also, "objection" does not mean the same thing as "objectivity."

    • How are you all going to justify ignoring the history and the FACTS about Obama once he's in office and turns this country upside down? Why don't you all just go vote for Osama Bin Laden - I'm sure he could sweet talk all of you into a vote too. It's sad that it doesn't seem to matter Obama's history with terrorists groups, attended Trinity United Church of Christ for 20 years, a "black liberation theology" church formerly led by Rev. Jeremiah Wright and governed according to the Black Value System? - 20 YEARS?!, Document forensics expert: Obama "birth certificate" a "horrible forgery" (he was NEVER born here - he was born in Kenyan) Barack Obama continually votes AGAINST any law that proposes making English the official language of the United States.Barack Obama feels that not only should English NOT be the official language, but it is the American citizen's duty to learn, and teach our children, Spanish.Supports extending welfare and Medicaid to immigrants. Supports granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Voted YES on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security. (The UIC records show that Obama and Ayers attended board meetings, retreats and at least one news conference together as the education program got under way. The two continued to attend meetings together during the 1995-2001 operation of the program, records show. (he wasn't 8 years old then) Are we under the influence of another Jim Jones...how about instead of buying into all of his false promises you get your head into a history book and finally see the TRUE light as to this so called messiah. God help us all if this man gets into office.

If Obama turns this country upside-down it will be right side up again because Bush has already turned it upside-down. How much evidence do you really need before you aknowledge the obvious?? No WMDs, lying us into Iraq, 4300 dead US soldiers, the Patriot Act, illegal spying, corruption of Habeus corpus, downgrading of environmental laws, Katrina, signing statements, politization of the Office of the Attorney General, financial catastrope etc. How can you possibly state that someone who isn't even president yet will do terrible things to this country while refusing to critically examine the Manchurian Candidate that currently sqauts in the Whitehouse???

My friend, you are a follower, someone who needs to be told what to think, how to act, what to believe in and who to vote for. I pity you because you are doomed to live in a maze of fear and paranoia that few of your ilk have the intellectual and emotional strength to fight their way out of.

Way to just copy and paste the same comment in a bunch of threads... the whole idea here is to read the article and reply to it or the other comments, not to lay out the same load of crap in as many places you think you can shoehorn it into. That makes you look even dumber than your retarded post, if that is somehow possible.

The black value system? Are you black? How would you know what the black value system is? Are you saying all blacks have the same value system? Well if that's the case, does all whites have the same value system as the trailer trash whites? No, I didnt think so. Here's what's funny John McCain has never been to college, Sarah Palin took five years to get one undergrad degree, her 17 year old is pregnant, her 7 year old give another little boy the finger, and uses spit to slick down the baby's hair, and her other son is a drop out so he goes to the army, her husband didnt go to college and only registered to vote at ag 25...oh don't forget Sarah Palin got knocked up before getting married. Now, try this on for size. Barack and Michelle Obama both graduated head of their classes at Harvard and in grad and undergrad..Barack is #4 in the history of Harvard and hsi wife is #14 in Harvard history, they were married some 6 or so years before having a child, their children are little scholars, and they were members of the same christian based church for years. Let's not foget Obama and his wie have been a professors, lawyers and community organizers. His wife's last position that she is on leave of while she helps her husband in this campaign is a v.p at the university of Chicago, and Obama is currently a US Senator, after serving as a Illinois senator. Sounds to me like the Obamas have the Palins and McCain's beat hands down. Oh, thats right Cinty inherited money which probaly came from her ancestors running slaves many years ago just as McCain's ancestors did. lol

    • While our dear friends do their best to distract us and lead us into the usual cul de sacs let's look at what the endorsement of Senator Obama gave as reasons -

"Gov. Palin's nomination clearly alters the landscape for Alaskans as we survey this race for the presidency -- but it does not overwhelm all other judgment. The election, after all is said and done, is not about Sarah Palin, and our sober view is that her running mate, Sen. John McCain, is the wrong choice for president at this critical time for our nation.

Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand. The same cannot be said of Sen. McCain."

The endorsement ends with the following..

"Yet despite her formidable gifts, few who have worked closely with the governor would argue she is truly ready to assume command of the most important, powerful nation on earth. To step in and juggle the demands of an economic meltdown, two deadly wars and a deteriorating climate crisis would stretch the governor beyond her range. Like picking Sen. McCain for president, putting her one 72-year-old heartbeat from the leadership of the free world is just too risky at this time."

What's interesting is that many us, right and left, have exactly the same concerns with both McCain and Palin.

So do some Alaskans! There's that, and apparently Senator McCain's numbers are showing signs of erosion even in his home state.

    • AveryMoore:

Why don't we ask ourselves, if Ayers is so dangerous, why is he NOW teaching students at a college. Don't you think there would be concern among the students, and they would be scared to go into his classroom? Don't you think that the college would be concerned and not pay him to teach? John McCain did not tell you that about his closeness with G. Liddy.

Obama has said repeatedly that Ayers' radical past (he was involved in a handful of bombings in the 1960s) occurred when Barack was just a child, and he repudiates those actions.

Do you know who Liddy is?? And I quote, In 1998, McCain was at Liddy's home for a fundraiser. Liddy has made contributions totaling $5,000 to the senator's campaigns--including some this year.

November 2007 McCain went on Liddy's radio show. Liddy said McCain was "an old friend," and McCain sounded like one. As quoted McCain said to him, "I'm proud of you, I'm proud of your family," he gushed. "It's always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great."

If you didn't know, Liddy helped plan the Watergate break-in costing Nixon his presidency. Liddy was given a four-year sentence.

But Liddy's actions are what is damaging and scary, far beyond what he did in the Watergate scandal.

      Liddy, said about Vietnam:

"He wanted to bomb the Red River dykes which would have drowned half the country and starved the other half. If that had happened, the Viet Cong could have operated if we had the will-power to do that."
Liddy, even during this recent radio show advised Branch Davidians how to defend themselves from ATF.

Liddy was a fan and supported Adolph Hitler, he said and I quote.

"If the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms insists upon a firefight, give them a firefight. Just remember, they're wearing flak jackets and you're better off shooting for the head."
Liddy, on the impact Adolf Hitler had on him as a child:

When he listened to Hitler on the radio, it "made me feel a strength inside I had never known before," he explains. "Hitler's sheer animal confidence and power of will [entranced me]. He sent an electric current through my body. Read the story for yourself.

    • It is very important to have the endorsement of your hometown newspaper when running for any political office, as it's the editor and publisher that know you best,
This speaks volumes, more than any sound bite could ever say!
The McCain team has done themselves a big dis service by not allowing the American people to get to know Palin better by keeping her away from any in depth interviews.
She only holds an AA in Journalism, this after attending, what; five Jr. Collages over a period of about five years!
That $150,000 outfit is going to cost her allot more come Nov. fourth.

"Twice last weekend, Biden grimly warned at closed-door meetings that a great crisis is coming early in the term of President Obama:

"Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. ... Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said … we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."

A "generated crisis"? By whom? Moscow? Beijing? Teheran? "

Don't know what to make of that. Sounds scary.

He clarified that statement to say that there will be some kind of international crisis to test whoever becomes president (like Kennedy and like Bush) to test the new President. And that he thinks Obama is better prepared than McCain is to handle it. He wasn't specific about where the threat would come from, it was more of a general statement of support for his guy. Does that clear things up for you?

      Look up "Ameros"

Look up the Council on Foreign Relations, whose mission is to de-stabilize the U.S., despite using double-speak to say otherwise. Look up the Bilderberg Group. It makes sense that the mainstream media doesn't pick up the two points belwo on any wire service or print and broadcast because the very same players who want the two things below also own all mainstream media.

      1. The powers that be want to create a new American Union to merge with Canada and Mexico. This will mirror the European Union, the African Union and the soon to come Asian Union.

      2. They want to have one World currency and consolidate power into one world government. Even underground hip hop artists like Ill Bill and Ras Kass rhyme about it in their material.

      This is no joke.

Good luck shedding light on these topics and on yourself.

Like what you say is rememberable!
Bush was tested, and failed the American people miserably, has cost this nation not only a meltdown, but worse yet, the loss of thousands of innocent lives.
Kennedy was tested, and passed it with flying colors during the Cubian Missil Crises.
This nation has allot of healing to be done before the eyes of the rest of the world, and needs to rebuild it's great name and what we stand for.
Obama is a very intelligent man, and has earned his chance to be the next president, he's been tested, for you tell us just how many other people would be able to stand up to the on slot of dirty tricks thrown at them, as he has, and still keep a cool head about himself!
Just pray nothing happens to this fine gentleman, he is the right person for the right time.

Um...Mark you missed the point. Someone who "believes in the freedom of speech" can't also want to ban books. Those two thing are in direct conflict.

And anyone who thinks that NOT getting the endorsement of your hometown newspaper is not important is simply kidding themselves. The McCain campaign has made a lot of hay about how beloved she is in her home state. Yet another thing they were wrong about.
