British Day is 'very much alive' says government

Plans for a day celebrating all things British, similar to America's 4th of July, are still being mulled over and the idea is "very much alive", according to a Ministry of Justice spokesman.

It's thought the idea might be dropped after constitution minister Michael Wills told MPs "there are no plans to introduce a national day at the present time".

Do we really need a day like this?

    • Oh this is funny, to be British is to be a minority beset on all sides by those who are just bloody lucky to be living here. 10 years ago I would have celebrated how rich and vibrant it was to be British. Now I just think the country is segregated and everyone wants a piece of it.

    • From the ITN archive c.1974... a fantastic film educating Americans on the bizarre customs, etiquette and traditions of the British.
