Corporate America's Perverse Love Affair With The GOP

Three articles from the Wall Street Journal show the strange myopia of businesses and business groups when it comes to politics. One article detailed how big retailers (Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Target) are warning employees about the possibility that a Democratic sweep could give unions the upper hand (translation: vote Republican!). A second describes how the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is mounting a huge $35 million campaign—twice the amount it spent in 2006 Congressional races—to support "almost exclusively Republicans in contested Senate races." And Federal Express CEO Fred Smith gave an interview to the editorial page in which he endorsed Sen. John McCain: "Because I agree with him on trade, taxes, energy and health care."

Let's take each in turn...

    • How is this any more perverse than going after the "black percentage", the "Hispanic percentage" or "those Independents?"

There are groups for everyone to be a vampire with and suck the blood out of them and use them and kick them to the curb.

So what the Republicans use corporate advantages.

Democrats use personal advantages by using the average person and playing on their fears to get their votes.

      There's no difference.

      It's all disgusting.

I don't defend anyone of the GOP's actions. I'm not going to. I do like to see more than one side, but I'm not going to state they are better than who wants to replace them. It's not possible. Neither is possible to state Obama is better. He's yet to do anything that makes him better. Speaking better isn't a sign of greatness. Harding proved that.

People shouldn't immortalize anyone. Abraham Lincoln was a good person and a great President but he was far from perfect. He made mistakes and I'm sure if he were alive to ask what mistakes he made he would gladly state them. Making him more than he wasn't isn't helping anyone and would most defiantly make him flip all over in his grave.

    • There is one political party that businesses almost always favor. I have been a working man since 1960. I can tell you why business owners favor republicans. As soon as the republicans get into power, what happens is, when you in an industrial plant and you look down at that locked gate, you see a crowd of people outside of that gate, looking for a job (your job?)

Somehow the money fawcet has been shut off and there are more and more people looking for work. Whenever other political thinkers are in power, the money fawcet is opened up, and when you are in that industrial plant, and you look down at that open gate, you don't see a crowd of people milling around, because everbody has got a job. Some people may even have MORE then one job. Not because their job doesn't pay enough, it's because there are more jobs then there are people. When the republicans have that money fawcet closed off, there are more people looking for jobs then there are jobs.

It may be, only people who have more experience with this jobs situation, have SEEN this happen. But it's what happens and it's because the business owners feel like they have a more motivated work force when there is a crowd of people milling around that plant gate. And, I feel a lot more comfortable whenever those OTHER political thinkers have the power.

But I just can't BELIEVE these people who say the democratic candidate is going to have a harder time getting blue collar votes then the people who shut that money fawcet off whenever they get in power. (and make fewer and fewer jobs) Because THAT, kiddies, is why our economy in in the tank!

    • Corporate America wants more freedom and relaxed regulations for themselves (because they know how to run things), but not for freedom or choice for the general population (that couldn't handle the responsibility).

    • They can only steal the election if we let them. If we vote, report problems IMMEDIATELY to the media and election board, they cannot steal the election this time,. VOTE

    • I predict that America's 'love affair' with both corporate and GOP fascists is coming to an end! --unless they are allowed to steal another election.
