Norton and his directors began shooting footage prior to Obama's declaration of candidacy to become the Democratic Party's 2008 presidential nominee.
Speaking out on the motivation behind the film, Norton said the documentary's aim is not to glorify its subject, but rather to make a 'historical record, and not something to play a role in the election.' Something which he gave substance to by agreeing to keep the lid on the project until after the election had ended.
I think this could be a fascinating document of Obama's journey, but I bet Norton was happier than most when the final results came in, he's got the perfect ending to his documentary...

Someone ( we know who) has hold of a crystal ball. A documentary on B. Obama, from beginning to the final outcome will be a big part for our history future. Yes, great now as we all are living it, but film, from someone who is close to film and the making of it will live on forever. What an inspiration, both on the parts of this skillfully created documentary and subject, I say bravo to the new world. Thanks E.N.

So he's more concerned with a documentary, rather than the leadership of his country?

Norton is one of the coolest guys in the film industry, in my opinion.
He also re-writes most of the movies he does now, likes like not even he could have written it better.

There is another documentary called The Presidential Race, that followed Obama during the campaign. I think it will be very interest making to see how they differ and/or are similar. I look forward to seeing them both chronicle this historic journey.

Actually, the "perfect" ending will depend on how America goes while he's in the White House.

Again and again Edward Norton has exhibited a great ability when it comes to acting through various roles in a number of note-worthy films. I am confident that he possesses the potential for producing high-quality documentaries, as well. Norton’s sheer genius in both realizing and then recording President-elect Barack Obama making history during his entire campaign further attests that he has a lot of creative dexterity. Observing this election unfold, I believe that the end result was glorious for not only for Barack Obama and Mr. Norton’s ending, but American citizens as well. Electing Sen. Obama was a necessary measure for our country to regain its feet, and progress as a nation, during these hard economic times. Our countries first African-American, and President-elect Barack Obama, ran a successful campaign demonstrating to the masses that will-power and a strong mind can take you extremely far in America. His election attests that the notion of an African-American as President in the United States, which historically was deemed unlikely to take place, ACTUALLY can occur. He has regained worldwide respect worldwide, and put hope back in the hearts of Americans, illustrating to us all that, “YES WE CAN” bring change in a positive direction to both the U.S. and the world. Whether or not he had been elected, it has been a historical journey through the scrutiny of politics in the United States. Furthermore, Edward Norton having the mind to capture how powerful and moving this political campaign has been for not only Americans, but on a global scale, justifies his intelligence and ability to consistently leave a lasting impression on our society through film. Keep on keepin’ on Mr. Norton; I’m sure the documentary will be successful.

Honestly I love the idea but I hope it is better executed than Norton's other documentaries. I recently watched his documentary on the environment (something about the death of phytoplankton causing 'dead spots' in the ocean) and it was an absolute mess. Fight Club 2 please!

Wow, looks like he hit the jackpot here, catching Obama before we even heard about him.
It's also good to hear that Norton's aim is "not to glorify [Obama], but rather to make a 'historical record'" - pretty important for a good doc, I feel.

Edward Norton is one of my favorite actors....I have to see the movies he's in because he's just that good. The movie itself can be horrible, but he is almost always brilliant.
But if I were to list important people prior to them being President Obama wouldn't make the list. I don't see historical significance because I was browbeaten for 2 years about it. I still don't. He is no more important than any other President Elect and I refuse to think otherwise.

Not that I think the colour of Obama's skin is of significant importance, well over his policies anyway.
But the first time anything happens it is an historic event. Obama is America's first black president - ergo this is a historic event.
If you don't reconise that I qestion your judgement, and wonder what do you think is historic.
