Gay Marriage Ban Protest

VSiskos
In California, protesters have begun demonstrating against a gay marriage ban that voters approved by a narrow margin on Tuesday. Supporters of same sex marriages have filed three lawsuits asking the Supreme Court to overturn the proposition, arguing that the measure is an illegal constitutional revision. Proposition 8 supporters say the measure is legal and classify the proposition as a limited amendment.

On May 15th the California Supreme Court ruled that a state ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional by a vote of 4 to 3. That ruling also elevated sexual orientation to the constitutional status of race and gender, an elevation that provides strong legal protection from discrimination.

what does the bible have to do with anything here? the church is not the state and vice versa. the bible is not law, we do not live in a land where sharia is practiced.

To the "Amen brother" comment I apologize.
      Amen sister!
To the clown who has just commented I challenge you to count the number of times the name of God is in our constitution. If you refuse this evidence, study our founding fathers. Name one atheist in that group. Sure, their beliefs differed, but they believed there is a God and that the Bible should be our abiding code.

There are hundreds of rules in the bible. Why do you follow the ones that oppress people different from you, yet ignore the bulk of inconvenient biblical law?

To donkeyfly, I ask, " What ?!?!?!? " Where did that come from. I never once mentioned Muslim or Mormon marriage. And the Jew thing? What are you thinking? What about anything I said would make you want to make such a thing up? We are a JUDEO-CHRISTIAN nation.... at least we were.

And marca, I ask you which rules I do not abide by. I agree I'm not perfect, but I try to follow EVERY rule in the Bible. I challenge you to list for me one rule I am against.

The Bible does say that that being Gay is a sin.

The Bible also says that in God's eyes, all sin is the same.

And when asked which of the 10 commandments was the greatest, He replied, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your might, and all your strength."

You say you are not judging, however, supporting a measure that tells other people what to do with your lives does appear to be playing God a bit.

God probably doesn't want us to gamble, but that doesn't mean casinos should be outlawed. I am sure God doesn't approve of a lot of things that will remain legal.

IT IS BOTH NAIVE AND HATEFUL TO CLAIM TO KNOW WHAT GOD'S WILL IS FOR OTHERS AND IN TURN TRY TO ENFORCE IT WITH OUR OWN PERSONAL BELIEFS.

Take the plank out ya' eye before you examine someone else's speck, you know?

You can shove your bible in the unholiest of places because its not my Bible.

For the GREATER GOOD we must let freedom and love ring. Not hate and bigotry. Take a note from your "lord" and learn love and tolerance, not hypocrisy.

Also epic high five to yougottabekiddingme for putting it in the plainest most simple terms. DONT PLAY GOD! She/he doesnt seem to like when you do that. People like to pick and choose what parts of the Bible to believe only to benefit themselves.

mrpibb19 do some research before you make an unfounded statement, while many did not call themselves atheists, almost all were deists and did not believe in the word of the Bible or in a Christian view of God.

      James Madison
"The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries."
-1803 letter objecting use of gov. land for churches

      John Adams
"As I understand the Christian religion, it was, and is, a revelation. But how has it happened that millions of fables, tales, legends, have been blended with both Jewish and Christian revelation that have made them the most bloody religion that ever existed?"
-letter to F.A. Van der Kamp, Dec. 27, 1816

"God is an essence that we know nothing of. Until this awful blasphemy is got rid of, there will never be any liberal science in the world."

"Have you considered that system of holy lies and pious frauds that has raged and triumphed for 1,500 years?"

      Thomas Jefferson
"It is too late in the day for men of sincerity to pretend they believe in the Platonic mysticisms that three are one, and one is three; and yet that the one is not three, and the three are not one. But this constitutes the craft, the power and the profit of the priests."
      - to John Adams, 1803

I could go on but I feel it would just be repetitive at this point. Do these men sound like they believe in the Bible? Yes they believed in a higher power that a God of sorts exists (and by the way the word God is a VERRRRRY loose term). But they certainly did not believe in the God you seem to believe in and they definitely did not believe that the Bible should be our abiding code.

      People read Your Bible's
Marriage is for a Man & Woman
It is not for a Woman and a Woman
or a Man and a Man!
Please Stop this! Have your lives as You Will !
I do not judge you, I have friends that are Gays, But we must all come together for the Greater Good and What you are doing is not for the Greater Good!
This Protest, It is causing chaos and confusion!

"I never once mentioned Muslim or Mormon marriage. And the Jew thing? What are you thinking? What about anything I said would make you want to make such a thing up?"

      really?

      "People read Your Bible's"

it clearly says to have no god before your god in your bible. if you want everyone else to obey the rules of your bible then they would also have denounce their religions.

      "We are a JUDEO-CHRISTIAN nation"

separation of church and state, try another argument.

    • LaLaMF:

Marriage has been many things in many places in this world.

But obviously LaLaMF is living in a bible bubble.

Besides the bible doesn't say that. You infer it from what you read. Jesus said that there would be no marriage in Heaven.

Marriage should be completely in the hands of religions. When people go to become a legal couple it should be a CIVIL UNION for EVERYBODY. The government should get out of the business of forcing religion, especially Christianity, down the throats of everybody in this country. Or is it that Christians are secretly wanting to deep throat everybody with their doctrines of hate?

That seems the more likely explanation.

When is the tribulation going to happen? I really wish we get this show on the road. I can't wait for the persecution to begin and the Religions to become illegal.

LaLaMF, yougottabekiddingme is right; you are playing god; whatever god things about gay marriage and the reciprocations he wants to place upon homosexuals in the afterlife is HIS business and HIS justice, NOT YOURS.
You are trying to stop them from doing something YOU view as a mistake, trying to regulate their choices so that you can save them (Ahem, who else did that? I JUST can’t seem to remember his name?) When we are here to make mistakes and then face judgment, get your nose out of their business.

You are judging your brothers and sisters by your standards, when in reality the only person who has a right to judge at all is God; IF he does, indeed, exist; which not all people believe. Once again saying, if they don’t believe in god, why should they be forced to bend to YOUR beliefs?

I tried arguing this from a religious standpoint so that it would get through your skull, but in truth it all comes down to one thing; you have a duty to separate religion and state.

“But we must all come together for the Greater Good”
The greater good is to stop the hate in this world. People will never stop hating homosexuals until gay marriage is accepted. It’s so similar to the fight of African Americans, their journey to acceptance was thrust into motion the moment they were given freedom, and that put them onto the path of being equal and eventually stopped the hate that people felt for them. It is the same for homosexuals, we need this law passed not only because it’s their right to be married, but because the hatred people feel towards them will slowly be morphed to acceptance and eventually love.

    • Well we've finally elected a black president...and it was only possible because of the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Now why can't everyone realize that many gay and lesbian Americans are fighting for the same thing now that black Americans fought for back then? Equality opportunity.

    • The stench and corruption that is the religious right clings to a life sustained by hatred fear and ignorance. Our nation is still infected by this virus of superstition. We must overcome the intellectual and existential weakness that is Xtianity. We must free the state from religious rot.

Religious people are actually your best friends.

Best friends don't tell you what to want to hear.

They are not pandering to you to get your vote.

It is not about discrimination or hate.

True freedom and liberty come by overcoming enslaving same sex attraction not by creating gay marriages.

I hope one day you can discover this reality

Religious people are the enemy, they are the narrow minded fear mongers behind all of the worlds problems today.

And there are some real doozies here on this website let me tell you. Some of these people on here who keep pushing their anti gay agenda make we want to vomit.

    • I'm glad that this is causing the chaos it should. What we have to remember is that being a minority does not mean we are not equal, that being different does not mean the "norm" is right, and that being hated doesn't mean we cannot continue to love.
