Gordon Brown has urged America to join forces with the EU to build a new global order. Speaking at his annual foreign policy address to the City of London, Brown hailed Barack Obama's "unprecedented" election as a source of "hope" and saw it as an opportunity for fellow world leaders to "seize the moment" and lay the foundations for the "first truly global society."

    • One sunny day in January, 2009 an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he'd been sitting on a park bench.

He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush."
The Marine looked at the man and said, "Sir, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here."

The old man said, "Okay" and walked away.
The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush."

The Marine again told the man, "Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here."

The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.
The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same U.S. Marine, saying "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush".

The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said,

"Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Bush. I've told you already that Mr. Bush is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?"
The old man looked at the Marine and said, "Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it."
The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, "See you tomorrow, Sir."

    • If you all can stand the foul language, I heartily suggest that you go to You Tube and listen to "George Carlin" as he tells about "the American Dream" and "George Carlin Nails It" Georgfe Carlin died recently but his foul language lives on as comedy but he tells the truth like it is. George Carlin the VOICE OF FREEDOM.

    • My plan is coming together...

But, ummm, isn't is the good ole U.S. that has been paying to maintain the bases around the world?

      God help us.

I like to trust people b/c I'm a trustworthy person, but I've been let down before. To use a current analogy from the news, such a huge operation is too big to fail.

One question. How do you expect Christ to reign for 1,000 years when he is only human?

    • Is this headline supposed to be frightening? I see nothing in it for cause to be afraid. I think Brown is stating the obvious when he says;
"My message is that we must be internationalist not protectionist," he said.
Isolationism or protectionism may have been feasible a hundred years ago, but the world and the market place is radically different now. Because of that change, no nation can afford to be a protectionist or isolationist nation. Different nations have become too intrinsically linked to allow any real benefite in severing the link.
I also think when Gordon says.
The time when just a few powers could sit around the table and set the global agenda is over.
I think that statement is profound when you view it from a desire for a more just world.
Every nation affects another in the same way every human affects another or others. Reverberation of policy, action and even intent is a reality.
It's only frightening if it's viewed from a fearful state of mind, perhaps those who refuse to look beyond a purely faith-based ideology or those who embrace conspiracy theories.
I suppose it's understandable and even reasonable to say that this is a "radical" idea, but guess what? America was and still is a radical ideal founded by people perceived to be radicals by the then ruling elite and World Order - the former monarchies of Europe!
And don't forget that Jesus is an intensely radical force, especially when he walked the Earth. No single human had ever challenged so much of the status quo as Jesus did. He was a true radical revolutionary...
All I'm sayhin is that "radical" ideas sholdn't be dimissed so readily.

    • There is a two part video on Google. Type in" You wont see this in the news" Watch both part 1 and part 2. You may call this hogwash or you mmay be open minded and see this as importand to the welfare of ouur constitution. What bothers me is, will we be protected by our constitution. As I understand it we will be controlled by a different set of Laws. Our constitution will be just a historical piece of paper. Our leaders will not be elected. There will be a lot of changes. Is this what Americans want? Will these changes be humantarian and civilized? Think but above all learn the facts. Dont listen to just everyone investigate because this will be the last chance for the freedom as you have been told you have had in the past. The constitution did offer guarantees but Bush showed that Congress doesnt give a damn about your constitutional rights. THINK and LEARN the TRUTH.

    • Obama will do as the world wishes. He's a passivist or so his primaries dictated.

In order to keep world peace via America...he'll have to bend over backwards to do as they say.

I await him actually standing up to someone to show that he can.

    • The words 'new global order' don't sound that appealing to me to be honest.

Isn't it just a badly repackaged 'new world order'?

    • Obviously people are not ready to handle a World Federation yet any more than they can handle a Direct Democracy.

The fears against a "New World Order" is based upon that it would only be a dominating heirarchy with those at the top grabbing the benefits from those at the bottom. At the present level of development those fears are well founded

Until the nations can evolve past ethnocentric concerns of only their own interests any sort of global organization will be doomed to failure as much as the UN has been.

That does not mean that it is inherently a bad idea, only that it is premature.

    • Argon18:

Please, your ignorance will hurt everyone if you keep talking.

The power that will be giving to this new global order is the manipulation of interest rates. That is the rate at which the banks loan funds to each other. This inhibits the actions of market participants coming together to determine a market interest rate.

Because interest rates reflects the price of money to a borrower and thus affects demand for money, this directly affects prices throughout the economy in a manner less pervasive but just as damaging as direct price controls.

    • It actually makes sense and one of the things that seems refreshing about Obama is he seems to get that there's a world out there other than America.

China's had an incredible economic boom. The US and Europe need to work together closely anyway because of that.

Obama is after being re-elected in four years time though, and he got in on promises on fixing the US economy so whether we like it or not, he's going to have to make America his first and foremost priority.

    • Yes Obama, fuflfill the Bush legacy... It's why you were picked by the elitists like the Rockefellers. And don't worry, all those who were so aghast about the "new world order" when Bush talked about it will welcome it with open arms with you... that's what makes all of this hero worship and blind allegiance to be what is really scary.

heres his evidence "new global order" my ass. i would like to believe the masses will not fall for this trap but with what ive seen with the baliouts. 90% of america disproves it yet it passes and no one riots in the streets. "america" is dead. "democracy" is dead. they used to say it behind closed doors. now they say it in the open because they know that the people are sheep now blind nice little sheep.

I also agree that Jan's statement is true. Obama has quite the fanboy base now. Simply because he is a great speaker. Yet he hasn't done anything yet. Tune in January 20th to see how much "change" there will be.

In politics, the best liar wins.

    • New Global Order, New World Order, Global Community, whatever you call it, it has always existed. The good, the bad, and the ugly. There is nothing new here. Problem is, we continue to build walls, not bridges AND divide people by race, religion, and gender. You could say the forces of good and evil are constantly in opposition. Like magnetic poles or even Yin y Yang. As long as our spirit lives in human flesh, we will be manipulated by greed, power, and envy. This is what leads to missile defense shields, the closing of border crossings, and trade tariffs. I am NOT convinced that a Global Community would be for the GOOD of mankind.

    • Good to hear Brown taking charge, after all these years of Blair pandering after Bush.

I wish this 'new global order' would mean an end to uncontrolled capitalism, though I very much doubt it...

    • Brown is doing absolutely the right thing for the UK.

It won't do any of us any good if America does get scared off from international policy-making and relationships in the wake of the economic crisis.

Historically the US would retreat and focus on homeland jobs and getting their own economy back on track.

Today America's economy is our economy, and the rest of the world's economy. We can't afford for America to shirk their responsibility to the economic well-being of the rest of the world.

They need to come out and play.

Initially at least, yes. I think Obama's election might help the US regain much of the respect that has been eroded over the last 8 years. With a renewed stature, he and we could once again do a lot of good internationally. But I think Obama will have plenty to focus on on the home-front to keep him busy for a while.

    • If Obama buys this BS I will be disappointed and shocked. If it is what it looks like we have been offered lipstick on a pig and we better get awake to this ugly sham/ scam for a new world order very very quickly. If Obama tries to sell us this I will never vote again....and I will stop being a proud American. This is real real scarey stuff.

    • whats wrong with a cohesive global society? i mean the UN is great, but the USA doesnt care about it really. maybe we could work as one earth to solve some of the serious problems we have...? like states within the USA, but countries within the earth community.
if the focus was on cooperation, ending hunger, stopping pollution, promoting religious freedom, conserving resources and so on, rather than the fearful oppression of a BUSHCO led 'new world order', we may have sometin. leave the banks out, end military spending and walk together. wow, world peace sounds great :)
