That kind of racism isn't so much out of ignorance as it is out of a perverse effort to regain a disappearing power structure that benefits the perps. The big fine is a good reaction as long as it is enforced, it should be big enough to cripple them, and there should be jail time as well. In any case, the perps and all their friends should know that their crimes will bring them grief.

Ironic that peace activists and disidents are on the "terror" list, but as far as I've heard, white supremacists are not.

This is a sad story. I know the money does nothing to heal the emotional scars of this kid, but maybe his story will serve as an example of the consequences the KKK will face if their hate crimes continue. Perhaps that could slow them down a bit. This is also an example, for those that do not live in an area with KKK presence, that there are still members acting on their beliefs. Scary isn't it?

If you're going to taunt someone with ethnic slurs, at least take the time out to find out what their background is first. Nothing makes you look more foolish than calling a Native American a spick. Well...
