A man has been arrested for breaking into the studios of Birmingham radio station Galaxy 102.2 and managing to put himself on the air swearing for 30 minutes and also according to some reports reading out the phone numbers of some of the DJ's.

The man had to be removed from the radio station by police at 5.30 this morning. It is not known how he managed to bypass security arrangements in the studios on Broad Street in Birmingham.

    • Police said the man had been charged with burglary, damage and on offence of sending by means of the electronic communications network a message of gross offence or indecent nature.

That one about sending by means of the electronic communcations network a message of gross offence or indecent nature sounds like its pushing it a bit. I think that one might get thrown out by a court.

Reading out obscene messages about people and giving out private phone numbers could fall under calling harassment alarm or distress under various other laws.

I am told towards the end of the incident listeners could hear the sound of the police dog being sent in to the studio.

I read elsewhere that questions remain as to how the man was able to get into a building (as an ex Galaxy employee) I can assure you is very secure, then find the studio around the back of the building Even more interestingly manage to enter the central control room area and take the station out of networked programming, head to the studio and go on the air...hmmmm. I'm not so sure the average bloke on the street knows how to do that.

    • i guess early morning truck drivers and milkmen might've heard him? I wouldn't mind the excitement of hearing a radio station 'hijack' halfway through a dreary early morning job. Then again, if the station was already off air, I probably wouldn't have tuned in. Props to him for imagination though, if not for content..

    • Seriously, if you're going to go to all that trouble to hijack a station, why would you just sit there and swear for 30 minutes!? At least come up with something intelligent or controversial or rebellious to say.

    • When I read this I thought; "ah, clever. An aspiring DJ going to great lengths to get his material on air ... will probably end up with a contract or something ..."

      But no!

This guy just wanted to make mischief. Classic.

    • If he used a gun or knife, its the same as if someone got hurt. Using a deadly weapon means one is prepared to kill to get their demands.

    • Swearing for 30 minutes? I guess it was on his list of things to do before he dies or an early Christmas present to self.
