Endangered - The Aussie Bloke

A national survey of 500 Australians by McCrindle Research has found the hard-drinking, straight-talking Aussie male is under threat.

Commissioned by Barons Brewing Co, research suggests theres been a rise in the number of champagne-drinking metrosexuals more interested in hair products than hanging out with mates.

Barons Brewing CEO, Scott Garnett, said "Many single women are crying out that its almost impossible to find a real man," he said. "Were not advocating men become yobbos - far from it - but were losing the ability to laugh at ourselves, and this is a key part of who we are. And guys dont seem to be spending as much time with their friends - either male or female - which is another real concern."

The survey which reveals 75 percent say men are more likely to bring champagne and a cheese plate to a barbecue rather than beer and a tray of raw meat, also shows that only one in four people surveyed think metrosexuals - men who care about feelings, appearance and fashion - are a positive development for the Aussie male.

So is this the end for the remaining Croc Dundees?

Has the modern Aussie male become more shoppabout than walkabout?
