Britain is the first country in the EU to introduce the graphic photo warnings. They appear on packs that have been manufactured since yesterday.

These commericials and ads keep getting better and better but unfortunately, it will not stop most people from smoking. Not many people grasp the fact that they have a nicotine addiction.

its nicotine, its a habit. people do worse things to themselves all the time, it just doesn't happen to be cigarettes yet it is just as fatal.

Very sad.
I never had the urge to smoke anyway. I cost too much and it smelled bad, besides, I'm horribly allergic.

dennis leary puts it perfectly in "no cure for cancer"
smokers know its bad, they don't care. its nicotine, its a habit, its a lifestyle for some, its cool and scene and whatever else sheeple love to do.
stopping is about will power, i smoked heavily for 4 years, one day i said no more, finished the pack i had and i haven't had a cig in a year. yeah its hard, yeah i still fight the urge at the gas station from time to time, but i haven't faltered nor will i.
people who want to smoke will, people who want to quit can, if they don't have the will to do it themselves, there are programs, gum, patches, pills, tons of stuff. telling them and showing them its bad doesn't change anything.
good job trying to guilt someone into living a way they don't want to live by the way...great job rob reiner's of the world. hey down another cholesterol laden cheeseburger, hypocritical bastards.

had i seen this 7 or 8 years ago, i might never had started... or even better, had i seen it as a little kid, i KNOW i would've never started...
tobacco (and alcohol) companies should be required to put the ingredients on the boxes, like everything else we consume...

No matter what people say to you, and what truths you know. The desire to quit smoking, and the will to follow though and never take another puff is an individual decision. I quit smoking after seven years because I started biking and couldn't keep up with myself. If you want to quit, it has to be for yourself, not even for your health. If that makes sense anyways...
I still have an occasional puff, but I don't need to smoke, just sometimes in social situations. - 3 years ago

Photos of people's insides are going to make people go "eww" regardless of how infected/damaged/whatever it looks. Pictorial images may be the way forward, but the ick-factor isn't going to do much good.

You wanna know what made me quit smoking?
A combination of getting cancer at 17 (unrelated to smoking) and looking at pictures of cancerous vs. normal lungs. I'd rather my lungs looked like a nice salmon than a charred, blackened steak. So terrible.
Those who smoke know what they are doing to their bodies, but they like to conveniently forget it. Maybe this will be the little reminder they need to push them towards finally quitting and improving their lives exponentially!

mmm, it only makes me think of the movie "thank you for smoking," where they tried a similar approach and nick naylor basically gave them the reasons it was ridiculous. most people know the risks. will it scare younger smokers? perhaps, but there is no guarantee. certainly i agree that smoking is a bad habit but that's not really the point here. one of the many points the film makes is that for every ban or warning against smoking, you have lobbyists and others who will spin it around to promote their product....it ultimately comes down to political or corporate agendas...and each person's personal value system....shrug

My dad is a doctor and taught me about STD's much the same way... When I was about 11 or so he started talking to me about it... Then, at home, when I would go to the restroom and he would have medical journals open to some nasty images of STD's. I would look to see what it was and read a little about it... NASTY!!! It made an impact FOR SURE!!! Much the same as I think these cartons will on youngsters.

I saw packs with photos on them like this in Singapore this summer. In a 7/11 the whole wall behind the cashier was covered in them. They made you sick. Then I asked the cashier if he smoked: "Of course."

As a nurse, trust me. There is nothing worse than 'Head and Neck Cancers". Now smoking is linked to 15 cancers. when I worked for Hospice, I was shocked at the number of people there who smoked. If the Hospice work did not stop them, nothing would. Seeing parts of peoples faces falling off is real. Nothing photo shopped about it. Just google it and you will fine a lot of cancers of head and neck due to many tobacco products, not just smoking.

Every time I see some smuggled underground footage from PETA of the horrible abuse chickens endure in factory farms I make a vow to NEVER eat chicken again.
That vow lasts all the way up until lunch time when I go to Wendy's and order a #6 Spicy Chicken sandwhich combo.
Addiction (even to Wendy's combo meals) is far, far more powerful than logic.
That's what some of these anti-smoking groups don't seem to be realizing.

I always said I'd give up when the price of 20 fags went above £5. When the price got too much I just started smoking roll ups which are loads cheaper, and then when they put all the horrible warnings over the packets I just started buying more tobacco when I went abroad. Foreign warnings just don't have the same impact...
Sadly, I think it'll take more than some pretty nasty pictures to make me quit.

ignorance is bliss. So many people live their lives in denial. Its so much easier to get thru life that way, never have to think about anything. I'm 28 and smoked for 13 yrs., haven't had one in almost 2 yrs. Seeing what I see at work made me quit. (paramedic for a city fire department)

They had a similar campaign running in Australia, with similar type images on packs and commercials. Until some smart viewers pointed out that these had all been doctored (eg. photoshopped). Even the TV commericals had some serious effects done to make out they were real.. to the untrained eye. After they were busted on this they were either taken off or had to state that the images were representations and not actual cases.
I believe it when I see it.... now where are my smokes.. - 3 years ago

if you have a tv or don't live under a rock you know what smoking does to you. i tried smoking and didn't like it and never picked it up again. i've herd that your first smoke doesn't hook you but if the first one didn't hook you and you know of the dangers why do it again?

Come on these types of images are an outrage and should not be put on billboards. My three year old see this she will have bad dreams. No I have to say this is shocking and shows us the 1% who suffer this kind of trauma because of smoking. I will be writing to government about this it moves beyond limits of proportional advertising.

I don't think it's any worse at all than the nearly nude ladies and the obviously nasty sexual innuendos in commercials these days... it's like with a degree any idiot with a penchant for toilet humor can make millions in advertising... sounds like the perfect job for me! lol jk... but seriously. I'd rather my children see this, which I could explain with no awkwardness, than a half-naked woman mounted atop a seemingly naked man, which would not be fun to explain at all in any way.
