If this was printed on your beer or wine bottle, would you drink less or stop completely? Such warning labels could soon be reality if a proposal by the Government's Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs is put into action. Experts say information about the dangers of drinking aren't doing much to keep us from being so boozy, but knowing how FATTENING alcohol is will have a greater impact. (Clearly, this initiative is targeted more at women and image-conscious young people).
Calorie content warning labels don't sit too well with the drinks industry though. And they made a good point that instead it might just push people to skip meals... that ever-so-ridiculous justification mechanism we use: I could either eat a sausage roll or have a pint.
Do you think this is a good idea? I think simply putting the calories on the bottles is a good idea, but making a comparison will lead to more people drinking on an empty stomach.

I do think this might help, but I also do worry about the increase of younger girls drinking on empty

Oh no... This means I eat/ drink at least 1 6-pack of jam donuts each week. I must cut back….although I don’t know if this new labeling will persuade me too? Perhaps I will just change to sponge cake instead!! Or, not eat before hand... Good point ClareW!

I think this is a good idea, it will stop quite a few people from drinking too much, and I don't think it'll make people drink on an empty stomach.

I'd like there to be calorie intake... but then again I'm the kind of person who likes to read labels.

I doubt putting caloric content on beer labels will have any effect. For the most part, people who go out on a Friday or Saturday night to the bars aren't too worried about how many calories they're going take in. I admit, I could be wrong but I'm just saying that MOST people probably don't think this way.
If you especially ask the majority of college students in the US, they'll offer the simple equation of: numerous libations equals either inebriation or the very real possibility of having sex with a total stranger in a few hours. Caloric intake is not part of the equation....

"the very real possibility of having sex with a total stranger in a few hours"
The average sexual encourter burns roughly 250 calories so there goes about a pint and a half. lol

Here's a nice comparison chart. And suddenly, my beer gut is explained... Stella, my go to pint, is the HIGHEST beer on this list. Damn!! Think of all those Jammy Dodgers I could've been eating! I'm going for wine from here on out (see how that works? I didn't stop, I changed).
Where do you rank? How many sausage rolls do you drink?
