Is this proof positive that America is gun crazy? Why would anyone allow an 8-year old child to use a firearm? Should we trust our fellow citizens with fire arms? Isn't it time some sort of sensible and stringent gun control policy was put into practice?

"We only need to enforce the ones we have and prosecute violators." I agree with this on gun control. The problem with more restrictions is that criminals- you know, the people we DON'T want to have guns- don't LISTEN TO THE LAW ANYWAY. More law won't help that.
This is a crazy story- did anyone catch this tidbit-
"8-year-old Christopher Bizilj had been supervised by a 15-year-old boy who was "knowledgeable about guns"Are you KIDDING ME?

here is my proposed gun control:
You need a license for EVERY gun you own, which to get would involve taking a class by a trained professional and passing a writing and physical test to prove you are competent and safe in its handling. (note: this will create new jobs!)
After passing said test you would still need to pass a background check proving you have no violent crimes charged or convicted. (charged individuals can appeal depending on the background of a case, cops are dicks sometimes) individuals have to also have proof of no dangerous psychological disorders.
and the final implement which I guarantee more than anything will lower gun crime and get them out of the hands of dangerous individuals: Ban gunshows and disallow pawnshops from selling guns.
most gunshows and pawnshops do not check ANYTHING when selling guns and this is the # danger in terms of guns getting into dangerous hands, if this one step was taken it would resolve many issues. - 4 years ago

yeah but it was a small town.
i mean the law isn't really a factor in small towns. people are still driving around with little kids in their laps. not to mention the age factor. i know the town were my mom is from, 20 year olds are hanging around 15-16 year olds if you know what i mean!!!!
the gun issue with kids having them will soon lead to the law that you cant spank your kids. not everyone is ok with people telling them how to raise their kids.

H3ADLINE, Automatic weapons require a class 3 license and children are not allowed to fire them.
The Chief is in jail for a reason. He murdered a child.

Everything should be considered in moderation. It is a human right to pursue what he and his child wants, as long as it does not infringe on other people's liberties.
In this case, the adults were idiots. With proper education this could of been avoided.
Ben Franklin said, “He who would sacrifice liberty for safety deserves neither.”

The fact that people can sell these weapons without any real oversight or safety is appalling. We don't let kids drink alcohol, but we let them shoot automatic pistols...yeah, that makes perfect fucking sense.

No Uni. You are wrong. Americans are not gun crazy. Only a complete idiot would ever let a child play with guns. Especially a loaded gun.
We don't need any more gun policies. We only need to enforce the ones we have and prosecute violators.

This makes me sad for a lot of reasons. One being the boy is dead. Two being how poorly the child was supervised. Three, how people begin asking if we need more gun laws... There is no amount of law or regulation that will fix this, even prevent it from ever happening again. It's an accident, due to poor supervision. It could have happened with a kid and a nail gun, or even a knife, or a lighter. All sorts of stuff kills people, its usually because of HUMAN ERROR not the actual object. I cringe at the thought of all the 'GUnz R BaD' comments that are sure to follow.
