    • The pic of Obama with a cigarette in his mouth looks digitally enhanced. Kinda like when lindsay Lohan showed her kooch to everyone, then later pics showed that she actually had panties on. Im not buying.

    • i don't see the why this is such a big deal.. it's not like no one has ever smoked in there before.. beside tobacco use is an important part of american history.. it was a huge cash crop for the american colonies.. i say, light it up obama.

    • If Obama wants to choke out his brain and lungs and die from filthy tobacco and chemicals then so be it! What was he was measuring the drapes when he realized there were no ashtrays in the white house. Can't Obama come up with something a little more important to focus us on. This guy-sometimes I swear!

    • Who cares if he smokes? Everyone should be allowed a vice. Maybe he likes it and who's to fault him for that. He takes care of himself by working out and his favorite food is arugula so he's obviously eating healthy. People need to stop villainizing smokers. I think he has enough on his plate to worry about let a lone being judged for an occasional cigarette.

    • Wow. He says he quit smoking, but he still smokes!

That's change I can believe in!

It's kind of like how he says he's an environmentalist, but supports "clean" coal, and "safe" nuclear.

Or how he wants to protect American Jobs, but refuses to pull out of NAFTA or the WTO.

Or how he says that he supports the Constitution, but voted to reauthorize the USAPATRIOT act...

Or how he said he'd filibuster the Telecom Immunity bill, and then voted for it.

Yessir! Now that we have OBAMA voting like George W Bush, things are going to be different!

    • What hypocrites people are. How many stories have been posted here about the dangers and health effects of smoking with people claiming that it is bad, how second hand smoke gives you cancer, that tobacco companies have deceived people and still work to hook young people on it, etc. But if it is Obama, just build him a shack in the backyard and let him smoke his heart out because it's OK. Sorry, it isn't OK if you claim to be a role model to children and if you have children. I wonder if those who say this is OK have ever lost a loved one to lung cancer. Anyone? I swear, anything is put on TV to make small talk and make him look good here. But yes, on the one hand it is good to know that the man so many think is a god is just human with flaws. And I don't want smoking in the White House, and it isn't his house to just do as he pleases in. He like all the others before him is only a temporary employee in the peoples' house. Keep it a smoke free zone.

    • I am glad you ask, who give a flying fig what personal habits this soon-to-be president has. This reminds me of previous news media taking out of context and significance the important issues that should be the topic of public debate and such. Let's get back on page and tell whoever is treating this personal business as newsworthy. Let's talk about the bush legacy why don't we. I still have yet to see in any form of notice, the treasonistic answer gwb gave gibson regarding his greatest regret, is not the lives he has taken, (an act of murder) but rather his lie was exposed? That's more important than if Obama does or does not smoke! Let's put Faux tabloid tv off the airwaves.

    • Not the most important issue, obviously, but at least it sets a good example.

I wouldn't blame him if he does take a puff from time to time. I mean, he is going to have to do what is probably the most stressful job ever for (at least) the next four years.

    • I thought he stopped smoking?

I made my roommate stop, and if she does, I'm getting her a new laptop computer for Christmas.

I think Obama should use winning the presidency as his reward for not smoking to make it a win-win situation as a role model, but that's just me.

    • What's the old joke? "Quiting is easy...I do it all the time!" I know from personal experience putting down the pack is a bitch! It's just a silent "friend" that doesn't judge you...it just listens! He did promise Michelle to quit and I believe he has slipped a couple of times since but I have faith he will stop! I have no doubt that if he does slip, he'll take it outside!

    • i agree, c-mon people. trying to judge if he would be a good leader on weather he is smoker or non smoker. grow up. smoking is not about stress its about our free will to do what we please with our bodies! people who don't smoke don't understand whats its like to quit. he doesnt need to worry about what people think of his smoking. guess what...its non of your business. And it does not affect you one bit

    • The fact that he smokes makes him seem more human and less of a fake, lying politician.

However, I don't think a story like this deserves coverage on the news. Ah well, at least it's not about the color of Britney Spear's panties or something...

Obama: Hey, Nick. Gotta smoke on you?
      Secret Security Nick: Always, Sir.
Obama: Thanks. *puff* Ah, yes. Much better.
Nick: May I ask you something, Sir?
      Obama: Sure thing.
Nick: Why don't you just quit?
Obama: What? And give up all this?
      Nick: I meant smoking, Sir.
Obama: I know. I was just trying to change the subject.
Nick: There's always the patch, Sir.
Obama: Nah. I'll just wait until things calm down throughout the world and give up smoking.
Nick: A 4 year plan, Sir?
      Obama: 8. If I'm lucky.

    • i almost can't believe this is news while at the same time I'm still reading it. maybe its great america is so fascinated and optimistic with our president. and it isn't founded in his ineptitude. hopefully the various media outlets and harshly judgemental public will give him a true chance. i don't personally smoke in my own home, but if the worse thing he does is fire up when no one is looking....it will indeed be a breath of fresh air [no pun intended]

    • to make that pic even more perfect , he needs to be holding a bottle of cheap wine , have a 3 day beard and bloodshot eyes , and be wearing a long-ish coat with a few random stains on it .

    • If the guy stands outside and has a smoke break with security guards, maids or cooks, it won't bother me any. People, on their smoke break, discuss interesting things believe it or not.

    • wasn't it Hillary Clinton who imposed the White House's no smoking policy? a tad ironic, given her husband Bill's *ahem* fondness for cigars. although, to be fair, he didn't actually smoke it...

okay, so you read something, and I mean this with all due respect. But we as a people put so much emphasis on what we hear or read that we don't even know the truth from the lie. I mean just because the New York Times wrote that Hillary Clinton was growing deer antlers does that mean it'd be true? [once again still not meaning this disrespectfully, we just don't question anything anymore. We expect people to be honest, but they're human, and we all do lie.] And besides, don't you think what he promises his wife and what he promises the country should stay seperate. He's the President Elect, sure. But before that, he was her husband, and her children's father. That should be a seperate situation.

smoking sucks, i know. But smokers have rights that deserve to be protected as long as they are not infringing on other peoples rights

some of us just like to use chemicals or drugs. Reality can be boring sometimes. I mean have you looked at the back of a twenty dollar bill? Kinda boring. But have you ever looked at the back of a 20$ bill on weed? That's some crazy shit man.

NO, it is NOT his house It is the house of WE THE PEOPLE, he gets to live in it as a guest for at least 4 years or longer if he does a good job. Smoking is an unhealthy bad habit to put forth to his daughters and the staff...it causes up to 15 different types of cancers as of the latest research. AND, everything in the house will stink. No other government building allows it, no hospitals and most corporations so, out back buddy with the staff if any of them smoke.

nice response. Everyone has an opinion here and mine still stands. If you dont like it, dont respond. Parents need to set an example and that one is a bad one. That is why it is now banned in all government buildings.

Okay while their may be no smoking in his house the point of him raising his kids a certain way still has nothing to do with us. We don't dictate our friends relationships with their kids no matter how wrong they actually are. We have no right to tell him how to raise his kids, because sometimes the best examples come from the outcome of the bad decisions. And I can say that from expeirence.
