The problem with the police is not really the police. The problem with the police is when individuals get on the force, who are not fit for the job, and do horrendous things with the power of the badge. When the rest of the police force cover up for them, it sullies the uniform. I say get those individuals out! Turn them in right away. This will help to restore some confidence in the police. (Good for the NY Transit Officer, Kevin Maloney, for coming forward and saying what he saw to the grand jury!) And the NY Police needs to be more careful with whom they allow to be an officer of the law.

I was afraid small minded people would immediately use this to verbally bash gays.
This is an act of rape, a crime which crosses all nationalities, genders, and sexual orientation.
Rape is rarely about sexual gratification, but about power over someone else.
For those of you who are turning this into an opportunity to bash gays, you are just as guilty as the cop.

the screening process for hiring really needs to be changed...obviously. the difference, hopefully, would be a qualified police force rather than a gang of pigs.

How are law enforcement supposed to clean up the streets when internally they are just as unscrupulous?
There should be zero tolerance for law enforcement who abuse their power using physical force.
Many other civil professions have zero tolerance policies in place to protect the citizens, I do not see why law enforcement should be an exception.

the cops here suck.
just having so many doesn't make a difference.
honest cops would though. but we all know that's not gonna happen.
being a police officer doesn't make you above the law. just like being president doesn't make you above the law. - 3 years ago

Then the problem is with the government. The police are usually just people who are trying to do their job. The people who tell them what to do are the one's watching you.

I wish they had gotten him the first time around. This is a humiliating misuse of force.
Officer Kern, a four-year veteran of the Police Department, has been part of another case involving accusations of excessive force during a 2007 arrest of two suspects, but his lawyer said he was cleared of wrongdoing in that case by the Civilian Complaint Review Board, which investigates claims of police misconduct. The city settled lawsuits against Officer Kern related to that allegation, but said there was no indication of wrongdoing by the officer.

Living in a smaller town that has a pretty large 2 year tech program for law enforcement I've met my fair share of Police officer hopefulls. 90% of them have control issues, not to mention that someone can scrape by with a C minus for only 2 years and go get a job "protecting and serving" their community. They should go through an intense psycological assesment before they get hired!

I'm going to go ahead and say that unless you are a trained professional, you have no right to comment on whether or not they have control issues. I'm no professional but I would say you suffer from a pretty bad case of being judgemental and irresponsible.

All of this over the fact that they thought the victim was smoking some weed (and they didn't find any). Talk about overreaction.

God, you are boring. No one is gay bashing. Headlines about police sodomy invite jokes. It's okay to laugh about the news.
