Just one man's opinion...
We can create growith in the market by encouraging farmers. I just can't stop thinking about the Starbucks lawsuit... However, I can see why non-profits like Oxfam pushed just a little too hard. Corporate responsibility is something we've been lacking, and many companies, including Starbucks, are losing business because of it.

Never fear, coffee fiends! I'm going to start my own illegal coffee crop... and secretly smuggle it to you with a cloned, fake UPS truck. It can't fail, right?

I'm not a fan of drinking coffee, but the smell is gorgeous. I love to wake up in the morning to the strong smell of coffee! Its like my alarm clock, i smell it, i know its time to get up!!! I'm not sure it is a crisis however - now if there was a shortage on tea - the world would stop!!!!

This doesn't necessarily mean there will be a shortage. Coffee trees have cycles of fast and slow growths. Brazil is just having a lull but coffee is still thriving in other countries.
Hope so anyway! I couldn't live without my eleven o clock kick. - 3 years ago

Just like tea, red wine, chocolate and sugar, coffee is not a luxury; it is a necessity!

"Coffee shortage? Muy Bien!!!! Plenty of countries can find ways of alternatives in drinking coffee such as tea from rose, green tea and while trees of coffee are young, we can make new sources from other countries who have coffee plants!!!"-JB

Current's Angela Sun and Adam Yamaguchi went to visit the Guatemalan highlands to see what it takes to make some of the world's best coffee, and what it takes to get that rich, brown goodness into your cup.
In other news, I'm more than willing to have a whip round in the office to get some miracle grow to send to Brazil. http://tinyurl.com/62c6d8

We cry when our precious conveniences dwindle?!!? How naive are people who don't know that "natural resources + over-population + greed = nothing lasts forever"?!!? Shortages, high prices and possession battles are inevitable. We have passed (by far) the point of a sustainable planet. So, how angry can we be when Earth can no longer give us what we want?!!?

Really? The lack of a majority of coffee being fair trade has not managed to keep the prices down? That is the real surprise here.

Commodities are what's the problem, any commodity needs too be regulated. Oil has finally come down on price because of Obama's threat of taxing windfall profits throughout his campaign. I think you will find things are already changing with the imminent swearing in. Commodity traders beware!

good, coffee is pointless aside from caffeine, which is a needless unhealthy crutch anyways. I guess all the coffee addicts will have to fall back on their mountain dew addiction

To be honest, looking at how much the coffee shops charge for a cup of joe, they can afford to take the hit...I mean, 3 quid a cup, it costs them what, 5/6p? So starbucks will make a bit less, so what?

Imagine the wider effects of a coffee shortage.
People would get less done at work and economies would come to a stand still. A coffee-free world would not be a nice place to live.
