Death crash man blames Top Gear

A motorist who lost control of his 4x4 in a fatal accident that killed his 85-year-old passenger told police he was following advice he'd seen on Top Gear.

When his vehicle started slipping from side to side while Richard Browne was carrying three bullocks, he tried to accelerate out of it. Bad move.

"I've watched it on Top Gear and they always say put the accelerator down and get out of it, the worst thing you can do is brake - so that's what I did," he told police.

"I tried to accelerate out of it, but it slowly got worse, and then all of a sudden it picked up and the back of the truck was being thrown from side to side. At that point, I had my foot on the accelerator, there was nothing more I could do, and all I remember is it just going."

His passenger, 85-year-old farmer Bill Tucker suffered severe injuries and died soon after the incident.

    • The worst thing you can do is break HARD. You pump or press soft on the break to get out of any sliding. That's something that anyone should know no matter what Top Gear says. Apart of me feels this lawsuit is ridiculous because you should know the rules of the road. But the question remains, are the folks over at Top Gear considered experts?
