Would you spontaneously combust without it?

Internet porn. Would days without it make you spontaneously combust?

Raise the issue of the pornification of the culture and its devotees will come to gun you down. Don't mess with their porn. It's an addiction the same as drugs, gambling etc...

Last week a conference on pornography at Princeton University and invited scholars from a variety of fields to contribute. The statistics are mind-numbing. Pamela Paul, author of "Pornified," reported that "Americans rent upwards of 800 million pornographic videos and DVDs per year. Men look at pornography online more than they look at any other subject. And 66 percent of 18-34 year old men visit a pornographic site every month."

They are not, Paul and others explained, looking at Playboy magazine-like images of naked women. Instead, they are descending into darker and darker realms where sadism, fetishes, and every imaginable oddity are proffered. Sex and violence are offered together. Women are presented in a degraded - not to say disgusting - fashion.

The men (and they are overwhelmingly men) who become hooked on this bilge are often miserable about it. They know that it affects their capacity to love and be loved by real women. As Doidge explained, "Pornographers promise healthy pleasure and a release from sexual tension, but what they often deliver is an addiction, and an eventual decrease in pleasure. Paradoxically, the male patients I worked with often craved pornography but didn't like it."

Hugh Hefner, the godfather of mainstream porn, apparently does not have normal sex with his many girlfriends. Despite the presence of up to seven comely young women in his bed at a time, he uses porn for sexual satisfaction. Think about that.

Relationships are crashing, women are suffering in silence, and men and boys are becoming entrapped by it.

Tangled in Internet porn to the point you "need" it? Has Internet porn changed the way you view women/men or sex? Is there moderation in using Internet porn?

    • I actually think that's sort of one of the biggest problems with porn. It shows all of these completely outlandish situations (2,3 or so men inside one woman, etc.) and then shows the woman "enjoying" it.

Now, I don't know a single woman who would enjoy that. It would be EXTREMELY painful...What's your opinion on porn portraying something that would be extremely physically hurtful to a woman (in general, there are always a few exceptions) and making it seem erotic and sexy? I can't imagine anything LESS sexy than watching people be physically hurt during sex. Why do you think that's seen as sexy by a lot of men?

Could this be part of the study that shows:

    • But what about the poster above...

"im not gonna like if you watch porn and then wanna try anal your gonna try with your girlfriend first. and if she says no your gonna find that boring as shit right. so then you are gonna a) beat your meat to internet anal or b) your gonna find someone to try anal with. and if either of these activities take place when your still with your gf that relationship turns pretty shaky..lol only if she still doesnt wanna try it."

What was the cause for the obsession with the Anal that it's come to destroy a good and lasting relationship? Was that watching internet porn and then not respecting the wishes of your partner when she was not comfortable with her back door being violated?

Was that obsession- gift via i-porn was so great that you would dump her for anal sex? And do you just go thru life to find sexual partners that will quell your lust as it gets changed by i-porn (see study above)?

It just seems so damaging to everyone involved.

    • I can agree with dabne that porn could be compared to something like alcohol, but I have to disagree that either are necessarily destructive.

Most people who drink alcohol drink a little and it doesn’t do anything to them long term and they don't need to drink it. And some people drink a little too much booze sometimes on the weekends. And then there is also that smaller percentage of the group that partakes in their release of choice far too much. And then they have problems in life, and problems controlling themselves with their vice.

Now I agree that porn can hurt some people, but if they get so into porn why do we blame porn just because it is the outlet of their problems. Most people who become alcoholics have depression issues to begin with, so if they are looking at porn possibly they have some similar issues.

I don't think in and of itself porn is destructive. Yes it can cause problems with certain people no doubt, but the general population of porn watchers are probably watching it out of boredom.

Some women may also see porn as degrading, but others may see it as liberating, I do think that how a person sees porn comes down to their preconceived notions of the medium.

    • Porn is destructive. It's no different than alcohol, most people are just in denial about the problems associated with it, because well, they're addicted.

    • I would like to say 2 things:

First, as much as porn might have a detrimental effect upon certain aspects of society (which I agree that it does), it certainly does prevent a whole lot of unwanted pregnancies, because sex with a condom doesn't feel as great as without. My dad always taught me to watch porn, and ZING! I haven't gotten anybody pregnant yet.

Secondly, as much as it is fulfilling and desireable to have a normal male/ female relationship, the world is kind of f*cked nowadays and many women have incredibly high expectations of the males they meet. Or, for lack of a better way of describing it, you could be a great guy, and a lot of women just won't do you. I know it sounds crude, but men think about sex a WHOLE lot, and women should have realized that about a couple thousand years ago. I'm not saying that women should put out on the spot, but does it really have to be such an incredible song and dance just to do something that should be natural anyway? C'mon ladies, you think about it to, and don't think that saying you don't will convince me very much. You're just better at hiding it.

    • subjective is the main word here...

First off, there are many women with fetishes and dark fantasies as well. Its not just men.

Speaking of which, where do you think these porn fantasies came from? the porn fairy? NO! people already had these fantasies and fetishes, and then made videos about them. Sometimes porn can be a way to let the average person know that they are not the only ones who like what they like, and they do not need to feel bad, guilty or dirty for having certain sexual fantasies. If people didn't have these fetishes and fantasies to begin with, then there would be no market for the porn.

Porn is not a bad thing. It is all 100% Consensual and regulated. The actors choose which porns they want to be in and which they don't, just like people choose which activities they want to participate in or not in a sexual manner.

Lastly, to the comment about porn ruining relationships....that is BS....if your not being sexually please by your significant other, that is a problem, and maybe your not as compatible as you thought.

p.s. - marijuana does not cause schizophrenia you jack ass! Do some research!

    • Words like "porn" and "degradation" are pretty subjective.

The subjectiveness of the experience makes it hard (hee hee!) to really measure any of this stuff.

Is being tied up "degrading"? Is there no instance wherein it could be "good" for both partners?

Is reverse cowgirl a "porn star" position that is unreasonable to ask non-porn stars to do?

What positions are approved as "normal" and which are "abnormal & degrading?"

Is a threesome "abnormal and degrading"? Who says? Who decides?

Is enjoying watching other consenting adults have intercourse normal or abnormal? Is deriving enjoyment FROM being watched by others normal or abnormal? Who decides? Do we let the Amish set the standards? No? What about the porn stars themselves....should they and they alone personally determine what is "normal"?

      Its all so subjective!

Best to let each consenting adult decide for themselves what normal is....and then we'll watch them from high powered binoculars and decide for ourselves if THEY are normal (and make a note of it in our journal).

The study above is about the aftermath of the brain and ability to enjoy sex, and enjoy porn after being exposed to it, for different lengths of time.

Porn actually changes something in your brain. Causes you to think differently about sexual content. It's a very interesting subject.

    • porn is really the same as marajuna, most people can smoke it with out sufering addiction or mental condtions but some people can become skitzophrenic (sorry about spelling) after one drag. it's the same with porn.

    • I might have to agree a bit with arcticspirit. Porn can tend to create unreasonable expectations for women when it comes to sex. Guys might want women to do certain sex acts that they might not be willing to do. It can come to the point where guys don't even get turned on to their girlfriends/wives because they consider them boring.

But then again, porn can also be a way for couples to learn new things perhaps. And what is considered sexual depravity and outright wrongness by one couple can be considered sexy by another.

Looks like the study is right on point. According to your comments.
Are magazines, etc. that men used in the past, not filling the need?
Also if you have a girlfriend/boyfriend, she doesn't discharge your sexual energy?

      The study says this:
They are not, Paul and others explained, looking at Playboy magazine-like images of naked women. Do you know people that have had this happen?

    • Porn drives technology: First VHS and beta home video, and now the internet.

Clearly men are wired to respond to certain visual cues. However, the sky is not falling. Porn is not a health hazard.

I would surmise the more religious (repressed) an individual is the more likely they are to become "entrapped" or addicted.

In the end, we are curious animals. We want to see what and how other people do stuff. The fact that religion has enshrined sexuality in taboo only contributes to the production of, and fascination with, porn.

I don't think religion has anything to do with the male desire for ... uh.. tail. Tail in action, tail this way, that way, blond tail, or blond tail with some brunette tail, Asian tail.. you get the picture.

No religion in that. And a guy that goes to church has disengaged his "God" chip by then.

Nah, porn will just change from something online to maybe a type of bar like a strip club but more.

ROFL. Spoken like a male who spazzed at the word PORN and his IQ went down with his blood flow, until he couldn't read much less a post anything that made sense.

I was talking about a guy that was just messed up. It was freaking sad. He wasn't with me, he was with one of my sisters, and she kicked him to the curb so fast he didn't know what hit him.

No one want's to date a perv. We want men, lovers, passion, maybe love itself, but no means no. And people do have boundaries.
