If president does it during wartime, it's legal, says Cheney.

All of President Bush's actions during his years as a wartime leader were done with full legal authority, Vice President Dick Cheney said on Fox News Sunday.
Asked by Chris Wallace if it's legal when the president makes a decision to help the country when it's fighting a war, Cheney said, "As a general proposition, I'd say yes."
"You need to be more specific than that, but clearly when you take the oath to support, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic, there's no question about what your responsibilities are in that regard," Cheney said.

I don't know what list you're talking about. But I'm talking about in average he is ranked higher. Top 20.
And the reason history gets to dictate is because people are using their emotions and not fact to judge Bush. it's not worth listening to people on how good or not he was....because they are being far too emotional to have an opinion that will stand the test of time.

The best parrallel for Bush's presidency has to be Ulysses S. Grant's. Both are reconstruction presidents. One was a full blown alcoholic, and the other a recovering alcoholic. Hooray!

On the lunatic fringe of legal. And often course Cheney should say something so self-serving. He and his good ole boys have gotten richer from this administration. Why disagree with greed, correct? ENOUGH of this administration. Believe me, the American people know the truth and have had ENOUGH of this unjustified spending and greed. Cheney could care less about the struggling thousands of USA citizens that can't put food on their tables to feed their children or find a job. He is to busy lining his pockets with money. Something very difficult for politics in Washington DC to understand or be concerned about. IF they cared they would not have gotten in such an illegal economic crisis.

Construing the facts ( and making shit up )
War was never declared on Iraq or Afghanistan - by Congress. Their wishy-washy behavior continues to be used as 'justication'. Note, for instance, permanent bases were deliberately excluded from funding - but are there anyway. Dems can't use the noise Repugs are responsible for everything when budgets enabling miscalled Defence to invade other countries are passed.
How can this happen ? Well, it's been happening for a long time. Bush I kept talking about a New World Order'. Beats me how it can be just a theory that's the case when the Executive is continually allowed to do what it wants - including illegal acts - without impeachment. - 4 years ago

Bush and Cheney make all americans look incredibly weak and hypocritical.
Now before you jingoistic, slogan loving flag wavers jump up to chant USA USA until I shut up, hear me out.
I'm not saying you are bad people.
I'm saying that not only did you allow some (and continue to allow some) really evil corrupt shit to happen in the last few years but you are also in the process of allowing the architects of this corruption to get off without even a simple reprimand.
How's the B.W. Bush Library coming along?

One day people will not be so grumpy towards people. Just because Hitler was in charge o Germany didn't make for stupid Germans. If you don't like the leader...then don't like the leader. It's unnecessary to bring in who is under the leader as if they control the leader. Everyone has to blame someone for something that goes wrong instead of who is at fault.

Yeal that's one of my main angers: That they insulted the intelligence of the American people. They think that the people and their institutions are too dumb to see what they were doing. How arrogant can two crooks be?

I think the fact that they used a forged document and fixed facts should make that a moot point, even if it were true. No President of the United States of America should be able to take our children to a war of choice, then claim torture and other illegal activities legal. It's an "Assault on Reason".

Really! One of the first rules of carrying a loaded gun is to keep it pointed at the ground. Even an 11 yr. old can do that. Evidently this is just another rule that Cheney thinks doesn't apply to him.

I don't trust his judgement nor his justifications. Being president does NOT make one exempt nor does it give one free reign. They lied, falsified, and then acted as if they did nothing wrong. They put the Patriot Act into effect, and I don't think they should be exempt from that either. We the people have a right to know, and we should be sure that is understood regardless of political status.

that's exactly the kind of thing that Richard Nixon said once upon a time. and then, as now, completely shocks the American people. the law is the law, and nobody , especially not the president, is above it. the oath of office is to swear to uphold the constitution, not to be above its rules.

Bush and Cheney declared the actions of the Presidential office to be beyond the scrutiny of the Justice and Congressional Departments. They blazingly ignored the protections set forth by the separation of powers provided by the framers of the Constitution. Equally troubling was that Congress was sitting by motionless while this was happening. The people deserve and should demand an explanation from their Congressman for their paralyzation which allowed Bush and Cheney to run rampant over the division of our Governmental structure.

"I don't remeber Congress declaring war on Iraq. Exactly how far those "special" war powers reach is the question."
Bush declared war against Al Qaeda and other groups that were recognized as terrorists. He said it himself and best when he stated that the 'War on Terror' would be without end until all the Terrorists are brought to justice.
Unfortunately, as a result of declaring war on Afghanistan and Iraq under the umbrella of the War on Terror label, Bush was granted emergency power as is the rule when the country is in a time of war.
For Afghanistan:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/september/12/newsid_2515000/251...For Iraq:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/2318785.stmSince we are against an enemy without specific borders or national identity, these powers have remained in effect.
And the Congress, both Democratic and Republican controlled, have failed utterly in using their constitutional authority to maintain a balance of power within our government.
His emergency powers should have been stripped before Iraq at least, and immediately upon his admission of going to war with faulty and forged intelligence at worst. Hopefully Obama will rescind some of this power back to the tri-fold system that Bush and Cheney have fought so hard to undermine and over-rule, while constantly touting their solemn goal of not only keeping it here at home, but forcing it on other nations.

Hahaha....so did I think that.
I think it's an interesting point to make. Someone has to be above the law to make sure things go by the law. Because I don't think any leader in history has ever been guided by the same laws as their citizens followed.
